In high school he earned Player of the Year honors in baseball, football AND basketball. He played basketball at Nebraska while playing minor league baseball and still earned Big Eight Freshman of the Year, NIT MVP and finished with a Hall of Fame career. Strickland carved out an impressive 9 year NBA career after going undrafted in arguably the greatest draft class of all-time (1996). The 6’3 anomaly could defend every single position of the floor and broke the traditional way of thinking in the NBA as far as positions. What an honor it was to have one of the greatest players in ACC history and one of the best players to ever wear a UNC jersey on the podcast. Larry Miller joined us to share his basketball experiences from one of the more fascinating eras of hoops.

You will see his number 44 hanging in the rafters. Larry Miller is known as the recruit who helped spark the North Carolina program playing for legendary Coach Dean Smith during his early years of coaching. Miller earned ACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year TWICE both in 1966 and 1967. He was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Men’s Basketball Team being recognized as one of the fifty greatest players to ever play in the ACC. Miller went on to get drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, but chose to play in the ABA over the NBA. Miller set and forever holds the ABA record of 67 points in a single game. Miller shares great stories about growing up in PA, choosing UNC, Dean Smith, Charlie Scott, Billy Cunningham, Lew Alcindor, Wes Unseld, Wilt Chamberlain, the ABA, his funeral, acting, his book, and MUCH more!

This was an honor to have the opportunity to learn from one of the all-time greats and we can’t thank Larry enough for his time. Those who had the chance to watch Miller play know how unique of a player he was. He went on to have a successful career in the NBA, CBA and overseas where he was a CBA scoring champion, 2x Israeli League Scoring champion and Israeli League MVP. Vince Inglima attended Carson High School. He was a late bloomer going from a backup guard on the Freshman team to earning Sierra League Player of the Year as a Senior. He went on to have a Hall of Fame Career at Sonoma State. Inglima earned CCAA Male Athlete of the Year, All-West Region, and All-American honors. He also holds the school record for career 3-point percentage (44.6) and is third in free throw percentage (82.5). Inglima was an Academic All-American, and was awarded Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine. Vince helped lead his team to winning the CCAA for the first time in school history. He was inducted into the Sonoma State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. He also played professionally in Australia before jumping into the coaching world where he is currently the Head Coach at San Fransisco State. What an honor this is! We have basketball royalty on the podcast today. Jackie Stiles is in the house! The SMS legend, WNBA All-star and Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer joins us for an episode that is a must listen.

Before Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Plum, there was Jackie Stiles. Jackie Stiles is from small town Claflin Kansas and starred at Claflin High School. She led the whole country in scoring and holds just about every High School scoring record in the state if Kansas imaginable. She continued her greatness at Southwest Missouri State (Now Missouri State) where she went on to electrify Women’s basketball and capture the attention of the basketball world with her inspirational play by leading SMS to the Final Four and rewriting the whole NCAA Women’s basketball record books. She held the NCAA career scoring record for 16 years. Jackie earned the Wade Trophy and the Honda Awards Player of the Year, she is a 3x NCAA All-American, 4x MVC 1st Team and 3x MVC Player of the Year. She went on the be the 4th overall pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft, earned Rookie of the Year and was selected as a WNBA All-star as a rookie. She went on to be inducted into the Missouri State, Missouri Valley Conference, Springfield area, Kansas and the National High School Hall of Fame AND of course the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jordan Adams Smith is from Overton Nevada where she has an incredible high school athletics resume. She was a 4x State Champion and 2x State MVP in Volleyball and a State Champion in Basketball in 1999 where she also earned Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year. She went on to have a Hall of Fame college basketball career at New Mexico where she was Newcomer of the Year, 4x All-Mountain West selection,Mountain West Conference Tournament MVP, and helped lead her team to their first ever Sweet 16 appearance her senior year. She is the schools All Time Leader in Blocks (Both MBB and WBB), All-Time Leader in Field Goals Made, 3rd All Time in Scoring. She was the 1st UNM player drafted to the WNBA she was selected 18th overall in 2003. She had a successful career in the WNBA, NWBL, Overseas and even the Canadian National Team. She went on to Coach at Moapa Valley High School and also at the collegiate level.

For the first time ever we have Idaho State represented on the podcast. Idaho State legend and former NBA player Steve Hayes is in the house! It is an honor to have Steve share his hoops journey for an episode we know you’ll love. 

Steve Hayes was a high school standout in the state of Idaho. He went on to play for Idaho State where he led the Big Sky in both scoring and rebounding. He is Idaho States all time leader in rebounds and blocks. He is also 2nd all time in scoring. He is a 3x 1st Team All-Big Sky selection and he led his team to victory over UCLA which is known as one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history. Steve was the 76th overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft where he had a successful career in the NBA, EBA, CBA and Overseas. He was named CBA MVP and a CBA Champion during his time in that league. It’s an honor to drop this episode today. We have arguably the greatest female high school basketball player to ever come out of Northern Nevada on the podcast! Local legend Ashlee Orndorff takes time to share her incredibly emotional story with basketball and sexual abuse in one of the heaviest episodes in our 5 years of Not In My House Podcast.

Ashlee Orndorff is from small town Hawthorne Nevada. At 6’2’’ she was ahead of her time and absolutely superior to everyone on the basketball court. She played all positions on the floor and had the complete skillset with the ability to score inside, outside and she made everyone around her stars. Ashlee led Mineral County High School to three state titles. Orndorff at one point held the state record for career points and still holds the state record for career rebounds, career blocks and the single-game record for rebounds (30) and assists (15).  She was named USA Today Nevada Player of the Year in 1998, USA Today Honorable Mention All-American in 1999, She was named State MVP in both basketball and Volleyball in 2000 and she was selected to the Nike All-American Team. Orndorff was also ranked as a top 30 player and a top 5 wing player in the nation. Despite being recruited by the top programs in the country, she chose to sign with Nevada before transferring to University of Portland where she was the first in school history to earn WCC Newcomer of the Year and she also made WCC Honorable Mention. Ashlee shares her story of sexual abuse by her AAU coach that started at age 15 and continued throughout both her storied high school and college career that eventually led to drug addiction and depression...yet the ultimate bounce back story of courage and strength. 

