The case of the Long Island Serial Killer went unsolved for more than a decade. In December 2010 near Gilgo Beach on Ocean Drive, a shocking discovery - the badly decomposed bodies of four women were found, each wrapped in burlap.

Victims: Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes would become known as the Gilgo Four.

The case first started as a missing persons case of 24 year old Shannon Gilbert who was an escort from New Jersey. She disappeared after a out-call with a man in Oak Beach, near Gilgo. Her remains were discovered in 2011.

In 2023 an arrest in the case. 59 year old architect from Manhattan Rex Heuermann was arrested for three of the four murders. 

Prosecutors say a combination of DNA evidence, cell tower data and witness descriptions made him the prime suspect in at least three of the Long Island killings known as the Gilgo Beach murders.

His toddler daughter Bexley was in the back seat of his SUV as he approached the one-way road leaving the subdivision. Suddenly he noticed it was blocked with a tire.

When Jared went to move the tire he was ambushed and executed in front of his daughter.

Since his senseless murder Jared's ex wife Shanna Gardner, her husband Mario Saldana and the confessed hired hit-man Henry Tennon were all arrested  and charged in his murder.

The Manson Murders remain a life sentence for family and friends of the victim’s. Tate is an outspoken victim’s right’s advocate and runs a website to keep other living Manson Family members from being paroled. 

In 2017 Cult Leader Charles Manson died behind bars of natural causes. He was 83.

On July 14, 2009 McGill was drinking heavily in Cabo San Lucas. He reportedly drank half a bottle of tequila and a six pack of beer. After he boarded the ship passengers heard screaming coming from his stateroom.

We would later learn that McGill had beaten his wife and strangled her.  Other passengers would find him on the upper deck smoking a cigar after the murder.

On November 19, 2016, Rogers' father Tommy Ballard who was investigating the case of his daughter, was shot and killed on family property near Bluegrass Parkway in Bardstown, Kentucky. His death is also unsolved.

Crystal's mother tells host Matt Johnson in a new interview, there has been a suspect named in  her daughters disappearance, but no arrest in the case and Crystals body has never been found.

Recently NEW INFORMATION: The FBI has done more DNA testing on her car and police have conducted new searches of the area.

Michael's daughter Jenn Carson believes there are more victim's out there and is speaking out to help shed light on the case and help others.

In March 1981, 23-year-old Keryn Barnes, an aspiring actress was found dead inside her apartment. She was stabbed 13 times and her skull crushed before being wrapped in a blanket and thrown into the basement. The Carson's later confessed to the murder saying that they believed Keryn was a witch.

In May 1982, Michael shot and killed Clark Stephens, a co-worker at a pot farm in Humboldt County. The couple burned and buried his body and burned the grave site. They told police they believed that Stephens was a devil. His skull was later recovered by a dog and sparked the Murder Mountain legend.

In January 1983, 30-year-old Jon Charles Hellyer was stabbed by Suzan and shot and killed by Michael in broad daylight at a fruit stand in Sonoma County. Afterward Carson stole Hellyers truck and led police on a high speed chase.

Then in the Summer of 2008, Christine decided to visit friends living in Portland Oregon. From there she met new friends, self proclaimed spiritual environmental activists living off the grid. Christine followed her new friends to Arcata California, a small old logging town just outside Eureka CA.

It is unclear what happened to her while she was there. Some say she was working at a marijuana grow farm and was owed money, others say she had taken part in a so-called 'tea ceremony' and ingested hallucinogens which led to a bad trip.

On November 12, 2008, then 23-year-old college junior Christine Lindsey Walters was found naked, confused, frightened and bleeding, covered in scratches. She was on a stranger's doorstep and claiming someone was after her.
Police took her to the hospital. The next day Christine called her mother in Wisconsin who faxed over a copy of her identification so that she could board an airplane home.
After picking up her I.D. she was never seen again.

Christine Walters would now be 35. At the time of her disappearance she was described as 5'2", 100-115 pounds, caucasian with strawberry blonde hair. Her ears and nose are pierced and she has a black butterfly tattoo on her hip and a green and purple iris flower tattoo on the back of her neck.

On August 31, 2003, New Mexico State University College student Katie was walking home after going to a party near campus. She had gotten into a big fight with her long-distance boyfriend.

