In today’s episode, host John Laurito talks with the President of Southeastern University, Dr. Kent Ingle, as they dive deeply into leadership. They talk about Dr. Kent’s journey of leadership from ministry to the academe. He also shares his four-step system of leadership and how it has worked for the university throughout the years.

Dr. Kent Ingle serves as the president of Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. Dr. Ingle has a heart for students. He is passionate about educating and preparing students for Christ-centered leadership and service.

Since Dr. Ingle became the university’s fifteenth president in 2011, the university has seen significant growth. In the fall of 2014, SEU launched the first season of Fire football in its newly completed state-of-the-art football stadium. The College of Natural & Health Sciences Building, featuring a state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab, opened in 2015. In 2016 the Student Activities Center was expanded, and a 120,000-square-foot Live/Learn Facility was opened. Additionally, a 32,000-square-foot Welcome Center and an eight-lane NCAA track and field facility are also in the works.

Under Dr. Ingle's leadership, the university has grown from 2,546 students in 2011 to a current enrollment of more than 8,700 students, with over 112 extension sites and six regional campuses. Before coming to SEU, Dr. Ingle held leadership positions in higher education, pastoral ministry, and the nonprofit sector. He is an expert in leading turnaround organizations and led teams through transformational change in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle.

Dr. Ingle is a founding member of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration. He also currently serves on the Global Leadership Council for Pray.com, a social network for faith organizations and nonprofits. A frequent guest on Fox & Friends, CBSN, and CNN, Dr. Ingle is the author of several works on leadership theory and commentary on the issues relating to higher education.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Ingle spent 10 years as a television sports anchor for NBC and CBS. He covered many professional sports teams and interviewed several notable athletes, including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pete Rose, Muhammad Ali, and Carl Lewis.

Beth also founded and managed two organizations—University Ventures, a consulting operation, and Semantic Staffing, a boutique information management services recruiting firm. She is an active member of several professional organizations and engages with the UMD iLEAD Council and the Corporate Council of the National Archives Foundation.

Beth is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with an MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Beth also holds an MA in History and Public Policy from George Washington University and a BA in History from Washington University. She maintains a strong industry contacts network and is active in several DC-area organizations and nonprofits.

He grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, where he played and coached youth hockey, and moved to Michigan in 1997 to work for Penske Corporation.  Kyle has been actively coaching and managing Michigan youth hockey teams within the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association, the Victory Honda Hockey Association, The Farmington Hills Hockey Association, and the Compuware Hockey Association. Kyle lives in Ann Arbor with his wife, Chris, and their four children.

OfferCraft won the Platinum Award from the G&L Roundtable for the best technology in the gaming industry; was named Startup of the Year by the Best in Biz Awards; was named one of the Top 20 Most Innovative Technologies of 2017; and was profiled in over 200 news stories published in places like The New York Times, Forbes, Quartz, and Business Insider. 

In 2018, he orchestrated the successful sale of OfferCraft to NRT, a Toronto-based FinTech company that processes over $20 billion annually. As part of that deal, Aron agreed to serve as the Chief Marketing Officer at NRT for 18 months and to assist with OfferCraft’s integration into NRT.

Prior to that, Aron was CEO of MacroView Labs, a mobile software startup used by hospitality, travel, healthcare, event, and retail customers. Aron grew MacroView from a tiny startup into a multimillion-dollar software-as-a-service company with millions of users globally and dozens of industry awards. In 2011, he led a successful M&A process that resulted in multiple bids; MacroView was ultimately acquired by Bally Technologies (now part of Scientific Games NASDAQ: SGMS), one of the largest casino and game companies in the world. After that deal, Aron was named VP of Mobile & Interactive at Bally, where he led several major initiatives.

In today’s episode, host John Laurito talks with former Commanding Officer of USS GERALD R. FORD turned Speaker, JJ Cumings, about leadership and what it has been like for him to lead a huge number of people serving in the Navy. He also talks about the importance of feedback and communication in an organization, whether big or small.

Capt. Cummings grew up in Sharon, Massachusetts, graduated from Sharon High School in 1985, and earned a B.A. in physics from Bates College in 1990. In 1986, he enlisted in the Navy Reserves and served as a hospital corpsman attached to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion 25th Marines in Topsham, Maine, until 1991. He completed Aviation Officer Candidate School in November of 1991, earned his wings in October 1993, and completed Fleet Replacement training in the F-14A Tomcat in June 1995.

Ashore, Capt. Cummings served as SURGRAD with the VT-19 “Attack Frogs” and as an F-14 Instructor Pilot with the VF-101 “Grim Reapers,” where he graduated from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor. Additionally, he served in the NATO Logistics Branch at HQ Strategic Allied Command Transformation and as Branch Head for Force Rotation in the Global Force Management Cell at US Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia. He was selected for training in the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program in 2010 and completed nuclear power training in December 2012. In 2016 at Commander Naval Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, he served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for aircraft carrier training, F-35C Air Ship Integration, and Foreign Military Training.

Capt. Cummings served as the Executive Officer of USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) from May 2013 to May 2015 and as the Commanding Officer of USS ANCHORAGE (LPD 23) from September 2015 to December 2016.

He has a Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, where he graduated with Distinction as the President’s Honor Graduate.

Jim Love is 30 years old and was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. Jim attended Marquette University and graduated in 2013 with degrees in Corporate Communications and Marketing. After years of exploring leadership development, Jim has decided to follow a calling and spread his message of authenticity and positivity. He has spoken to several thousand high school students across the country. Bad jokes and dance moves aside, Jim has a passion for leadership development and working with high school and college students. He will share his life experiences and connect with you on a personal and real level. As a lifelong stutterer, he understands what it takes to overcome obstacles and adversity and will motivate the crowd to take on their own obstacles in a real way. His message focuses on authentic leadership, self-love, gratitude, and mental health.  Some say he “brings the party.”

Jim received his start when he was selected for the Illinois Leadership Seminars (ILS) in 2007. This organization is a 3-day seminar that takes one representative from hundreds of high schools around the state and unleashes their leadership potential. Through keynote talks, activities, panel discussions, etc., students are challenged to think differently and accept themselves as a leader. Jim has been on the staff of this organization for 13 years and now is a regular part of the weekend’s programming.
