The Israelites' strategy may appear foolish in human terms, but it clearly illustrates divine wisdom—the reality that true victory comes through reliance on God. 

The Israelites march in unity, each playing their distinct role, and it is an encouragement for our church community to discern how we can collaboratively advance God’s mission. Listeners are encouraged to facilitate prayer and commitment to the church’s shared mission. We’re called into humility and surrender and to ask for God's guidance as we seek to embody His will. We are called to actively participate in God’s unfolding story as we align ourselves with His purpose, trusting His plan and living out our faith together as a community.

After crossing the seemingly impossible flooded Jordan River, the Israelites arrived at the formidable Jericho fortress. It stood as a daunting barrier to the Promised Land, making God's instructions to overcome it seem not only illogical but absurd. 

However, the Israelites' eventual victory wasn't rooted in human strength but in their faith and obedience to God’s Word. The story serves as a reminder of the importance of resting in God’s presence and surrendering our whole hearts to Him. 

As we face our own “walls” and challenges, Rev. Paul invites us to reflect on the characteristics that defined the Israelites: unwavering faith, total surrender, and a commitment to walk in God’s ways. As the Israelites prepare to cross the Jordan River after 40 years of wandering (Joshua 3), we can relate to their feelings of anticipation, faith, and spiritual preparation. It's not uncommon for God to call us into the unknown. However, are we preparing ourselves for that calling? Are we maintaining our focus on His divine presence?

But we can also be reminded that God will always guide us through our rivers. We can even be encouraged to anticipate what He will do in our lives and communities through our obedience.

Stewardship Pt. 1

After wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, the Israelites finally crossed into the Promised Land. But this moment was far more than just crossing the Jordan River; it marked the beginning of a profound journey of faith, anchored in their trust of God's revelation. God desires His people to rely on Him rather than mere methods or strategies. 

How does this powerful narrative highlight the necessity of being a community that seeks and depends on God's presence?

As we, too, embark on our own crossover season as a church, how can we collectively invite and glorify God in our lives and ministries? We're called to remember God's unwavering faithfulness and to share our testimonies with future generations, ensuring His goodness and grace are known and celebrated in our community.

In Luke 10, Jesus appoints 72 individuals for his mission. The passage reveals not only the ample opportunities for spiritual harvest but also highlights the necessity for laborers to fulfill this calling. Their immediate response to Jesus' call serves as a compelling example for us, showcasing that knowing the character and voice of the Lord empowers us to step out in faith, even when faced with uncertainty and challenges.

We can reflect on the simple nature of Jesus' instructions and how He sent the 72 as 'lambs amid wolves'—a reminder that following Him does not come without risk. Thus, dependence on God amidst vulnerability is transformed into strength. The instruction to "carry no money bag, no knapsack, no sandals " illustrates dependence on divine provision, allowing us to focus on the mission at hand rather than on personal security.

Rejoicing should stem from our identities as children of God, with our names written in heaven. It's an invitation to live fully and boldly in our faith, to embrace the reality of our calling as agents of God's kingdom on Earth.

Listeners are challenged to consider their response to God's call in their own lives—is it a small faith rooted in comfort or an expansive faith that embraces the unknown for God's glory? The choice is presented with urgency; living a life that reflects the grandeur of God’s love and His mission is an opportunity we should not take lightly.