This was truly an honor to have Ashlee Orndorff on the podcast today. Out of all of the incredible accolades racked up and the difference she made in every game she has suited up for in her legendary high school basketball career, the biggest difference may perhaps come from her life experiences off the court to help the next generation. Her life may have more of a purpose now than ever. How fitting that she once again the ultimate difference maker.

We had the honor to learn all about Georgetown legend and NCAA champion Gene Smith in Season 3, Episode 9. 
Drew Greer played football for the Ohio Bobcats in 1988 & 1989. He is a Storyteller, Creator, Teacher and Brand arsonist and extremely inspirational in the sneaker world. It is truly an honor to have these two on our podcast today.

It was important for us to give our guests the floor and tell their story. So much good came from this conversation. In this day an age, so many of us want to argue and not debate. Ben Gordon starred at UConn where he was the Big East Tournament MVP and an NCAA Champion. He went on to become the 3rd overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and was the first and only rookie to win the Sixth Man of the Year Award with the Chicago Bulls. Gordon had an outstanding NBA career that included many clutch moments in a very memorable playoff series. Gordon shares all about growing up in New York, high school days, UConn, Coach Calhoun, Emeka Okafor, Title run, Draft night, that incredible Bulls Celtics series, Ray Allen, business of the NBA, his Players Tribune Article, life after hoops and MUCH more!

We have our first Alabama A&M alumnus on the show! Mickell Gladness drops in to share his inspiring journey in hoops for an episode that you will all enjoy. Sometimes you don’t have to grow up being the star to get to where you want to be with this game and this episode is a great example of that.

Gladness was never the star in basketball growing up. He went to Lawson CC out of high school before playing his last 3 years of college at Alabama A&M. He led the nation in blocks per game with a 6.3 average and set the NCAA record, surpassing David Robinson with 16 blocks in a single game. After not being selected in the 2004 NBA Draft, Gladness had to fight for an NBA roster spot where he played with LeBron, Wade, and Bosh in Miami, and a young Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in the Golden State. Gladness went on to have great success overseas and even had a stop in Reno with our Reno Bighorns. Mickell shares great stories about Gerald Wallace, Jamario Moon, LeBron, D-Wade, Bosh, Luka Doncic, Dwight Howard, Reno, Mike Atkinson, experiences overseas, coaching and MUCH more!

What an honor this is! We have NYC, Rice HS, Texas Longhorn and Overseas legend Reggie Freeman on the podcast! Also known as “High Five”, Reggie shares his hoops story from beginning to end for an episode we know you’ll love. 

Reggie Freeman is one of the most exciting players from his era. He starred at Rice High School in one of the most electric times for high school hoops in NYC. He played for the Texas Longhorns where he earned First-Team All-SWC, First-Team All-Big 12 and AP Honorable-Mention All American honors along with four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He went on to have stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks and had an incredible career overseas where he won multiple championships and had his jersey retired. Reggie shares great stories about his time at Texas, Coach Tom Penders, Felipe Lopez, Terrence Rencher, Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, God Shammgod, Rucker Park, experiences overseas, coaching and MUCH more!

SIU is finally represented on this podcast! We got SIU & Carbondale legend Johnny Fayne on the show today for one of the most fun episodes we’ve had. We went back-to-back Illini legends! This time we have Cory Bradford on the podcast for an episode we know you’ll love. He is not only without a doubt one of the best shooters to ever wear an Illini jersey, but to also play in the Big Ten!

He had a successful career in the NBA, CBA, and Overseas and also found success off the court as a broadcaster earning himself an Emmy award. He was selected 27th overall in the 1982 NBA Draft where he went on to have a successful 13 year career in the NBA. He also played a few seasons overseas where he was a Spanish Cup Winner. Roberts shares great stories about growing up in Utah, choosing BYU, Devin Durrant, Greg Kite, Danny Ainge, Edgar Jones, George Gervin, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, coaching and MUCH more!

Every time we talk to a Seattle hooper the name David King is always mentioned when talking about the best to come out of the area. The powerful frame, Olajuwon-like footwork and incredible basketball hands is what most opponents rave about. He was key to the memorable and historic State Championship win in 1998 with Rainier Beach High School. Although his high school teammate was NBA Legend Jamal Crawford, it was David King with the post-game interview shouting that he was going to Disneyland after the victory. 

King will forever be loved and respected in Seattle, but we feel that he needs to be recognized in the entire basketball world. He has continued to be an important contributor to the game by both coaching high school basketball and running The CrawsOver as the director/commissioner. The CrawsOver is one of the most recognized Pro-Ams in the country and we get to hear all about it here. Great stories were shared about growing up in Seattle, the hoops scene in the City, a historic title run, Jamal Crawford, Douglas Wrenn-El, Doug Christie, LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, The CrawsOver, getting the Sonics back, coaching, and MUCH more!

How fitting to have #23 as the guest for our 23rd episode for Season 3! Mizzou and Pauldingburg is going to love this one… Mr. Oldenburg himself! We got Rickey Paulding on the podcast today to share his hoops story with us. 

Rickey Paulding left his mark on Missouri after an outstanding college career. He went on to be drafted 54th overall by his hometown Detroit Pistons before going to play overseas, including an absolutely legendary career in Germany. He is incredibly beloved in Oldenburg where locals refer to the city name as “Pauldingburg” and you can find murals and portraits of him throughout. His number 23 hangs in Oldenburg having just recently retired after 15 amazing years there. Rickey shares some great stories about growing up in Detroit, the recruiting process, Mizzou, Coach Quin Snyder, Arthur Johnson, Dwayne Wade, Tony Allen, the Draft process, his wild experiences overseas, his love for Germany, and MUCH more!

This was an absolute honor to learn from one of Zach’s favorite college players of ALL TIME. There are so many great stories and tips shared in this episode and we are forever grateful for the experience. Rickey Paulding is hands down one of the most down to earth and fun guests that we have ever had. Real hoopers are going to appreciate this one. Sam Clancy Jr. joins us on the podcast today! The USC and overseas great shares his hoops story from beginning to end in an episode that we know you’re going to love. 