While walking home, the suspect Gabriel Avila [who was on drugs] almost hit Katie with his car, then followed her home where he attacked her and strangled her.

The next day Katie's roommate called police to report her missing. Katie's body was found partially burned at the Las Cruces Landfill.

Despite  DNA evidence in the case, it would be three years before Katie's killer would be arrested and charged for murder.

He would have been caught three months after her death had his DNA been run.

Since her death, Katie's mother and father have made it their mission to help others and pass 'Katie's Law' in all 50 states to prevent violent criminals from killing innocent people.

]]> Jayann Sepich Buzzsprout-5221144 Mon, 31 Aug 2020 03:00:00 -0400 2081 Murder, Mystery, New Mexico, Mom, DNA, Missing, Sepich, Law, Case, Prison 2 full true 29 - MURDER: Elvis killed at Las Vegas 'Graceland' Mansion 29 - MURDER: Elvis killed at Las Vegas 'Graceland' Mansion Well known Elvis tribute artist Dana Mackay and his beauty queen girlfriend Mary Huffman were murdered inside their Las Vegas mansion.

Dana headlined at the Dunes casino before moving to the Imperial Palace where he was the first Elvis to star in 'Legends in Concert'. He was a father and looking to leave the spotlight and start a landscaping business, supplying high dollar palm trees to the city of Las Vegas. Mary was a mother and former Mrs. Nevada.

On October 30, 1993, Las Vegas Metro Police were asked to do a welfare check on Mackay after family and friends had not heard from the couple in days. When police arrived to the mansion named 'mini Graceland', the door was open, groceries were all over the floor and Dana and Mary were dead in a pool of blood.

Police say the two were murdered, shot at close range multiple times.

At first, Metro police thought the couple may have walked in on a 'burglary in process', however friends say nothing was taken from the home. Dana's best friend Danny Koker (of Pawn Stars, Counting Cars) says Dana always carried a file with him. The file was stolen the day of the murder. It's unclear what was inside.

At the time of the murders, Dana had been in the middle of a legal dispute with his former landscaping business partner.

No suspects have been arrested, no persons of interest have ever been named in the case.

Dana headlined at the Dunes casino before moving to the Imperial Palace where he was the first Elvis to star in 'Legends in Concert'. He was a father and looking to leave the spotlight and start a landscaping business, supplying high dollar palm trees to the city of Las Vegas. Mary was a mother and former Mrs. Nevada.

On October 30, 1993, Las Vegas Metro Police were asked to do a welfare check on Mackay after family and friends had not heard from the couple in days. When police arrived to the mansion named 'mini Graceland', the door was open, groceries were all over the floor and Dana and Mary were dead in a pool of blood.

Police say the two were murdered, shot at close range multiple times.

At first, Metro police thought the couple may have walked in on a 'burglary in process', however friends say nothing was taken from the home. Dana's best friend Danny Koker (of Pawn Stars, Counting Cars) says Dana always carried a file with him. The file was stolen the day of the murder. It's unclear what was inside.

At the time of the murders, Dana had been in the middle of a legal dispute with his former landscaping business partner.

No suspects have been arrested, no persons of interest have ever been named in the case.

Five years after he went missing Jack 'Don' Lewis was declared legally dead and Carole inherited $5 Million in cash and assets including the 'Wildlife on Easy Street', renamed 'Big Cat Rescue' that she still owns and operates with now husband Howard Baskin.

This episode explores the disappearance with new interviews and new information in the case.

A poor reading and the person is a demon or a zombie. Lori believed she was a reincarnated God sent to the planet to help prepare for the second coming.

In July 2019 Lori's brother, Alex Cox, shot and killed her estranged husband Charles Vallow . Cox claimed self defense after Vallow allegedly came at him with a baseball bat. Cox died of a blood clot in his lung in December of 2019.

At the time, Chad was married to Tammy Daybell, a 49-year-old school librarian who helped him run his small publishing company.

Tammy Daybell died in October, two weeks later Lori and Chad married and moved to Hawaii.

On March 26, 2004 Lawrence Colwell Jr. was executed by way of lethal injection at Nevada State Prison in Carson City Nevada. He was the first inmate to be executed after a moratorium on executions.

Colwell was dead within 20 minutes of the injection. John Huck and I both covered the days leading up to the execution and the night it happened.

On December 14, 1985 Gary and Stephanie were brutally murdered with a hatchet in their home. The same hatchet used to trim the Christmas tree.

