The Rev Professor June Boyce-Tillman MBE is an international performer, composer, workshop leader and keynote speaker.  She is an Emerita Professor of Applied Music at Winchester University and an Extra-ordinary Professor at North West University, South Africa.  She has published widely in the area of education and music, often on spirituality/liminality and eudaimonia.  Her doctoral research into children’s musical development has been translated into five languages and supported the development of improvisatory activities in the classroom. She has written about and organised events in the area of interfaith dialogue using music including the international improvising Peace Choir on Zoom.

She has held visiting fellowships at Indiana University and the Episcopal Divinity School in Massachusetts, US. She is an international performer, especially in the work of Hildegard of Bingen. Her large scale works for cathedrals such as Winchester, Southwark and Norwich UK involve professional musicians, community choirs, people with disabilities and school children. She lectures internationally and is concerned with wellbeing, spirituality and radical musical inclusion culturally and personally. Her first book on music and spirituality was published in 2000 - Constructing Musical Healing – The wounds that sing  (Jessica Kingsley).

She is currently editing the series on Music and Spirituality for Peter Lang which includes her book, Experiencing Music-Restoring the Spiritual; Music as Wellbeing, the edited collection Queering Freedom: Music, Identity and Spirituality: Perspectives from Ten Countries and her autobiography Freedom Song: Faith, Abuse, Music and Spirituality: A Lived Experience. Both operas employ singers from many vocal traditions, not only operatic.

In 2012 Jenni founded Vocal Tai Chi – a ‘voice unclassified’ workshop for creative expression, therapeutic and spiritual healing. Vocal Tai Chi is “moving voice between heaven and earth”.

In 2015 she founded The Improvisers’ Choir. Jenni conducts the improvisers using special hand signals.

She studied classical singing until the mid-1960s when, ripe and ready for revolution, she became involved in the radical left in London and eventually feminism. Wanting something spiritual again she met Tibetan lamas in 1976, in Australia, and received ordination as a monastic eighteen months later, in Kathmandu.

Robina’s life, as well as her work with prisoners, have been featured in the documentary films Chasing Buddha and Key to Freedom. A CD of her singing prayers and mantras, Devotion, in collaboratoin with Yantra de Vilder, was produced in 2017.

Barbara Borden, drummer, performer, composer and teacher, began drumming at age ten. Borden’s diverse artistic and musical interests have led her to record and perform with a variety of bands and individual artists. For eight years she toured and recorded with Alive! – the all women jazz quintet. Then, onto a ten-year run of her highly acclaimed solo piece – She Dares to Drum, a percussion play. And two original recordings…All Hearts Beating and Beauty in the Beat, her premiere solo recording.

Barbara loves sharing the benefits of drumming with others, teaching drumkit, West African djembe and ceremonial drumming to groups and individuals. For fifteen years she taught the art of drumming to the elders at the Redwoods Retirement Community in Mill Valley, CA, each participant leaving the hour-long sessions happier than when they arrived.

Currently, Borden is the subject of the documentary, BARBARA BORDEN: KEEPER OF THE BEAT – A Woman’s Journey into the Heart of Drumming by Emmy-award winning filmmaker David L. Brown. She is also performing World on Fire, a poetry, theatre, music piece about climate disruption with Naomi Newman, Actress (A Traveling Jewish Theatre) and Susanne DiVincenzo, Bass & Cello (Alive!).

Barbara has traveled the globe practicing drumbeat diplomacy. Performing in the former Yugoslavia during civil war in 1994, Barbara brought comfort and joy to refugees through the universal language of the drum. In Zimbabwe (Africa), Barbara drummed in airports, market places and healing rituals led by the African healer, Mandaza Kandemwa. In Siberia, Borden was initiated more deeply into the healing ways of the shamans by Tatiana Kobezhikova.

Barbara is dedicated to keeping the heartbeat of joy, compassion, and creativity alive. She continues to be deeply moved by the powerful nature of drumming with its universal language that unifies, inspires, soothes and enlivens individuals and diverse groups of people around the globe.

Malcolm Stern has worked as a group and individual psychotherapist for more than 30 years. He is Co-Director and Co-founder of Alternatives at St James’ Church in London and runs groups internationally.

His approach involves finding where the heart is and helping individuals access their truth. His London One Year Group is the centrepiece of his work and has been successfully operating since 1990. In it he creates an environment of trust, integrity and community, where participants can become skilled in relationships, communication and managing difficult conversations. The ultimate learning is to Slay your dragons with compassion, which is also the title of his new book to be published by Watkins in September 2020.

Andrew’s book about that experience, Journey in Ladakh, won the Christmas Humphries Award.

In 1984, Andrew began a life-long exploration and explication of Rumi and Sufi mysticism. Andrew has written three books on that subject: The Way of Passion, The Celebration of Rumi and Perfume of the Desert, an anthology of Sufi mysticism.

After authoring more than 30 books, Andrew is releasing what may be his consummate work, Turn Me to Gold: 108 Poems of Kabir.
