Our vision is to answer God’s call by using our marriage—its experiences, lessons, and redemption—to help couples seek God for true transformation. Through Christ, we stand to reclaim marriages from the enemy, reminding the world that marriage belongs to God, was redeemed by Christ’s sacrifice, and is meant to reflect His love, grace, and covenant faithfulness. We envision marriages elevated, restored, and anchored in God’s truth so they may glorify Him and strengthen families for generations to come.

We are your hosts, Eric and Sharris, and today we are talking about “Surface-Level Attacks: When Old Pain Resurfaces.”

In relationships and marriage, past rejection, betrayal, disappointment, abandonment, and unresolved hurt can suddenly rise to the surface. Before we realize it, we may respond to the person in front of us based on the pain of someone or something from our past.

But God does not want us living as prisoners of old wounds. He wants to heal us completely—beneath the surface—and replace our pain with His love, grace, peace, forgiveness, and joy.

Today, we are going to discuss how to recognize emotional and spiritual triggers, how unresolved pain affects our relationships, and how surrendering those wounded places to God can help us respond from a place of healing instead of hurt.

So, take a deep breath, open your heart, and prepare to go beneath the surface—because what resurfaces is not always meant to destroy you. Get close to real couples. Here’s how:
1. Spend time with couples you respect and talk about real issues.
2. You’ll find they face similar challenges — and that honesty leads to mutual growth.
3. Unhealthy comparisons come from distance, but openness fosters truth.
4. Example: “Our home is a refuge that points people to Jesus.”

- Jehovah Magen and Chereb — Shield and Glorious Sword (Deuteronomy 33:29)
- Scripture: “He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword.” (NIV)
- Practice: Protect your spouse’s reputation. No sarcasm or airing grievances in public.

- Jehovah Machsi — My Refuge (Psalm 91:2)
- Scripture: “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (NIV)
- Practice: Make your home emotionally safe. No interrupting, no contempt. Pray Psalm 91 over your household.

- Names in Psalm 18 — Strength, Rock, Fortress, Stronghold (Psalm 18:1–2)
- Scripture: “I love you, Lord, my strength… my rock… my fortress… my stronghold.” (NIV)
- Practice: Build weekly “rock rhythms”: a shared Sabbath hour, a tech-free dinner, and a prayer walk.

- Jehovah Ori — My Light (Psalm 27:1)
- Scripture: “The Lord is my light and my salvation…” (NIV)
- Practice: Walk in the light. Schedule device-free presence every day for 15 minutes.

- Other affirmations from the Psalms:
- “My glory” (Psalm 3:3)
- “King for ever and ever” (Psalm 10:16); “the Lord, the King” (Psalm 98:6)
- “Creator” (Isaiah 40:28); “Redeemer” (Isaiah 49:26)
- “My Fortress” (Jeremiah 16:19)
- “My Shepherd” (Psalm 23:1)
- “Mighty in battle” (Psalm 24:8)

Homework Review:

A. Name-a-Day Couple Devotion (7 days)
- Day 1: Jehovah Jireh (Genesis 22:14) — Share one need. Pray for wisdom and contentment.
- Day 2: Jehovah Rapha (Exodus 15:26) — Each confess one hurtful habit. Ask for healing.
- Day 3: Jehovah Shalom (Judges 6:24) — Practice a peace pause in your next disagreement.
- Day 4: Jehovah Rohi (Psalm 23:1–3) — Ask God to shepherd one decision you’re facing.
- Day 5: Jehovah Machsi (Psalm 91:2) — Make a “refuge rule” for your home (e.g., no yelling, no sarcasm).
- Day 6: Jehovah Magen/Chereb (Deuteronomy 33:29) — Speak one protective, honoring affirmation about your spouse to someone else.
- Day 7: Jehovah Shammah (Ezekiel 48:35) — Plan a 30-minute device-free presence date at home.

B. Memory Verses (choose one or two to pray over each other daily):
- Psalm 23:1 (NIV): “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”
- Psalm 27:1 (NIV): “The Lord is my light and my salvation…”
- Psalm 91:2 (NIV): “He is my refuge and my fortress…”
- Jeremiah 23:6 (NIV): “The Lord Our Righteous Savior.”

C. Banner Statement:
- Write a one-sentence “family banner” connected to a name of God. We’re so grateful you’re joining us today.

Yes, welcome family. Today’s conversation is titled “Move, Intentionally.” This isn’t just about physical movement—it’s about spiritual movement, heart posture, obedience, and trusting God when He says, “It’s time to shift.”

Before we dive in, wherever this message finds you—in the car, at work, or curled up at home—take a breath. The One who anchors you in grace is holding you in His love and peace. You are not walking alone.

If this episode found you unexpectedly, we believe you didn’t land here by accident. God is inviting you to listen, to receive, and to step forward—one faithful, intentional move at a time. Maybe it’s a shift in how you pray, how you show up for your family, how you trust God with the unknown, or how you release what you’ve been holding. In Him we live and move and have our being, and today we’re choosing to move with Him.

So open your heart, settle your spirit, and let’s lean in together. This is Anchored in Grace—“Move, Intentionally.” Let’s begin.

Homework & Practice: Moving Intentionally This Week
1. Pause & Pray Daily
Ask God each morning: “Lord, where are You inviting me to move—mentally, spiritually, or practically?”
2. Identify One Area of Resistance
Write down one place where you feel stuck or hesitant. Invite God into that space.
3. Take One Intentional Step
That could be a conversation, a boundary, a habit change, or obedience to something God has already spoken.
4. Journal the Movement
At the end of the week, reflect:
What did God reveal? What changed in me?

Psalm 37:23 (Easy Read):
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who trusts in Him.”

Support the show
