Kristy Ashley is an Adoption Recruiter based in Binghamton, NY, with nearly 22 years of dedicated service at The Children’s Home. She holds an associate degree in Early Childhood Education and has spent her career working with children of all ages and backgrounds.

Throughout her tenure, Kristy has taken on a wide range of roles, including direct care provider, supervisor, and director of an abuse and neglect shelter, which she managed for almost a decade. In her current position, she focuses on helping children in foster care find permanency through adoption — a mission she carries out with compassion and persistence.

Outside of her professional work, Kristy is a proud mother of two teenage boys and enjoys cheering them on at football and baseball games. Known for her commitment and resilience, she continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families in her community.

For over 20 years, Amity has run a variety of businesses, from designing handbags to making and manufacturing gourmet chocolates, which has given her the knowledge and experience to help others start and run their own businesses. Now, as a trained therapist, equine-assisted psychotherapist, and Lifebook facilitator, she is focused on empowering other mental and behavioral health professionals to serve their clients without burning themselves out by becoming what she calls “therapreneurs.”

She does this through her professional development company Clinical Career Collective (C3) and her Do This First 7-Day Bootcamp by not only teaching therapreneurs how to run their own businesses, but also how to embrace new, emerging technology in this post-pandemic world so they can better help the people they serve.

Amity hosted the virtual event Virtually Unlimited… The Healing Entrepreneurship Summit (with Mike Michalowicz as the keynote speaker) where she and other professionals spoke about the advantages of adapting new technologies for a modern mental health practice.

A lover of travel, Amity splits her time between Denver, Colorado and San Diego, California with her husband, two kids, two horses, and their English Shepherd, Beau.

Teddy Nguyen is a Texas-based social worker and Financial Coach. He brought his experience working with addiction recovery, homelessness, mental health, and child welfare into the personal finance world. He sees an incredible amount of pessimism when it comes to personal money management, and his goal is to bring hope and optimism to people! He is living proof that you can do work you love AND be content with the lifestyle that fits within that income. It’s no secret that social workers aren’t “rich”, but we can still create rich lives for ourselves when we understand our money, our behaviors, and ourselves.

He received his LBSW in May 2022 and is on track to complete his MSW in May 2025. Hiss full time social work role is helping teenagers and young adults transition out of foster care and into adulthood. He gets to help them dream of a future they can be excited for and outline the steps to get there, very similar to his coaching practice!

She took an after school job completing psychometric assessments which led her to her true passion, helping clients improve their brain function and health. She now works for Neuropsychological Services of Westchester as a cognitive rehabilitation specialist and licensed master social worker. Using a unique approach of cognitive rehabilitation and psychotherapy, she supports her clients through the process of remediating their cognitive skills after surviving a Traumatic Brain Injury. She hopes that all clients reach their personal goals and become the person they want to be.

Her award-winning memoir, Twice a Daughter: A Search for Identity, Family, and Belonging, released in May 2021. Her work has appeared in multiple journals, anthologies, and online sites, such as the Story Circle Network Journal, Brevity Nonfiction Blog, and Severance Magazine. Her latest book, a collection of essays titled Belonging Matters: Conversations on Adoption, Family, and Kinship released in November 2023. Her third book, another memoir and a prequel to Twice a Daughter, releases in February 2025. Julie splits her time between northwest Indiana and Sarasota, Florida.

Naziat is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at the Counseling Center of Queensborough Community College in Bayside, New York, where she sees students for personal and academic counseling, coordinates health events for students, and teaches Introduction to College freshman seminar. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey. She is a National Certified Counselor and has extensive experience working with diverse, underserved populations, especially families, adolescents, and young adults affected by trauma, abuse, substance abuse, and various other issues. She currently supervises mental health counseling interns at Footprints in the Bronx, New York. She also volunteers for the Bengali Mental Health Movement by being a part of monthly podcasts featuring various issues around mental health in the Bengali-speaking community.

On this episode of The Social Work Bubble Podcast, we are joined by Diana Beltran, LCSW, who gets into all things clinical social work, including being a director, her own journey to becoming a director, the importance of supporting Latino communities in clinical work, and the ins and outs of this job! 

Diana Beltran is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Arkansas and Texas. She is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas where her experience has been in working with nonprofit agencies providing services for low-income Hispanic communities. Upon receiving her MSW in 2018, she worked for Centers for Youth and Families in Little Rock, Arkansas providing services for Latino families. As she worked at the Centers for Youth and Families, she slowly worked on breaking the barriers of the mental health stigma in the Latino culture by engaging in community outreach at local Catholic churches. At Centers for Youth and Families, she worked with clients as young as 2 years old to adults by providing Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) to improve attachment to children as well as their parents who have experienced trauma. Not only was PCIT offered, but she also provided clients support and treatment for clients experiencing depression, anxiety, and issues with family/platonic relationships. Moreover, she engaged in conducting mental health assessments for clients going through immigration processes as well.

In January 2021, she began working for The Family Place, providing group and individual counseling services for domestic violence survivors. Throughout her experience in working at The Family Place, she has been able to educate survivors in Psycho-education Domestic Violence groups and provide a safe and culturally competent space to process their experience with other individuals who have gone through similar incidents. Now, she is the Clinical Director at Therapy Works Counseling where she oversees bilingual clinicians in five offices and provides supervision for master-level interns. Diana has continued to engage in community outreach by being available for interviews with Telemundo, Estrella, and Dallas Morning News, and conducting trainings to educate the community. She is dedicated to educating, supporting, and collaborating with those as equally as passionate about providing services for the Hispanic community.

The purpose of Upward Bound is to increase the academic performance and motivation of eligible enrollees so they can successfully complete high school and pursue a college education. It also aims to give low-income and potential first-generation college students the tools they need to succeed in their post-high school studies. She also a member of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Association for Black Social Workers (A.B.S.W.) and is a Community Action Network Service Organization (C.A.N.) member for black women.

Basiliso graduated with his Mastes in Social Work from Fordham University in 2010.
He is the author of Triumph Through Pain, How to Maximize Your Full Potential During Hard Times, released in July 2022, using poetry to discuss themes such as grief, loss, anxiety, self-awareness and financial literacy.
Basiliso is the contributing author to Amazon best seller, Latinx in Social Work Volume 2. In his chapter, When Addiction Hits Home, Basiliso discusses the impact of addiction in his household.
Basiliso is also the host of The Social Work Rants Podcast which can be currently listened to on all audio platforms and be seen on YouTube. The podcast has been listened to in over 60 countries. It was rated in the Top 10 for all social work podcasts according to Feedspot.

Eyesha Shaikh is currently pursuing her Masters in Social Work at George Mason University. She has a variety of experience working in a plethora of healthcare settings including hospitals, urgent and primary care, community services board, etc. She recently finished her first placement at the Mason and Partners clinic providing resources to the vulnerable population at a free clinic. Eyesha will be starting her MSW program’s final year and completing a field placement at the D.C Children’s hospital working in the cystic fibrosis unit of the ICU. She has a strong passion for working with children in medical settings to network and positively impact my community. As a future social worker, she hopes to continue learning new skills that she can use to excel in her career and grow in the healthcare profession.