Sam Clancy Jr. is the son of former NFL player, Sam Clancy. His father was also an incredible college basketball player at Pitt and a member of the Gold Medal-winning 1979 U.S. Pan American Games basketball team. Clancy Jr. chose the basketball route where he won a state championship with Steve Logan. He went on to USC where he became the school’s all-time leading shot blocker and was the Pac-10 Player of the Year. He was the 45th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and went on to have an incredible career overseas. He shared some great stories about his father, Steve Logan, USC, Elite 8 run, NBA Draft process, Allen Iverson, Larry Brown, WILD experiences overseas, and MUCH more!

Today’s conversation doesn’t get more inspirational than this. We got another Hoya on the podcast! Chris Wright joins us today to share his incredible story for an episode that we know you’ll love and appreciate.

Chris Wright was a decorated high school star from St. John’s College HS, he is the school’s all time leading scorer and went on to be a McDonald’s All-American where he won the 3pt Contest. He went on to play at Georgetown where he was a key player for some great Hoya teams and continued his career both overseas and in the NBA. Chris was diagnosed with MS while playing professionally. He became the only NBA player with MS and he shares all about his diagnosis and his inspiring journey with MS both on and off the court. Chris went from being told that that he would never play basketball again to playing for the Dallas Mavericks, making an All-FIBA Europe Cup team, Turkish League Assists leader and inspiring SO many by becoming the face for bringing awareness to MS in the NBA.

 Chris was an incredible guest and we are so grateful for his time. He shared awesome stories about Georgetown, Stephen Curry, NBA Draft process, experiences overseas, Mark Cuban, Dirk, his journey living & playing professionally with MS, his podcast and MUCH more. Our basketball heads are going to absolutely love this one! We are blessed to have a BYU legend and former NBA player on the podcast today! What an honor this is! We have one of the greatest players in ACC history and one of the best players to ever wear a UNC jersey on the podcast today. Larry Miller joins us to share his basketball experiences from one of the more fascinating eras of hoops.

You will see his number 44 hanging in the rafters. Larry Miller is known as the recruit who helped spark the North Carolina program playing for legendary Coach Dean Smith during his early years of coaching. Miller earned ACC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year TWICE both in 1966 and 1967. He was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Men’s Basketball Team being recognized as one of the fifty greatest players to ever play in the ACC. Miller went on to get drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, but chose to play in the ABA over the NBA. Miller set and forever holds the ABA record of 67 points in a single game. Miller shares great stories about growing up in PA, choosing UNC, Dean Smith, Charlie Scott, Billy Cunningham, Lew Alcindor, Wes Unseld, Wilt Chamberlain, the ABA, his funeral, acting, his book, and MUCH more!

True hoop fanatics will understand the beauty of this one. We got the captain from that 1984 Georgetown Hoya championship team. Gene Smith takes the time and shares his experiences and damn is it a good one.

Gene Smith was a defensive nightmare for opposing teams. His motor was relentless and he had an incredible ability to beat guys to a spot, sacrifice his body for a charge, dive on every loose ball, and he just never seemed to go away. He was a key part to Georgetown’s success and earned the team captain role on a championship team that featured Patrick Ewing, David Wingate, Reggie Williams, Michael Jackson and other future NBA players. He went on to be drafted in the 5th round (1st pick, 94th overall) by the Pacers in that historic 1984 NBA Draft.  Gene shares great stories about Patrick Ewing, Coach John Thompson, Michael Jordan, Pearl Washington, James Worthy, Hoya Paranoia, his podcast Hoya Locker Room and MUCH more.

You all know us too well to know that we couldn’t not track down a Saint Peter’s alumni after the recent magical run. What better guest to have than the school’s all-time leader in points per game average?! Rich Rinaldi is in the house and it is an HONOR! We of course love the recognition the current Saint Peter’s team is getting recently, but we wanted to show some love to one of the staples of the school’s history and program.

Rich Rinaldi was a gifted scorer averaging 28.6 points per game by the time he was a senior at Saint Peter’s. He went on to become the 43rd overall pick in the 1971 NBA Draft by the Baltimore Bullets where he played three years in the NBA & ABA and many more overseas. After his playing days he worked for the National Basketball Players Association, counseling players on the transition to post-basketball careers. Rinaldi shares great stories about the High School and blacktop scene in New York, his time at Saint Peter’s, Elnardo Webster, Jo Jo White, Pete Maravich, Phil Chenier, Walt Frazier, Jerry West, Walt Bellamy, Stan Love, giving fouls, wild experiences overseas, Saint Peter’s magical run to the Elite Eight and MUCH more!

We can’t thank Rinaldi enough for his time and all of the amazing stories he shared. His era was special and the young listeners will learn A LOT about the game in this one. He was extremely generous with his time, detailed with his answers, and truly one of our favorite guests we’ve had. We know you will all feel the same. It’s a special episode for all of our local Nevada Wolf Pack fans. Faron Hand AKA “Meatball" is in the house! The former Big West player of the year shares his basketball story with us and some fun memories about his days playing in Reno.

Faron Hand is from Philly and played in a special era of basketball where he played against familiar names like Rasheed Wallace, Aaron Mckee, Marc Jackson and many others. He went on to play for Nevada where he was the 1996-97 Big West Player of the year and helped put the Pack on the map. He shares great stories about growing up in Philly, The Sonny Hill League, his journey to Nevada and time with the Wolf Pack, his experience overseas, coaching, the story behind earning the nickname “Meatball” and MUCH more.

This was an honor to learn from one of the Philly legends and Nevada greats. Plenty of laughs in this one with all of the Reno nostalgia and some great hoop stories. One thing is for damn sure… we need to get Faron Hand in the Reno Nevada Hall of Fame. Nevada was lucky to have him and we need to make this happen!

We took a few weeks off but we are coming back hot! We have been asked by many listeners to get a USC alumni on this show and who better to get than one of the most exciting players from the program? Jeff Trepagnier joins us to share his basketball experiences for an episode that we know you’ll love. 

