Kanmani argues that ironically, this Act does not protect the rights of any of the communities it purports to. The amendments come from a perceived threat to the "ideal Hindu family", and mirror similar Western socio-religious concerns. 

She also speaks from lived experience, and from her interactions with a wide section of the transgender community, of what a fair law for transpersons really entails.
