We compare UK sole trader status, UK limited companies, LLPs, US LLCs and C Corporations, and why the structure that looks simple at the start may create tax, cash flow and legal problems later.

We also discuss why American customers may prefer working with US based business entities, why UK businesses can look attractive to US buyers, how average UK and US income levels influence pricing expectations, and why some US customers may refuse to pay a UK company directly.

One of the biggest dangers covered in this episode is the risk of 30% US withholding tax. A UK business may invoice a US customer for $10,000, only to be told that $3,000 must be withheld and sent to the IRS. Simon explains why this can happen, how the US UK tax treaty and permanent establishment rules may affect the answer, and why getting the right advice before you trade with America matters.

This episode is ideal for UK entrepreneurs, consultants, agencies, accountants, online businesses and professional service firms that want to win American clients while protecting profits, reducing tax mistakes and choosing the right UK or US business structure.

Simon Misiewicz of Optimise Accountants

US UK Cross Border Tax Options

US UK Cross Border Taxes: https://internationaltaxesadvice.com/

Book a Call: https://optimiseaccountantsltd.as.me/International-tax

US UK Expats Tax Free eBook: https://survey.zohopublic.com/zs/fCDggd

Podcasts: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2607825

LinkedIn Articles: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-misiewicz-fcca-att-ea-caa-mba-61637033b/recent-activity/articles/

A quick mention of our proud sponsor Calm Buddies, helping children, parents and families bring a little more comfort, calm and reassurance into everyday life.

You are likely paying significantly more tax to HMRC and handing over more cash to mortgage lenders than you actually get to keep yourself. But there is a massive silver lining across the Atlantic.

In this episode, we break down why British expats and property investors are shifting their capital to booming US markets like Orlando, Florida. While the UK government has swiped away critical landlord benefits, the US IRS is practically rolling out the red carpet with incredible tax incentives.

Discover how you can legally offset 100% of your mortgage interest costs against your rental income, utilize aggressive building depreciation, and tap into cost segregation reports to maximize your tax write-offs. This episode reveals a shocking reality that could cost you tens of thousands of dollars if ignored. Many Americans assume that once they leave the United States, their tax obligations disappear. That assumption could be financially devastating.

In today’s episode, we uncover how Americans abroad are still required to file US tax returns every single year, regardless of where they live. We explain why moving to the UK introduces a completely new layer of complexity, especially if you hold UK bank accounts, ISAs, pensions, investment portfolios, or property. These are not just financial tools, they can trigger additional IRS reporting requirements that most people have never even heard of.

We break down the key IRS forms that catch Americans out, including FBAR, Form 8938, Form 3520, Form 8621, and more. Many standard US tax software systems do not support these forms, and even experienced US accountants may not fully understand international reporting rules.

We also discuss the dangerous misconception of “tax free” investments in the UK. What may be tax efficient in the UK can be fully taxable in the United States. Without proper advice, you could end up paying tax twice or reporting incorrectly.

Another critical issue covered is the mismatch between UK and US tax years, creating administrative chaos and increasing the risk of errors. We also explain how state tax obligations may change when you leave the US, and when you may no longer need to file at state level.

This episode is essential listening for high earning professionals, business owners, and investors earning between $100,000 and $1,000,000 who are considering or have already made the move.

If you want to avoid turning your dream move into a tax nightmare, this is information you cannot afford to ignore.

Hashtags
#USTax #ExpatTaxes #AmericansAbroad #UKTax #IRS #TaxAdvice #InternationalTax #ExpatsUK #TaxPlanning #FinancialMistakes

Links

🌐 Website: https://internationaltaxesadvice.com/#

📅 Book a Call: https://optimiseaccountantsltd.as.me/Optimise-accountants-sales-call

📄 UK – US Expat Tax Guide: https://survey.zohopublic.com/zs/fCDggd

▶️ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@USUKCrossBorderTaxes

🎧 Apple Podcasts: https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/my-podcasts/show/cross-border-property-tax-uk-us-by-simon-misiewicz-of-optimise-accountants/6c032a66-0b85-4fe2-bb2d-7677e7ecfa04

🎵 Spotify Podcasts: https://open.spotify.com/show/663RrvLazz1OoI8tNZirke?si=VCvqWWUjSt-vYXUO9mPRYQ

💼 LinkedIn Articles: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-misiewicz-fcca-att-ea-caa-mba-61637033b/recent-activity/articles/

Support the show

What seems simple on the surface quickly becomes overwhelming, with tax returns expanding from a few dozen pages in the UK to potentially hundreds of pages in the US.

We explain how the IRS requires full disclosure of your worldwide income, meaning your UK rental properties, investments, bank accounts, and even your limited companies all come under scrutiny. We cover the complexity of dealing with two tax systems at once, including the mismatch between the UK tax year and the US calendar year, and why this alone can create serious reporting errors.

In this episode, we also talk about double taxation risks, and why foreign tax credits are not as straightforward as they sound.