Trepagnier is without a doubt one of the most explosive players to wear a USC uniform. A fun fact that most hoop fans might not know is that he was a phenomenal track athlete and took 2nd place in the Pac 10 Championships for 2 years in a row with a high jump of 7’1’’ which is tied for 5th best in USC school history. As for basketball, he helped lead USC to a Sweet 16 run then went on to get drafted 35th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He had a great career in both the NBA and overseas and holds the record for most steals (12) in a EuroLeague game. He shares great stories about growing up in Compton, USC, college dunk contest, Henry Bibby, Brian Scalabrini, Draft night, Jerry Stackhouse, experiences overseas, Compton Magic and MUCH more.

Some episodes just deserve love for both basketball and non-basketball reasons. Isaiah Thomas should be every young hooper’s role model and recognized by all. From growing up with very little opportunity to be seen in the hoops world, to developing into an overseas star, Isaiah carved his own path to success and made a name for himself. 

You saw the desire and will in his game along with his high arching jumper, hypnotizing moves off the dribble, and the occasional electrifying posters. The highlights caught our eye, but it’s what he continued to do when the ball stopped bouncing that touched us the most. A career-ending accident would defeat or completely break most people but for Isaiah Thomas, it is quite the opposite. You see the same heart and desire in his day-to-day life after his accident and his willingness to be open and help inspire others. We just had to reach out and learn more.

We love Isaiah and it was important for us to recognize him as a player but to also learn more about his story after basketball. He is doing big things with his clothing brand and we know that his greatness will only continue to grow. We know this because thats just the type of dude he is. This is the one person we know that will never give up. Watch It Pay Off.

We are starting 2022 hot! Any hoop head from the early 2000’s era will appreciate this one. J.R. Giddens is our first guest of the year (and season 3) for an episode that you don’t want to miss. 

Giddens was a McDonald’s All-American in a STACKED class that featured LeBron James, CP3, Charlie Villanueva, Kendrick Perkins, Luol Deng and MANY others. He played his college hoops at both Kansas and New Mexico before being selected in the first round by the Boston Celtics and went on to have a great career in both the NBA and overseas. He shares great stories about growing up in OKC, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, the business of professional basketball, wild experiences overseas, coaching and MUCH more.

It’s about time we got another Blue Devil on the podcast! Duke legend Kenny Dennard joins us today to share his experiences with us. He has always had to prove others wrong and overcome adversity since the very beginning. It’s an inspiring story and we get to hear all about it!

Kenny Dennard played on those memorable Duke teams that included Gene Banks, Mike Gminski, Jim Spanarkel, and Coach Foster. Dennard helped rebuild and lead Duke to the championship game in 1978 as a Freshman after the program finished last in the ACC the year before. Dennard played 4 years at Duke including Coach K’s first season. He went on to be selected in the 4th round by the Kansas City Kings and played 3 seasons in the NBA. Dennard overcame a lot during his career. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer while fighting his way back to the NBA. His experiences have been able to help and inspire many people across the world and it’s truly an honor to have him share his story with us today.

We are taking it back to one of our favorite eras of hoops for this one. The Super-Sub is in the house! Ricky Sobers joins us on the podcast for an episode that true basketball fans will absolutely love and appreciate. 

Ricky Sobers grew up in The Bronx, NY during a very special era of basketball. He was one of the greatest players from the city to ever play on the blacktop during his time and never even played a minute of High School basketball. His love for the game and guidance from  Tiny Archibald helped him continue his basketball dreams to the College of Southern Idaho and UNLV where he was coach Jerry Tarkanian’s first big recruit and was the WCAC Player of the Year in 1974-75. Sobers became the 16th overall pick in the 1975 NBA Draft. He played 11 seasons in the NBA and played in the famous "Greatest Game Ever Played”.

This was truly an honor. Sobers shared amazing stories about the blacktop game in NYC, Tiny Archibald, Joe Hammond, Jerry Tarkanian, UNLV, Rick Barry, Paul Westphal, Gar Heard, The Greatest Game Ever Played, raising his number 40 to the rafters and MUCH more. This one is SWEET… like Sweet 16 sweet! We get to catch up with current Utah Valley assistant coach and former Nevada Wolf Pack guard Todd Okeson! We learn all about his experiences in hoops from player to coach and there are of course plenty of Nevada stories in this one!

Todd Okeson grew up in a small farm town in Kansas of about 300 people. The ball eventually bounced to Reno, Nevada where he was a fan-favorite for our Nevada Wolf Pack. Okeson was a key piece to that amazing 2004 Sweet 16 team that starred Kirk Snyder, Garry Hill-Thomas, Kevinn Pinkney, Nick Fazekas and Sean Paul just to name a few. That team meant so much to the city of Reno and they truly put Nevada basketball on the map. We get to hear all about the Sweet 16 run and other great stories about Coach Trent Johnson, Kirk Snyder, Ben Gordon, beating Kansas, Keith Langford, Tim Hardaway, The ABA, playing overseas, Mark Madsen, coaching, Utah Valley and MUCH more.

Some of our listeners in the United States may remember him by the name Sean Allen but everyone overseas knows him as Sean J. McCaw. It is an honor to have Sean J. McCaw on the podcast for an episode that our local and overseas listeners will absolutely LOVE. There is truly no better person to learn about the business, game, grind and lifestyle of overseas hoops than Sean, so we hope you appreciate this one just as much as we did.

Sean J. McCaw played his high school basketball at Western High School in Las Vegas NV where he was a member of a state championship team in 1991. He went on to play at Arizona before transferring to both Dixie State and Southern Utah University. He played for Southern Utah for just 2 years and was still inducted into their Hall of Fame. McCaw went on to have a successful 13 year pro career overseas and shares all of his experiences and life lessons from his playing days. He wrote a book titled “Same Name Different Game” that gives any aspiring pro hooper the proper tools and information to have a successful rookie year playing overseas. Believe us when we say just how valuable this information is!

Old School is in the house! Kelvin Davis joins us to share his hoops journey; one that isn't quite finished yet. You may have heard his name in the news the last few months and if you haven't then you're going to LOVE this story!

Kelvin Davis is the oldest rookie in professional basketball history. At age 47 his professional career began in the ABA. Fast forward to today, at 62 years young he is following his dreams of playing in the NBA. Kelvin shares his past growing up in Alabama, high school hoops scene in Alabama, college days at Alabama State, memories from ABA, his everyday training schedule for the NBA, his tryout, his book and MUCH more.

