Healing After A Medically Advised Abortion with Jenny Foster

We’re excited to introduce today’s guest to you! With twenty-four years in human resources and corporate employee benefits, Jenny Smith served as an associate faculty member for the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, for whom she presented nationally. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of California, Davis, where she remains active in her Phi Beta Kappa alumni chapter.

In 2018, she co-authored a technical human resource textbook, but in 2021, God called Jenny to the new adventure of publishing a memoir called Natty’s Pond. Obedient to write this raw and honest story of redemption after a medically advised abortion, she experienced deep healing during the process through her savior, Jesus Christ.

Little did she know, the Lord would expand her calling to include starting an abortion healing ministry in Texas called LovedMuch. Based on Luke 7:47, she and ministry partner Melissa Carney are helping women find freedom from silence and shame related to past abortion trauma.

We know this episode will bring hope and healing to others who have walked a similar path.

BonnieRuth is a pastor, speaker, and podcaster. She has been married to her husband, Jason, for 22 years. The couple’s story has been marked with the pain and disappointment of infertility and multiple miscarriages. Due to continued health issues, she underwent a hysterectomy in 2020, carving an unplanned path of childlessness for her and Jason. Despite the hurt and trials, this experience has birthed within her a passion to be a voice and advocate of hope for those who have walked a similar path.

Together, Jason and BonnieRuth are the founders of an organization called "Legacy Place" - a ministry dedicated to supporting couples as they navigate the many layers and difficulties of infertility, miscarriage, and childlessness. At their core, they aim to see couples find hope and joy alongside each other as they redefine their legacy. They offer one-day events, one-on-one mentorship, and will soon have cabins on their 48 acres in Bonham, TX, for couples to come and stay to rest, reconnect, and refocus.

Enduring Faith: Vanessa’s Story of Hope Amidst Twin Pregnancy Loss

Today, we invite you to meet Vanessa Grant. Vanessa is a wife and mother of two. For the first time publicly, she shares her story with us of faith and hope amidst the pain of loss.

At Vanessa’s 10 week appointment in her second pregnancy, the ultrasound revealed that she was carrying twins. As the doctor assessed the ultrasound, Vanessa could sense that something was off. Her doctor informed her that she was carrying monoamniotic twins, meaning they were identical, and sharing the same amniotic sac & placenta.

Monoamniotic Twins, or MoMo Twins, are extremely rare, making up less than 1% of all births in the United States. This meant that Vanessa and her babies would need to be monitored closely. It became difficult to find a doctor that was comfortable treating her due to the rarity of this condition.

This was only the beginning of what would be a long and rocky road. Over the next 8 weeks, Vanessa and her husband would face challenging decisions that no parents should ever face. At 18 weeks, she received the devastating news that she had lost both of her babies and would have to deliver them.

Throughout her journey, Vanessa remained steadfast in her faith and leaned on God for strength. She shares with us today how she found hope in the most difficult time of her life. Vanessa’s story is powerful and inspiring, and we are honored to share it with you today.

Today’s guest, Lisa Robertson is sharing her beautiful redemption story with us. Lisa lives in Ohio with her husband, biological daughter, and 3 adopted sons. She is the Executive Director of Hope Bridge, and organization that aids single moms, foster care & adoption, and aging out youth.

It’s apparent to see how God was preparing Lisa throughout her journey to step into her role at Hope Bridge. After getting pregnant early in her marriage and ending up having an emergency hysterectomy just days after giving birth to her daughter, the life Lisa thought she would have now seemed impossible. During recovery, she was faced with the reality that she may never be able to give her husband a son.

As Lisa shares about her journey through IVF, foster care, and adoption, you will see her beautiful redemption story unfold. Sometimes motherhood, and even our lives, end up looking differently than we had expected.. but in our obedience to God’s calling on our life, He is faithful to work all things out for our good.

Bringing Hope to Loss Moms with Rachel Lohman

Discovering hope and purpose after pregnancy loss looks different for everyone.

For today's guest, it looked like creating polymer clay earrings. 6 years ago, Rachel Lohman suffered a pregnancy loss. Like many of us, this obviously wasn’t what she had anticipated the beginning of her motherhood journey to look like.

On the road to healing, Rachel started making polymer clay earrings. She was just looking for a creative outlet, but when she shared photos of her new hobby, friends quickly took an interest. Her outlet transitioned into a business, and she now uses her platform to highlight other loss moms’ stories.