The bodies were discovered by police the next day.

An autopsy showed the killer(s) returned to the home and stabbed the bodies to make sure they were dead. 

Police say there were no signs of forced entry and have collected several items into evidence including fingerprints, possible DNA, the knife and the hatchet.

In June, 1986 a Deputy Constable who knew the couple was arrested on two counts murder. But, the following year the case was dismissed for lack of evidence.

The victim's daughter met with him as an adult. She talks about the case, missing her father and her message to her father and step-mother's killer.

He hit her over the head with a gun, dragged her into her van and duct tapped her wrists and ankles.

The victim was able to get free after jumping from the moving van. The kidnapping suspect is also the suspect in several area bank robberies.

Swoboda has a long criminal past including arrests for DUI and bank robbery. HIs Mother said he suffered from depression and had mental issues. 

Portland Police tell Matt Johnson that more victims could be out there. Swoboda was shot and killed in a shootout with police in March of 2014. On his body, police found a note listing women he stalked, listing how beautiful they were, if they were alone, and where he first watched them.

]]> Fugitive Kelly Vern Mark Swoboda stalked and kidnapped a 23-year-old woman working at a tanning salon. He hit her over the head with a gun, dragged her into her van and duct tapped her wrists and ankles.

The victim was able to get free after jumping from the moving van. The kidnapping suspect is also the suspect in several area bank robberies.

Swoboda has a long criminal past including arrests for DUI and bank robbery. HIs Mother said he suffered from depression and had mental issues. 

Portland Police tell Matt Johnson that more victims could be out there. Swoboda was shot and killed in a shootout with police in March of 2014. On his body, police found a note listing women he stalked, listing how beautiful they were, if they were alone, and where he first watched them.

Years later, a boyfriend would be arrested for murdering his girlfriend during her birthday celebration cruise on the same ship.

After Garner was arrested he pled guilty to rape and murder and led authorities to Amber's remains located on PALA Tribal land.

John Albert Gardner III is serving two life terms in prison for the rape and murder of Chelsea King and Amber Dubois.

She was elected to State Assembly, State Senate and became the first woman to be elected as State Controller.

In 2002, her 17 year marriage to her third husband Charles Augustine was rocky. Kathy's political career was taking a toll on their marriage and the couple was separated.

Kathy was looking to get a divorce and was purchasing a house in Reno Nevada, closer to the state capital, her husband Charles was living in their large Las Vegas home.

In 2003, Charles suffered a stroke and was rushed to nearby Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas.

While Charles was receiving care, Kathy sparked a friendship with one of her husbands critical care nurses Chaz Higgs.

Three weeks after meeting Chaz, Kathy's husband had died and Kathy inherited the homes, and was the beneficiary of a $1 Million life insurance policy.

After her husbands funeral, Kathy and Chaz went to Hawaii and got married.

In 2004 as Kathy was being considered a finalist for the office of U.S. Treasurer by the George W. Bush administration, she became under investigation for campaign ethics violations in Nevada.

This led to Kathy's removal from consideration and her impeachment in Nevada.

As Kathy was launching a come-back election campaign for role as State Treasurer, she died suddenly, under suspicious circumstances.

An F.B.I. toxicology report would lead to a murder investigation.

Jeanette Maria Corpuz was 28 when she went missing from Reno Nevada in the winter of 2003.
After large amounts of blood and evidence was recovered at her home, police called her disappearance a homicide.

Jeanette Corpuz is described as 5'6", 160 pounds, Hispanic/White with Brown hair and Blue eyes.
She was a newlywed with three children from a previous marriage. She was living with her new husband Lyle Montgomery and her 3-year-old son Jacob Corpuz when she disappeared.

The couple met while working at a Super Kmart store where he was the pharmacy  manager and she was a check-out clerk.

In October of 2002 Jeanette reported her then boyfriend, was abusive and threatened to kill her in the couples shared apartment.

Her son would later tell police his stepfather (Lyle) pointed a gun at his mother and fired the weapon into the master-bedroom nightstand.

In December 2002, Jeanette and Lyle married at a Reno Chapel despite their problems and 14 year age difference.

On January 13, 2003, Jeanette met with a realtor at her home and told her she and her son, was moving to Redding California and she was getting a divorce.

Later that week she called her ex-husband (who had custody of their two other children). But he was not alarmed by anything she said.