Kelvin has been an inspiration across the world and it was an honor to have the opportunity to learn more about his story. He has incredible energy and is truly one of the nicest people we have had the opportunity to speak with. Kelvin is a great example of why you should never give up on your dreams. We have a feeling that this won't be the last time you hear about Old School.

What an honor this is! We got a Chicago Hoops legend, the Crown Prince of Basketball of Illinois, Doc himself! Marcus Liberty is in the house today to share his hoops journey with us in an episode that we know you will enjoy.

Marcus Liberty is without a doubt in the conversation for the best prep player to ever come out of Chicago. The accolades never seem to end. Liberty led his high school team to League titles in 1986 and 1987, and to an Illinois Class AA State Championship in 1986. He is the first to be named the Tournament MVP two consecutive years and to win two tournament scoring titles. He was named Mr. Basketball of the State of Illinois and was a McDonalds All American. Sports Illustrated, Parade Magazine and USA Today ranked him the #1 High School Player in the country. He was a key member of University of Illinois of the famous "Flying Illini” that made a run to the Final Four. He went on to have a great career in the NBA, overseas and other leagues.

The kids know him as Old Man Dan. They got to know real quick though that he could hoop and he  earned the respect from many across the world. That’s why we had to track down Old Man Dan himself and learn all about his journey. Dan Stoddard shares his story with us and it’s truly an inspiring one.

Dan Stoddard is our first Canadian born guest and grew up in a time when basketball was not exactly popular. His high school career was limited for academic reasons, then he attended college but spent countless hours in the gym instead of in the classroom. However, he did not play a minute of college basketball and went on to get married, have kids, and worked over 70 jobs in his 20’s and 30’s. At 6’8, 450 pounds, and 38 years old, Stoddard was discover by the coach of Algonquin College in Ottawa, Trevor Costello, at a recreational tournament who approached him about playing. Stoddard became motivated, put the work in, and lost over 60 pounds before tryouts, all while working as a bus driver, being a full time student, and raising a family. During his time as a college basketball player Dan lost nearly 170 pounds, proving that he was serious about his hoop dream. Stoddard became an important piece of the team’s success and an inspiration to people across the world.

You just don’t hear stories like this and we can’t thank Dan enough for taking the time to share the journey with us. We of course love our episodes with the well known NBA players, coaches and historians, but it’s stories like this that make this game and life so special. That is why it was so important for us to track him down, because every single one of our listeners need to know about Old Man Dan.

Age is just a number and today’s guest proved that to be true. We’ve got basketball history in the house! Ken Mink is the oldest college basketball player to ever score in a game and we get to hear all about it. 

Ken Mink was born in 1935 and grew up in Tennessee. He starred on his high school team that led him to a scholarship to play at Lee’s College. An alleged prank that he was falsely accused of got him kicked off his college team in the 1950’s. Fast forward 53 years later and at the age of 73, Ken decided to give college basketball another shot. He made the team at Roane State in 2008-2009 and became the oldest player to ever score in a college basketball game. He played and scored in multiple games and became an inspiration across the world. He went on to win many gold medals in the senior olympics in both team and individual competitions and is still competing to this day at age 86. Ken shares great stories about growing up in Tennessee, Johnny Cox, Frank Selvy, Pete Maravich, Big O, the alleged prank, his comeback at age 73, senior olympics, changes in the game, his books and MUCH more.

Jermaine Barnes has always been a student of the game. Of course his explosive dunks raised plenty of eyebrows, but the amount of studying and work he put in to master his footwork, fundamentals, relationship with the ball, and his lethal mid-range game is what makes Barnes such a unique and automatic scorer. JB’s basketball journey is like none other. He went from National Player of the Year at Atlanta Christian, to leading seven different countries in scoring over the span of 8 years, including dropping a historic 63 piece in Japan. He won a silver medal, appeared in SLAM Magazine, and caught the attention of Sam Mitchell which led to a stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Barnes shares great stories about Kwame Brown, Keith Closs, Sam Mitchell, Kevin Garnett, WILD experiences overseas, overcoming adversity from his injury, his relationship with God and MUCH more.

There are simply just too many achievements and highlights of the Jermaine Barnes journey to list in a quick summary. You will truly need to listen to his story to fully appreciate and understand all that he has overcome and accomplished throughout his career. He may not get all the glory that some of the biggest names in sports get from the media or the average fan, but he sure as hell gets the respect from those guys. He’s about to have yours too if he doesn’t already.

We finally got Philly represented on the podcast! Jackson grew up in Philly in the same neighborhood of Temple University. He played one season at VCU before transferring back home to play his last three seasons of college hoops for Temple. Jackson was selected by the Golden State Warriors as the 37th pick of the 1997 NBA Draft. He had a successful career both overseas and in the NBA and was a key contributor on every team he suited up for. He shares great stories about the high school hoops scene in Philly, Rasheed Wallace, Faron “Meatball” Hand, Coach John Chaney, business of the NBA, Gilbert Arenas, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Jason Kidd, his WILD experiences overseas, his non-profit Team Jacko and MUCH more.

We got an Australian Basketball legend joining us today. We have former NBA and NBL player Lanard Copeland in the house! He is one of the NBL’s great high-flyers and automatic scorers and he has an inspiring journey that is like no other. Trust us!

Lanard Copeland was cut every single year from his high school team. In fact, the very first jersey that he ever wore was his first year of college basketball at Georgia State. After not being selected in the 1989 NBA Draft, Copeland again had to prove that he belonged on the basketball court. He worked his way into the NBA where he played 2 years in the NBA for the 76ers and Clippers. Copeland continued his basketball career in the NBL where he had a Hall of Fame career that included 5 All Star appearances, 2 NBL Championships, a Grand Finals MVP and his number 21 being retired. Not bad for a guy who was cut from his high school team. Copeland shares great stories about growing up in ATL, Georgia State, Willie Brown, journey to NBA, David Robinson, Charles Barkley, Rick Mahorn, Hersey Hawkins, Michael Jordan, Larry Johnson, Andrew Gaze, growth of NBL and MUCH more.