Rachel & her husband have since had a daughter, and her first book Miscarried Hope - Journeying with Jesus Through Pregnancy & Infant Loss, releases on August 29, 2023. She hopes that her book will help other loss moms and be the resource she was looking for and craving after her miscarriage.

God Has the Final Word: Dr. Katrina’s Story

Welcome back to the Purpose Beyond Motherhood podcast. Today on the show, we are so excited to have Dr. Katrina Gallagher with us. Dr. Katrina has an incredible testimony about how God has the final word.

As a teen, young Katrina was not having regular menstrual cycles. Her doctor put her on supplemental hormones to chemically induce her period at 19. As time went on, she began chiropractic school and learned about the disruption those supplemental hormones cause to natural hormone production.

6 years into taking hormones, she made the decision to stop. 3 years went on, and she was still not having a natural cycle. At this time, Dr. Katrina immersed herself in church and started seeking the Lord in a deeper, more intentional way. She began to notice that many of her chiropractic patients were seeing breakthroughs in their fertility journey.

Dr. Katrina’s husband, Corey is also a chiropractor, so she decided to start getting adjusted on a regular basis, along with eating a clean diet of foods that supported hormone production. In seeking the Lord, she began hearing ‘by His stripes I am healed’. She knew that God was working on her body, and hope was being planted in her heart.

Listen today to hear Dr. Katrina’s story of how that hope grew and what seemed impossible in the natural became reality through God’s grace. Dr. Katrina now owns a chiropractic & nutrition center for women and children, and is helping thousands experience extraordinary lives.

He designed men to be hunters, warriors, & kings and women to be collectors, connectors, & queens. The enemy is constantly at work to emasculate men. He wants to blur the line between male & female and eradicate the roles God has created.

Nothing is Wasted

The definition of refined is ‘with impurities or unwanted elements having been removed by processing. Purified, treated, developed, and proved.’

In Proverbs 17:3, the Passion Translation says ‘In the same way that gold and silver are purified by fire. The Lord purifies your heart by the tests and the trials of life.’ Friends, what refining is God trying to do in your life today? Going through refinement isn’t easy, but with God, nothing is wasted. He will carry you through every trial, and bring you out better than before!

Assume The Best

Assuming the best isn’t always easy.

Sometimes people have the best intentions, but what they say doesn’t come across how they intended. They were trying to help or to relate, but instead, it feels a little like salt in the wound. In today’s show, we dive deeper into how to assume the best even when words hurt and people’s motives seem strange. Proverbs 21:2 says ‘All man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.’ Dear Friend, God knows their motive even when we misinterpret it. Let’s allow the Spirit to guide our hearts and show them grace.

We pray that this episode encourages you to choose grace and extend love to others(even when it’s hard)!

Forgiveness Can Be a Challenge

In a world full of differing opinions and ever-changing cultures, it’s nearly impossible to walk through this life unscathed. At some point, whether intentionally or not, we will hurt others and others will hurt us.

But where do we go once the hurt takes place? Do we press on as if nothing has happened, or do we choose forgiveness?

Today on the show we are diving into the importance of choosing forgiveness. This applies to forgiving others and also choosing to forgive ourselves when we fall short.

She empathizes with other women who are experiencing loss and the grief that follows. Her book shares her story and the stories of other moms who also lost their babies. Heather emphasizes that grief is a process and although it becomes softer overtime, it never completely goes away. Her babies are a part of her and reflect the light of Jesus that she offers others. She wants others to know that joy will come in the morning and that one day those grieving will hold their babies on that side of Heaven.

Janie Burkett was born in Texas but raised in Colorado. Her background is in commercial real estate and network marketing. She struggled with infertility for more than a decade when she got pregnant with triplets in 2016. She, unfortunately, lost Baby C in the first trimester and ended up delivering the surviving 2 babies at only 28 weeks gestation. After just 2 weeks of life, her eldest twin, Bryce Joelle, caught an infection and passed away leaving Janie to grieve her firstborn child while being the caretaker for her surviving baby through 2 months of NICU stay. Throughout this dark time in their lives, God was more than faithful to the Burketts and used this tragedy to start a new business in restaurants called The Biscuit Bar. They now have 5 restaurants and 3 living babies. And Janie has since learned she is no longer infertile! (His name is Byron Jacob :)) Her children are Bryce Joelle (deceased), Blake Danielle (4), Banner Joel (2), and Byron Jacob (1).
