She always knew that Auburn was the school for her, and she’s been an excellent addition to our nursing program. In this episode we discuss what it’s like to be a nursing student during a worldwide pandemic. We also discuss Black History Month and the nurses of color who have inspired her along her journey. DeAsha bravely shares her experience as a student of color and gives some wisdom to other students from underrepresented groups. We are so excited to see how DeAsha enhances the nursing profession, and grateful that she trusted Auburn to prepare her for her promising career!

#12 | Student Spotlight with Anne Nelson

Anne has always known two things; she loves to dance, and she wants to be a nurse. Both of those ideas were challenged the summer after her freshman year of college when she suffered severe damage to her spinal cord and was told that her prognosis was “unknown.” Anne hasn’t let that stop her from continuing on the journey towards her two greatest passions. She is quite an inspiration. We know you’ll love this episode!

World AIDS Day is December 1st, and we thought we’d observe it by interviewing Mr. Keith Matthews and Mrs. Sandy Fagen of the Unity Wellness Center, a local AIDS Service Organization (ASO). In this episode we cover a lot of ground. We talk about treatment options for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. We expose myths about the chronic condition. We discuss how to support individuals living with the disease, and we even talk about steps for getting help if you think you might’ve been exposed to the virus. The prognosis of people living with HIV/AIDS has changed a lot since the 1980’s, and we want to celebrate that! We hope you enjoy this episode.

Dean Gregg Newschwander has been a nurse for over four decades and in that time he’s served as a clinician, teacher, and an administrator.
