Car Coach is your inside line on how dealerships really work, how to buy and own vehicles smarter, and how the modern auto business keeps the lights on. Hosted by a senior multi‑store dealership executive, each episode pulls back the curtain on what happens behind the sales tower, in the F&I office, and in the service drive.

You’ll learn how pricing, trade appraisals, and incentives actually come together, what impacts your payment, and how dealers think about profit, discounts, and “the deal.” We break down common myths about buying new vs. used, leasing vs. financing, extended warranties and protection packages, and what really matters when you’re comparing offers.

For current and aspiring industry pros, we go deep on the playbook of running a successful store: KPIs that drive performance, lead management, inventory strategy, and building a high‑accountability sales and service culture. For everyday drivers, every episode includes clear takeaways you can use the next time you shop, service, or trade‑in your vehicle.

Whether you’re a car shopper, an enthusiast, or a dealership leader, Car Coach gives you straight talk, real numbers, and practical advice so you can navigate today’s automotive world with confidence.

"Welcome to Car Coach — the show where we pull back the curtain on everything automotive. I'm Ross North, and
every week we're going to break down the stuff the industry doesn't always want you to know — from the service
bay, to the showroom floor, to keeping your vehicle running for the long haul. This is your clinic on the air. Let's get
into it."
I got into this business in 1983. I've held almost every position a dealership has — lot attendant, salesperson, finance
manager, general sales manager, general manager, and now VP overseeing the whole group. That's over 40 years of
being in and around vehicles every single day.

"Car Coach is simple. We're here to educate, inform, and have some fun doing it. Every week, we're going to cover
one topic that every car owner or car buyer in Alberta needs to understand.
Sometimes we'll be talking about what's happening in the service bay — what's a real repair recommendation and
what's not. Sometimes we'll be talking about the buying process — how to time a purchase, how to read an
incentive, how to negotiate without losing your mind.
Other times we'll talk about ownership — what it actually costs to own a vehicle over its lifetime, how to protect your
investment, and when the right time to trade is.
We're going to have guests — technicians, finance managers, sales professionals, and industry experts. And we
want to hear from you. If you have a question, a story, or something you've always wanted to know about the car
business — this is the place to bring it.
Welcome to the community. This is Car Coach."

"Before we talk about what goes wrong, let's talk about what's supposed to happen. Your car's A/C system works
like a refrigerator — it takes a chemical called refrigerant, compresses it, runs it through coils, and uses that process
to pull heat out of the air before it hits your vents. The refrigerant itself goes around and around in a sealed loop — it
doesn't burn, it doesn't evaporate under normal conditions. It just circulates."
"So when someone tells you your refrigerant is just 'low' or 'running out' — that's a red flag. Something has to be
causing it to leave the system."

"Let's recap what we covered today. Your A/C system is a closed loop — refrigerant doesn't just disappear. If it's
low, there is a leak, and that leak needs to be found and fixed before any refrigerant goes back in. Don't let any shop
just top you up and send you home.
Ask those five questions before you approve any A/C work. Write them in your notes app right now so you have
them when you need them.
And remember — a good shop will welcome those questions. A shop that gets defensive or vague when you ask
them is telling you everything you need to know."