This was truly an honor to learn more about Copeland’s basketball journey today. His story is one that will help and inspire a lot of young athletes who may have been cut from their teams but still have a deep love and passion for the game. This is the ultimate success story from never wearing a jersey until college to raising a jersey to rafters. We know you’re going to love this one!

The real hoopers know just how special this one is. However, not all know just how incredible his journey in basketball, life and transformation is. We are blessed to have Jelani Gardner join us for a conversation that will move and motivate you in whole different way than what you’re used to on this podcast. 

Jelani Gardner grew up in the Los Angeles area in an incredible era for high school hoops. The 6’6’’ guard from St John Bosco High School dazzled packed gyms with the smooth handles, no-look passes, jaw-dropping dunks, and undeniable passion, love and desire for the game. After working his way to being the number one ranked player in California, Gardner was selected to the McDonald’s All-American game and played at both Cal and Pepperdine. You may have wondered why Gardner was not in the NBA. The average person would look at Gardner and see a physical speciman who seems perfectly fit and healthy to be an NBA star. Gardner was diagnosed with a kidney disease during his college career, playing through this whole college and pro career with his kidneys working at 40 percent. Unable to pass an NBA physical, he still managed to have an incredible career playing overseas even after a kidney transplant. The desire and will it took on day to day basis is one of the most incredible feats we have ever heard on this podcast and we know you will have a whole new respect for Gardner, his game, his desire and overall view on life. His commitment to the game, his faith, his family and giving back to the youth speaks volumes of the person he is today.

Kind of like watching Jelani throwing over-the-head passes or skying high for a dunk on a fastbreak on the court, this is one of those episodes where you just shake your head in disbelief. He is without a doubt a fighter and true warrior both on and off the court. This won’t be the last time you hear about Gardner as his kids have serious game too! Keep an eye out for the Gardner brothers. They have some incredible guidance from their pops so we have a feeling that you’re all in for a treat!

We got Seattle’s finest in the house today! Seattle is an absolute hotbed for basketball and has cooked up some of the best players around the league including Jamal Crawford, Isaiah Thomas, Nate Robinson and many others. One player was coined “a man amongst boys” during his playing days and ranks at the very top of most hoopers lists when you talk about the best of the best from the 206. It’s our pleasure to introduce to you, Douglas Wrenn-El.

Wrenn-El was a decorated prep star from O’Dea High School where he was a State Champion and earned State of Washington, Parade All-American, McDonald’s All-American & Gatorade Player of the Year awards and was a Top 25 recruit in the nation. He went on to play at UConn & Washington where his experiences from handlers, coaches and other wild events sent him on the overseas route rather than the NBA . Wrenn-El shares his shocking experiences with the law that led him to prison time for a crime that he did not commit. There is however a beautiful part to this story which is his journey to finding his peace and love.

Anytime we ask former guests about the best high school basketball players they played against in the early 90’s, there is always one name that is mentioned immediately. Jerod Ward is that name and we are beyond blessed to have him on the podcast today. The message is clear in this one. Never Be Average and “Eat Adversity.”

Ward was the number one recruit in the nation and went on to win the Naismith Player of the Year in 1994. He was a McDonald’s All-American, First Team Parade, Slam Magazine, USA Today, and Basketball Times All-American. He went on to Michigan where he was a member of Fab Five II and battled a series of obstacles including continuous injuries, the pressure of living up to expectations, and depression. After career-threatening injuries he still managed to carve out an incredible pro career overseas that included stints with multiple NBA teams. The journey will WOW you with all of the adversity he had to overcome and we know this conversation will inspire our listeners. 

Our time with Ward was incredible. His words absolutely hit home and this was truly one of the most inspiring conversations we have had on this show. All of you 90’s hoops fans will be pumped about this one and one thing is for sure, someone needs to update this man’s Basketball Reference and Wikipedia page. Even though we experienced a few technical difficulties during this one, Priest stuck with us and still took the time to share his story and we truly appreciate him.

Priest Lauderdale never played high school or AAU basketball. After developing his skills on the blacktop in Chicago, the 7’3’’ center played his college hoops at Central State University before heading overseas to prepare for the NBA. He was the 28th overall pick in the historic 1996 NBA Draft. He played 2 seasons in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and the Denver Nuggets and continued to play many seasons professionally overseas. Priest shares great stories about growing up in Chicago, the NBA Draft process, Dikembe Mutombo, the 90’s Bulls, business of the NBA, his experience overseas, Wikipedia & Internet errors and MUCH more.

This episode is about as real as it gets. We got Keith “The Boss” Closs in the house! We have been wanting to do this episode for quite some time and it did not disappoint one bit. 

Closs was ahead of his time. In an era where 7 footers played on the block with their back to the basket, the 7’3’’ Closs could handle the ball, shoot the rock from outside, and is without question one of if not THE best blocker of all time. His 2 years at Central Connecticut are historic as he led the nation in blocked shots and to this day holds the NCAA record for highest career average in blocked shots per game (5.87). He spent 3 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers and we get to hear all about business of the NBA and the events that transpired that put an end to his NBA career after just 3 seasons. At age 45, Keith is still hooping, giving back to youth and mentoring young pros  which is something we truly admire. Amazing stories shared in this one about the high school/AAU circuit in LA, journey to NBA, Kobe, Donald Sterling, Michael Jordan, recovery, coaching, his new custom shoe and MUCH more.

Believe in yourself or nobody else will. This really is one of the most inspiring hoop journeys that we have had the honor to learn about. It’s our pleasure to have Darryl McDonald in the house! Of course like any hoop fan we can watch his highlight reels on repeat in awe, but it was truly special to look beyond the highlights and hear about the work put in and the obstacles that had to be overcome to reach success. 

The no-look passes, incredible handles, and knack for steals make the nickname “Mr. Excitement” more than fitting. The Rucker Park legend dropped out of high school and never played a minute of High School basketball. His path from the blacktop to Westchester CC to Texas A&M itself will earn your respect, but the grind isn’t even close to ending there. He was not selected in the 1988 NBA Draft and would be cut multiple times from the CBA and other professional leagues. Nearly every hooper’s basketball dreams would be shattered, but D-Mac kept hooping, kept grinding, and found a home in the NBL. He is the NBL’s all-time leader in steals, 2nd All-time in assists, a 3x NBL Champion, 2x Allstar game MVP and his fingerprints are all over the growth of basketball in Australia. 

