She became Canadian ballroom champion at the age of 16 and went on to find a passion for and calling in the entertainment industry. As you’ll hear in this episode, throughout her career she has danced with and taught, many many famous actors, singers, and dancers including the one and only Jennifer Lopez. I had to remind myself when Katya was talking about Jennifer, that it was in fact the Jennifer Lopez! Katya was also part of the cast BBC's Strictly Come Dancing for three years, before going on to produce and star in her own tour production performing in over 80 theatres across The UK.

After the birth of her first son and moving with her family to Hong Kong, Katya, in her own words, truly found her calling. While looking for dance classes for her son, she came up with the idea of BallroomBees - a fun and friendly way for kids to connect through dance, music, and play. BallroomBees’ mission is to empower, enrich and educate children through the world of ballroom dancing. They aim to provide a safe environment for children to develop motor skills, a sense of self and social skills - all things that are essential in building confidence and fostering a deep sense of respect for their peers.

Katya has seen for herself the incredible influence that dancing can have on young children, and has developed the BallroomBees program especially to help introduce children to the wonderful world of Ballroom Dancing.

Katya and I had such fun recording this episode together talking about her incredible career, dancing and acting, and of course Ballroom Bees.

Thank you so much, Katya! ❤️❤️

Katya -
IG: https://www.instagram.com/katyavirshilas/

Ballroom Bees -
Website: https://www.ballroombees.com/
IG: https://www.instagram.com/ballroombees/

My Social Media -
Cissy: https://www.instagram.com/cissrad/
In The Changing Room: https://www.instagram.com/inthechangingroompod

Ziggy is a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor with a background in psychology and life coaching. Ziggy is a mother to two boys, and prior to her first pregnancy, her fitness focus was mainly on strength & conditioning, body composition, and body transformations. After the birth of her first son in 2016, Ziggy's passion turned towards true Women's Wellness and Pre- and Post-Natal Fitness. She went on to become a Certified Pre and Post Natal Coach in 2018.

Ziggy’s work helps to prepare women for labour, childbirth and the postpartum period. A comparison she uses is: you wouldn’t just rock up to a marathon or even a 100m sprint without any prior training, and labour and childbirth are also physical, emotional and mental events.

In this episode, Ziggy shares her personal pregnancy journeys and focuses quite a bit on the early postpartum period which Ziggy states is much more demanding than childbirth. We also talk about the myth of ‘bouncing back’ after you give birth, when is the right time to get active again, how do you know what’s right for you. Ziggy explains how bodies are much more than what they ever were because they have brought a new life into the world!

Thank you, Ziggy for sharing so candidly!

Ziggy -
IG: https://www.instagram.com/zig.fitmama/
Website - https://www.zigfitmama.com/
Mom Body Soul Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/hk/podcast/mom-body-soul-podcast/id1519962345?l=en

My Social Media -
Cissy: https://www.instagram.com/cissrad/
In The Changing Room: https://www.instagram.com/inthechangingroompod

Now, for Season 2 . he has created ‘Awkward Turtle At Work’ - an interview-style podcast that talks to people who choose to pursue a passion career rather than a ‘conventional job’. The aim is to use these stories to celebrate differences and diversity in the workplace.

I have SO much time for Emery, and am so grateful that he came on the podcast to talk all things gender.

Emery -
IG: https://www.instagram.com/efung94/
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/emeryfung
Website: https://www.awkwardturtlepod.page
Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/10gEJ3BvFLx9cVcETmMjcN?si=U_xCLJdaTlGkoInfMGWXUg&dl_branch=1

My Social Media -
Cissy: https://www.instagram.com/cissrad/
In The Changing Room: https://www.instagram.com/inthechangingroompod

He is passionate about using sport for social change, specifically creating safe spaces for members of the LGBT+ community to engage in sport and tackling homophobia and transphobia across all levels of sport.

In this episode, we predominantly discuss the inclusion of transgender athletes in women's sport. This topic is in the news a lot at the moment, particularly because New Zealand's Laurel Hubbard has just become the first transgender athlete picked to compete at an Olympics games. Hubbard's involvement is seen as controversial for several reasons and tends to divide the public in two, with one half arguing Hubbard has an unfair advantage, and others excited for more inclusion at the Games. Dr Ryan Storr breaks down some of the facts and misconceptions and tells us that transgender athletes competing in women's sports are not the biggest threat to women's sport.

