You Don’t Have to Do It All: Building a Team You Trust

Mon, 12 Oct 2026 04:00:00 -0400

Welcome to another episode of Coffee & Cows! This one’s all about the people who make the magic happen. Becca and Garrett share how Humble Grounds went from Becca doing everything to a team where everyone gets to shine in their own lane. They talk about the friends who walked in at exactly the right moment, the retreat exercise that helped them sort out who should do what, and what they’ve learned about letting people be great at what they’re great at. They also get real about how they figured out their own lanes as a couple, including a few lessons about delivering hard news, the surprising power of little wins, and the dreamer-versus-doer dynamic that keeps them on their toes. If you’ve ever tried to do it all yourself, this one’s for you.

They share what really drew them to the coffee shop world, what they hoped to build for their community, their team, and their kids, and a few of the unexpected surprises that have come from betting on something they could actually put their hands on. They also get real about the money side of small business ownership, including the lessons they learned the hard way and one piece of advice Garrett had to repeat for about two years before it finally stuck. Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for a fun, honest look at what it means to build something that matters.

Behind the Scenes: What Running a Coffee Shop ACTUALLY Looks Like

Mon, 28 Sep 2026 04:00:00 -0400

Okay friends, grab your coffee because this episode is spilling all the stuff you'll never see on Instagram. Becca and Garrett take you behind the counter for the 3am taco rolls, the legendary "Cambro Palooza" catering madness, espresso machines that pick the worst possible moment to break, and the time Garrett turned a coffee spigot into a foot-scalding disaster. Add in a trailer that refused to start in the freezing cold, a caffeine-fueled sprint to serve 650 Amazon employees, and more chaos than any latte art photo could ever capture, and you've got a real look at what it takes to keep Humble Grounds running. Spoiler: it is a lot more duct tape and adrenaline than anyone expects. If you love a good story, you’ll LOVE this episode!

Mon, 21 Sep 2026 05:00:00 -0400

What’s it like to own a business with your spouse? This one's for anyone who's ever wondered what it's actually like to build a business with your spouse. Why We Started Humble Grounds (And Why the Timing Made No Sense)

Mon, 21 Sep 2026 03:00:00 -0400

Becca and Garrett Speed kick off the Coffee and Cows podcast by taking listeners back to where it all started: buying Humble Grounds Coffee House in the middle of a global pandemic with three kids under five at home. From late-night "patio dreaming" sessions and a notebook they call the Purple Book, to a deal that fell through and came back together as COVID reshaped everything, they share the real, unpolished story of how a Hallmark movie daydream turned into a real business. It's a conversation about faith, timing, marriage, and what it actually looks like to take a leap when nothing about the moment seems convenient.