We are very grateful for our time with D-Mac. This episode will inspire a lot of young athletes and he shared some great stories about growing up in Harlem, Rucker Park, Joe Hammond, Texas A&M, the draft process, both the lifestyle & grind of the CBA, Brett Brown, NBL, coaching, kangaroos and MUCH more including perhaps one of the most bizarre overseas stories we have ever heard on this show! There are more than a handfull of incredible high school basketball players that have come out of the Los Angeles area. LA is a hotbed for basketball and when you talk about all of the hoopers from that area, there is one name specifically that is ALWAYS mentioned to be among the best of the best. That name is Ricky Price and we are honored to have this opportunity to learn all about his hoops journey.

Price is without question one of the greatest high school basketball players to ever come out of the Los Angeles area. His mid-range game was automatic and his 6'6'' size along with his athleticism  was the perfect recipe to be a hooper. The 1994 Player of the Year went on to become a McDonald’s All-American where he was also the Slam Dunk Champion. He was a 4 year player at Duke University and went on to have a successful career overseas. We get to hear all about his journey which includes fantastic stories about Shawn Bradley, Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Dennis Rodman, Shaq, Andrew Gaze, beating Michael Jordan and the Bulls, the NBL, experience overseas, Voo-doo Lady, Olympics, his book titled "Tall Tales" and MUCH more.

We don't expect you to recognize the name, but sometimes the unexpected turns out to be the most interesting. Chris Ott joins us today to share his experiences that involve multiple former guests of ours. He gives us a great idea of what the average role player in college basketball will go through and also the struggles of a first year Division 1 program. 

Ott played competitive High School and AAU hoops both with and against some big time legendary names out of the Los Angeles area. He went on to play at Cal Poly where he was a member of the team for their very first year at the Division 1 level. That year Cal Poly had the losingest record for a first year Division 1 program (1-26). He then transferred and finished his career at Mercer. He shares some great stories about Andre Miller, Chris Herren, Rico Harris, Paul Shirley, Elton Brand, Felipe Lopez, Carlos Arroyo, legendary coach Bob Burton, playing against Duke and MUCH more. 

This episode was an absolute joy. We know you're all used to our former professional players but we know you will love these stories and really appreciate his basketball experiences and the incredible players that he was able to play against. We had a blast with this one. Former Iowa State star, NBA player, and author Paul Shirley is in the house! This was some of the most fun we have had on this show and we know that you’re all in for treat.

Shirley was undrafted after a successful career at Iowa State. He had stints with the Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Phoenix Suns and had great success playing overseas. He is the author of “Can I Keep My Jersey” , “Stories I Tell On Dates” and “Ball Boy”. He also runs the Writers Blok and has done some amazing work with his writing. He shares some awesome stories about his time in Reno, Iowa State, Kelvin Cato, Roy Williams, training camp with the championship Lakers team, his 2K rating, his writing and MUCH more.

This was one of our favorite episodes that we have done and we can’t thank Paul enough for his time. He has a great perspective on both basketball and life and has a great sense of humor. We hope this episode gives you a whole different level of respect for professional athletes who don’t have the stability of some of the game’s biggest stars. It's double the fun today, especially for you TBT fans. For the first time we have back-to-back guests in the same episode. We got 2 members of the Utah Valor on the show today. Marquis Marshall and Chris Jones take the time to share their hoop stories and their preparation for this year’s TBT.

Marquis is the son of former NBA player Donyell Marshall, but he has made a name for himself at the college Division I, II AND III level. He went on to play overseas and is now a key member of the Utah Valor. Team captain Chris Jones has an inspiring story of never giving up on his dream of playing college basketball and professionally. He went on to play overseas in Australia and Mexico and even played in the U.S Minor Leagues. Both stories are very different and very inspiring in their own way and it says a lot about their character. There are some great stories in this episode about their experiences in college, overseas, Bryan Tracy, Keith Closs, Ronnie Price, TBT, Fortnite (yes, Fortnite)  and MUCH more.

It is very hard to not pull for Utah Valor after spending time with both of these guys. It only felt right to include both Marquis and Chris in the same episode since Utah Valor is so team oriented. We also wanted you to get a feel for the type of high character guys this squad has put together this year. The main thing we learned from this episode is that these two are winners both on and off the court. Don’t be surprised if Utah Valor makes some noise this year.

All love and respect in this episode. We got perhaps the most passionate and energetic guest that we have ever had on this show today. The Ol’ Black Magic himself is in the house! Carl Krauser takes the time to hang out and share his hoops story with us in an episode full of love, laughs, and amazing stories that we know you’ll enjoy.

Krauser grew up in The Bronx NY and is proud of it. You may remember him from throwing up the X after a big time play in a crucial moment on the biggest stage. He was a fearless competitor and without a doubt played with a huge heart. He starred at Pitt where he was the Big East Most Improved Player of the Year as a sophomore, and was 3x All Big East and 2x All Big East Tourney. He went on to have great success overseas and clearly still has that same passion and love for the game. Most importantly, like us he is all about spreading positive energy to people and giving props to those who deserve the recognition. Krauser without a doubt deserves that same recognition.

Truly one of the best times we have had on this show. One of our funniest, most honest and passionate guests we have had and you will without a doubt leave this conversation learning a lot about the game, the business, the struggle, along with endless laughs. Respect his journey because it was far from an easy one, but the real ones know just how much he accomplished and we have a feeling his next chapter will be even greater with the passion this guy has.

This one will give our local listeners chills. We have been wanting to do this episode for quite some time. We have South Tahoe High School legend & state champion Jerod Haase on the show today. This is our first local born guest on the show today and it did NOT disappoint!
      
