Throughout the 90s, Disney made big bucks with animated musicals. In 1990, they released a high-quality adventure film that promised a different direction. The 1990 versions of Jordan and Nic loved that movie. The rest of the world ignored it...and its massive flop in the cinematic ocean ensured decades of Disney musicals that haunt our dreams. But for this one episode, we hope we gave 1990s Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, its due. If we did not, at least we got to get corkscrew deep into duck anatomy. We also talk Jetsons: The Movie, from that same year. We don't have as much nice stuff to say about that movie.

Well, Mr. Sarris might have been a purveyor of auteur theory, but he's also a purveyor of being wrong. 25-years-later, in a deep conversation that dissects this misunderstood Nic Cage gem like never before, Jordan and Nic reassess 8mm and find themselves at great odds with the 1999 critical establishment. But then they watch the punishment film, The Other Sister, and find that some of the time, maybe those critics were right.

Will Smith, Gene Hackman, and a Pentagon-full of well-regarded and beloved actors star in this cinematic exploration of government overreach into private citizens' privacy, and also, Jason Lee makes a brilliant exclamation about untoward things being done to a duck. Rather fittingly, yet for no good reason, Jordan and Nic approach this film as off the leash as Jon Voight with a free government pass, like this movie is the lingerie store from this movie. Two words: Nic Cage. Has there ever been two other words in the history of language that could contain the multitudes that these words represent? Maybe when the ancients were building the tower of Babel and the world's language was confused, there remained slivers of the pure language that contained the secrets to the universe. It's like Nic Cage knew this, changing his name from Nicolas Coppola to Nicolas Cage (after his favorite Marvel character Luke Cage). He knew he'd need to hold back that purity (put it in a Cage, if you will), because otherwise we would have built a tower to Heaven with the ridiculousness and awesomeness that is his filmography.

Maybe it can still get us there. Like to Baby-O in Con Air, Nic is here to show us that, yes, God does exist, and He loves Nic Cage.

That's good. Because we do too!

Between all these films covered, you'd have enough blue smoke, prosthetic makeup, and K-Y jelly to choke a xenomorph! Honestly, you could do that with just one of these films, but still. Lots of atmosphere here in these parts, be it wacky or just downright dystopian. The Harrison Ford love-fest also continues strong, but which movies will be chosen? From possibly the finest year in film comes 95-minutes of cinematic  spit up. 1999's Baby Geniuses defies all convention and standards of decency for so many loads of diaper gravy, Jordan and Nic can do nothing but have fun with this bizarrely poop-obsessed patron request. Speaking of babies, our two Baby Geniuses-surviving hosts also talk 1993's straight-to-video baby dinosaur romp, Prehysteria!, for a few minutes, though this punishment film feels like Citizen Kane next to Baby Geniuses, the Citizen Kane of crap.

The Ultimate Love/Skate Relationship might just be between Jordan and Nic, as they rather fittingly have a rather fiery argument about the 1992 romantic comedy, The Cutting Edge. One host thinks this film about bickering figure skaters who fall in love is the best romantic comedy he's ever seen, while the other just thinks it's a rambling, mediocre mess. Will our hosts reconcile by the end to win the gold, or will their anger boil over into an ice-melting inferno?!
They also talk about not only 2006's straight to DVD sequel, The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold, but the The Cutting Edge 3 and The Cutting Edge 4...because one of them watched both of those too for some reason.

Here's the sitch: this episode, Filmshake's covering 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer...the movie, not the TV show, NIC!
To kick things off, Nic reports on his punishment film, the 1993 Cory Haim comedy Just One of the Girls, where Haim dresses up like a cheerleader to evade his high school bullies. We then naturally segue into more cheerleading and back to some bloodsucking with Buffy. Listen, as Jordan chides Nic continually for talking about the TV show and not the movie, while Nic can't quite escape the looming spectre of Joss Whedon. And we're covering 1993's True Romance, directed by Tony Scott and written by, apparently the man who killed Nic's dog, Quentin Tarantino. If you were around in the 25th Frame days, you know what you're in for. If you weren't, and you love Quentin Tarantino like Alabama loves Clarence, then just listen to our Broken Arrow  episode again. That one was pretty good.

Meanwhile, Jordan reports back on Tony Scott's 1983 debut, The Hunger, before the duo dive into the aforementioned True Romance, in which Jordan loves Christian Slater like Slater loves Elvis. Somebody's got to be the voice of reason!

Filmshake could never find time for love. It's too heavy. It's an anchor that drowns a man. Besides, we've got the sky, the smell of jet exhaust, and our bike...which we own. We've also got our good friend, Doug McCambridge, from the stellar Good Times Great Movies, to talk with us about the classic 1991 spoof, Hot Shots! That exclamation point might be in the title, but we're so excited, we would have used it anyway!

Yes, we've fallen for Hot Shots! like a blind roofer.  Our heart is falling down around our ankles like a wet pair of pants. We also talk about Grizzly 2: Revenge for a few minutes at the start, and try to figure out if it is real, or just a fever dream we had.  Even if your ear canals are very sensitive because they're stainless steel after you took a bullet at Corregidor in 1945, you're not gonna want to miss this one.

In this episode, we cover 1995's Mortal Kombat, 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and 2021's Mortal Kombat, which totally ripped off the title of the first film. Yes, "FILM" because these movies are cinema of the highest or lowest order.
SHRIEK IN DELIGHT as Jordan recalls every plot point of '95's Mortal Kombat down to the most minute detail. How has he not named any of his children "Raiden?" Or at the least, "Lambert?"
GASP as Nic fails to recall even the most basic plots from any of these films, even though he watched them each twice, immediately before we recorded this episode. Should he go to the doctor?
CRY when the episode ends...then WIPE YOUR TEARS AWAY with the magical Kleenex of listening to the episode again...OR SUFFER A FATALITY!

Also, Jordan and Nic have an EPIC FIGHT to close the episode. Can Jordan tell the difference between real Mortal Kombat characters and fake ones Nic made up while on a Chocodile bender? In August of this year, Nic decided Filmshake should watch 1995's Congo, so the show could have a tribute episode to author, Michael Crichton. But "this year" is 2020, and things did...not go as expected. Why the hell does Nic hate Congo so much? Why does Jordan love Congo so much? Does Congo have naked pictures of Jordan? Did Congo murder Nic's father?
Rationality goes out the window in the most ridiculous, lowstakes 90-minute argument in history. Also, the two try to talk about 1998's Sphere, but everything keeps coming up Congo.
There's also the usual episode ending trivia battle, but somebody doesn't even try this time.