She was last seen by someone at a neighborhood grocery store and never seen again.

On January 25th, Jeanette's son Jacob is found abandoned in the toy department of a Shopko store in the Salt Lake City area, about 520 miles away.

A man was spotted on security camera walking in with the boy and leaving without him.

Lyle Montgomery would later be identified and charged for child abuse.

When police went to question Lyle they discovered he had overdosed on sleeping pills and alcohol. He was taken to a hospital. At that time police found several guns and ammunition near Lyle on the floor.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home and discovered blood throughout the home. In the master bedroom blood had pooled and soaked through the carpet and padding through to the wooden flooring beneath. The bed, dresser and other items of furniture were missing.

Police searched Lyles home and a storage unit but did not locate Jeanette's body.

At a bail hearing police detectives testified they believed that Lyle killed his wife and dumped her body.

Still, his bail was reduced from $2.5 Million to $150,000 and he released, assigned to house arrest. He moved in with his friend who was an armed security guard.

On April 8th, shortly after release, Lyle Montgomery shot and killed himself with his roommates gun. Jeanette's body was never found.

Her children live with their biological father in California.

Joseph and Summer McStay had just moved to their new home in Fallbrook with their two small boys Gianni (4) and Joseph Jr. (3).

Summer is a realtor and Joseph owns a construction company building fountains and water features.

On February 4, 2010 the families while SUV is caught on camera pulling from the driveway, but because of the angle of the camera you cannot see who is behind the wheel.

Joseph's business partner Charles "Chase" Merritt called the McStay's family members after he could not get ahold of the family.

On February 13, Joseph's brother Michael travels to San Diego and discovers the families dogs in the backyard and what appears to be a house left in a hurry. There were eggs on the counter, popcorn bowls on the couch and the stroller was still in the garage.

Days later the family car is located at a shopping center near the San Ysidro border crossing. That's when the San Diego County Sheriff's Office releases a grainy video that appears to be a family crossing the border.

In 2013 a off-road motor-cross rider discovered the shallow graves in Victorville CA. The McStay family was buried in carpet from the house and a sledge hammer believed to be used in the murders.

Kyron Hormon went missing from Skyline Elementary School in Portland Oregon USA, on June 4th, 2010. His step-mother Terri Horman took him to school that day, snapped a picture of him at his school science fair and then he disappeared without a trace.

His case is still considered by-far the largest criminal investigation case in Oregon state history.

Kyron's mother Desiree Young says she is using new technology and getting new tips that she feels will lead to a resolution in the case very soon. On the ninth anniversary of his disappearance she held a tearful news conference where she shared new details.

Before the news conference she spoke exclusively to True Crime Deadline host Matt Johnson who spent years covering the case.

"I love you Kyron, I miss you, I will never give up, I will never stop," said Desiree to True Crime Deadline podcast.

Young says after nine years she still believes Kyron is in the Portland metro area.

"I believe that he is still in Portland, I believe that Terri is a horrible person, and most likely did something horrible that day. But, I have to keep looking for him until I find out otherwise," Young said.

Kyron's step-mother Terri Horman has never been charged or named a suspect in the case. She has appeared on many national shows.

Terri says on June 4, 2010 she watched Kyron walk down the hall to his first class, however he never made it to class and he was marked as absent for the day.

After Terri says she left the school, she told investigators that she went to Fred Meyer Store, Drove her baby around to to help the infant fall asleep, went to the gym ad then posted pictures of Kyron on Facebook.

When Terri and Kaine Horman when to pick Kyron up from the bus stop, he was not there. Terri called the school and the school secretary called police.

Kyron's case has had many unbelievable twists and turns over the past nine years. Including allegations of Terri Horman hiring a landscaper to allegedly kill Kaine. Police were never able to substantiate those claims and no charges were ever brought against Terri.

Terri also reportedly failed two lie-detector tests and Kaine obtained a restraining order against her.

"This case has been featured on Oprah, Dr. Phil, newscasts around the country and everyone is galvanized by this case and this little boy," said former KPTV reporter Jaime Wilson.

Kyron Horman was 7 years old when he went missing in 2010. Kyron Richard Horman is described as a Caucasian male, light brown hair and blue eyes. Kyron wore glasses and was on the smaller side when he went missing. He is described as shy with a big warm smile.