I think it's a fantastic debate. Prior to this, Lyndsey enjoyed exercise but never felt there was a space for her. She says that not being naturally athletic meant she was left out of a lot of team sports. As Lyndsey got older, she became, as she describes, a fair-weather gym bunny. She felt the pressure to lose weight and went to the gym solely for that reason. As she says, “I wasn’t there to celebrate my body, I was there out of shame – I was there to shrink myself”.

However, in this episode we discuss what Lyndsey came to realise: ALL bodies are good bodies, you must BE KIND to yourself, and we should celebrate WHAT our bodies can DO, not HOW they LOOK!!!

I hope you enjoy what Lyndsey has to say in this episode!

🥳🥳🥳 HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021! 🥳🥳🥳

For my first episode of 2021, I was lucky enough to sit down with the AMAZING Mui Thomas! Mui is a rugby referee and a yoga instructor described online as being strong, charismatic, and capable. She was the winner of the 2016 Spirit of Hong Kong award - the highest public award in Hong Kong. She has also just recently been selected in the top 32 unstoppable women in rugby campaign headed by Asia Rugby.

Mui is also a pretty special referee and yoga instructor - that’s because she is the world's first rugby umpire and yoga instructor living with Harlequin Ichthyosis, a rare genetic skin disorder. As a result of her condition, Mui and her parents set up 'The Girl Behind The Face' - an initiative to help educate people on the disorder.

I LOVED this interview with Fiona Callanan!

Fiona is a lawyer, a yoga instructor, a TEDx speaker, and a speaker coach. Fiona is also an advocate for living life to the fullest, and this is in part due to a life-changing tragedy she endured in her late 20s. In 2004, Fiona was a 27-year old corporate lawyer who was working abroad in Thailand. She felt the most liberated she had ever felt – she was working her dream job, living in an exciting part of the world, and traveling to places on her bucket list. When the tsunami hit Thailand, Fiona survived, but she lost her bottom right leg. In this episode, Fiona talks about the transformative journey yoga has taken her on. Her practice started in 2015 shortly after she returned to work from her second maternity leave and it quickly brought tremendous benefits to her. Physically it opened her to a world of possibilities that she never imagined she would achieve. But most importantly it has also enabled her to make changes in all other areas of her life for the better – bringing her to a place of freedom and joy today that before she began her yoga practice she did not know was possible. In this episode, Fiona and I discuss limitations being in your mind and not your body, having the courage and the will to do terrifying things, how connected and similar human beings really are, and the importance of community.

I hope you feel as inspired as I did after this interview. Thank you, Fiona.

Fiona's TED Talk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRirte8mIWc
Fiona teaches yoga at - https://www.thepracticegroup.com/
Fiona has a website coming soon...

🥳🥳🥳 HELLO HELLO SEASON 2!!! 🥳🥳🥳
I'm back with an extra-long episode to make up for my hiatus!

The first guest of Season 2 is Emily Tan! Emily is a fitness expert and entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience in the wellness industry as a performer, practitioner, and teacher. She is considered a major figure in the fitness world, having appeared on TV shows and featured in magazines including CosmoBody. Emily has been described as someone who lives to constantly challenge her physical strength and endurance. However, no business, fitness, and nutrition training in her professional years could have prepared her for the news she received in April 2018. Emily was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and in December of the same year, she underwent a bone marrow transplant that kept her in the hospital for 39 days. Forced to confront her new reality, she dropped all her professional commitments and took time out for herself, spurring a period of self-reflection, which she now sees as sorely needed. Emily remarks upon how facing her biggest challenge yet led to a reevaluation of every aspect of her life, and a quest to start doing what really matters to her. Having fought battles and hardship all her life, this year Emily started her own podcast in which she digs deep into stories of strength, fear, and what makes people hungry for life. The podcast, Tackling Minds, provides thought-provoking and raw conversations with everyone in the health and fitness industry, from practitioners to coaches, competitors to CEOs, and professionals in mental and sexual health.
*
Content Warning - Sexual abuse
*
Emily Tan -
Bio: https://emilylolatan.com/
Her Podcast "Tackling Minds": https://tacklingminds.com/tackling-minds
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theemilytan/
*
Sara's Podcast "Better In Bed": https://www.sarasense.com/podcast
*
Social Media -
Cissy: https://www.instagram.com/cissrad/
In The Changing Room: https://www.instagram.com/inthechangingroompod/