Jerod Haase starred at South Tahoe High School where he played for coach Tom Orlich. They won the state championship together his senior year in 1992 where they beat a great Western High School team led by Prince Fowler. To this day it is recognized as one of the greatest state championship victories ever by a Northern team. Haase went on to play one season at Cal on a team led by Jason Kidd & Lamond Murray before transferring to Kansas. He led the team in scoring his first season on a team that featured a roster of future NBA players Raef Lafrentz, Jacque Vaughn, Greg Ostertag, Scot Pollard and Billy Thomas. Haase is also the author of the book Floor Burns, and is the current coach of the Stanford Men’s Basketball team. We are honored to learn all about his hoops journey and hear great stories about South Tahoe’s title run, his college career, Roy Williams, Tom Orlich, experience playing prefessionally overseas, Floor Burns, Stanford Basketball and MUCH more.
      
It was a pleasure hanging out with Coach Haase and we can’t thank him enough for his time. He was truly one of the most passionate and hardest working players this area has ever seen, and we love that his passion has carried over to the sidelines not only in basketball, but also in education and life. This was an honor and we know you’ll appreciate this one too.

Our true basketball fans will really appreciate this episode. We are starting off the weekend right with one of the most dynamic scorers who made it look REAL easy, especially during his high school and college days. Joseph Forte takes the time to chop it up and share his story with us. 
      
Forte starred at DeMatha High School where he played under the legendary coach, Morgan Wootten. He was a McDonald’s All-American and went on to play 2 years at North Carolina where he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year, first-team All-American, and ACC co-Player of the Year. He also helped lead UNC to a very memorable Final Four run. He was selected 21st overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2001 NBA Draft and had a great career that included stops in both the NBA and overseas. He shares great stories about his time at UNC, journey to the NBA, experience overseas, Morgan Wootten, Bill Guthridge, Gary Payton, Ray Allen, Baron Davis, Jeremy Pargo, Sofoklis Schortsanitis and MUCH more.
     
It was an absolute pleasure to learn from Joseph Forte and we can’t thank him enough for sharing his hoops story with us. In this episode we relive some memorable moments that will also really help the young hoopers coming up. His game always stood out on the big stage, but the man he is today is what stands out the most. We know you’ll enjoy this one!

What an honor this episode was. So much history and basketball nostalgia in this one as Tom Van Arsdale takes the time to share his basketball experiences with us. This may be the most unique episode of them all as this is the first guest we have had from the golden era of high school, collegiate and professional basketball.
     

Tom Van Arsdale and his identical twin brother Dick Van Arsdale starred at Emmerich Manual High School and both went on to play for legendary coach Branch McCracken at Indiana University. They would go on to be drafted back-to-back in the 1965 NBA Draft and again play together in 1976-77 for the Phoenix Suns for their final NBA season. They were both 3x All-Stars and are the first brothers to play in an NBA All-Star game. You could say they’re fairly similar. Tom still holds the NBA record for most career games played without a playoff appearance. He played 929 games without making a single playoff appearance. Van Arsdale is also the highest scoring player (14,232 career points) in NBA history without a playoff appearance. Even though Tom never did play in a playoff game, he has some amazing and historic experiences that he shares including amazing stories about the high school hoops scene in Indiana, Bobby Plump, Branch McCracken, his time as a Hoosier, journey to NBA, playing with Oscar Robertson, Tiny Archibald, Wilt Chamberlain, the NBA lifestyle in the 60’s, Van Arsdale Art, his book and MUCH more.
     

There is truly no episode quite like this one and we can’t thank Tom enough for his time. It’s rare to have the opportunity to speak with an All-Star from the golden era of basketball and learn about some of the all-time greats from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. It was fascinating to learn from his experiences and took us back in time to hear about how different the league, the business and the game was and how it has evolved. We also have a surprise appearance from another former All-Star in this episode… bet you can’t guess who!

This is an episode we have been wanting to do for quite some time. BIG thanks to Eric Devendorf for taking the time to share his hoops journey with us. The fiery guard played with a certain passion that very few have, and it is an absolute pleasure to have him on the show today. 

The Bay City, MI native finished his high school hoops career at Oak Hill Academy. He was named a McDonald’s All American and went on to have a successful and unforgettable career at Syracuse. We get to hear some incredible stories, including his time playing with Kevin Durant at Oak Hill, experience from the legendary 6 Overtime game against UConn, Jim Boeheim, Reno Bighorns, experience overseas, TBT and MUCH more. 

We really enjoyed our time with Devendorf today.  There is no doubt that this episode will leave you wanting to do what you can to give back and do something positive for others. We love the hoop stories but what he is doing in the community and for the youth is the ultimate assist.

You won’t find many people who are more passionate about the game of basketball than this guy. Chris Thomas hangs out with us today to share his basketball story. This one is much different than our previous episodes and true basketball fanatics will really appreciate this one.     

Chris Thomas runs the ECBL (East Coast Basketball League) which is one of the few successful minor leagues in the country. He is also the GM and head coach of PrimeTime Players, who have had quite a few great showings in TBT. Chris shares stories about his background, the startup of PrimeTime Players, obstacles of running a minor league, TBT, Trevor Booker and MUCH more.     

We really appreciate Chris for taking the time to hang out and talk hoops with us. It was a joy to learn more about what GM’s, coaches, and players of the minor leagues go through and how they truly do this for the love of the game. After our time with Chris, we can say the love and passion he has for hoops is one of a kind and we know that the PrimeTime Players will be making some noise in the upcoming TBT.

We have a special treat for all of you college basketball fans. We’ve got our first former Pittsburgh Panther player on the show today! Julius Page drops in and shares his hoops story. We get a great feel for what those bruising Big East battles were like and get caught up on his career after his days at Pitt.     


Page was Ben Howland’s very first recruit at Pittsburgh for a rebuilding program. The left-handed combo guard with an easy 40-inch vertical leap helped put Pittsburgh on the map and had his opponents finding themselves on the wrong side of a highlight. Page was the 2003 Big East Tournament MVP and went on to play professionally in the ABA, CBA, and overseas. We got to hear all about the journey, including some incredible stories about his time playing overseas.      


Julius Page was a joy to have on our show and we can’t thank him enough for his time. He played in our favorite era of Big East hoops and he was a big reason why. Beyond the lockdown defense, exciting highlight reels and basketball in general, we can see why he was a fan favorite and so loved during his 4 years at Pitt.
