<itunes:summary>Hello, I’m Debbie. I’m a river activist, and I care deeply about the health of our rivers and the life within them. In this first episode, I wanted to properly introduce myself, share why I do what I do, and talk about what’s really happening to our waterways. They support so much life — fish, insects, birds — entire ecosystems that are often overlooked. They also give us something just as important: space to breathe, reset, and feel calm.

I truly believe that when people understand rivers, they start to care about them. And when people care, things begin to change.

That’s why a big part of my work is focused on education — especially with young people. They are the future guardians of these spaces, and they deserve to grow up knowing their value.

I also want to encourage more people to speak up. To ask questions. To get involved locally. Because real change happens when communities come together and hold decision-makers accountable.

This podcast is a space for honest conversations, learning, and hopefully, a bit of inspiration.

If you’ve ever walked by a river, sat by one, or felt better just being near water — this matters to you too.

Thank you for being here.

Debbie AKA The River Girl X
