Chateau Cos D'Estournel 

Chateau Cos d'Estournel is a Grand Cru vineyard located in St. Estephe. Its oriental facade is adorned with three pagoda turrets, all cast in a soft golden sandstone. Chateau Cos d'Estournel today covers 170 acres separated from Chateau Lafite, along the southern edge, by the stream between St. Estephe and Pauillac. The gravelly soil, over a flint, limestone and silicate subsoil low in nitrogen, has eroded over centuries to form steep ridges which perfectly drain the vineyards. The vineyards are planted 60 percent in Cabernet Sauvignon vines, 2 percent of Cabernet Franc, and 38 percent in Merlot. Naturally, the percentage of Cabernet or Merlot in the composition of each vintage depends on the climate which favors one grape variety or the other.

Domaine Des Baumard Winery
The Baumard family has been wine growing wine at Rochefort in the Anjou for centuries, working with the noble Chenin in what has long been accepted as its natural home, the slate-covered hillside vineyards along the Loire and Layton rivers. In 1953, the Baumard family acquired a vineyard in the Quarts de Chaume, and in 1968, purchased substantial acreage in Savennieres. Jean Baumard, an enologist and educator, as well as grower, introduced significant innovations to the winemaking region, bringing the dry wines of Savennieres, as well as his sweet wines, Quarts de Chaumes and Coteaux du Layon back to prominence. Now in retirement, further innovation has been carried on by Jean's son, Florent.

Winemaker Notes
Intense ruby red color with violet hues. The nose is rich and intense, with nots of strawberry, marasca cherry, violet flowers and rose bud. On the palate it has a full sapidity and smooth tannins. Overall it is soft, and it reflects all the aromas felt at the nose. Good persistence.
Enjoy with sausage, cheese or pasta.

Velenosi Winery
Located just outside of the town of Ascoli Piceno, Velenosi is a dynamic estate headed by the charismatic and skilled Angela Velenosi. The estate is included in the Rosso Piceno Superiore production subzone, a privileged area included in the much larger zone of Rosso Piceno. While Rosso Piceno is produced in a rather vast hilly area of the Marche, only the very limited zone within the province of Ascoli Piceno, with its special microclimate and pedologic conditions that extend over fourteen municipalities of this province, is designated Superiore. In addition to Rosso Piceno Superiore, which is generally cited smong the top wines in the Marche, Velenosi also produces a Bordeaux-style IGT Marche called Ludi that is widely considered one of the top Italian wines. The potential of this terroir combined with the work of Attilio Pagli at the helm of the winemaking has lead Velenosi to be recognized as a leading producer in Italy and around the world.

Winemaker Notes
Pale and pretty in crystal-clear pink with orange undertones. The nose is delicate and fruity with notes of white peach and apricot mixed with passion fruit and mango. Domaine Ott Winery
In 1896, after a tour of France’s many vineyards, Marcel Ott, a young graduate in agronomy engineering, finally found an estate that inspired him. To set the scene, we are in Provence. The Mediterranean is lapping at the shore a mere stone’s throw away... 

In these parts, growing vines is the legacy of ancient times. Alas, a short while before Marcel Ott’s discovery, phylloxera had wreaked havoc on the vines. The land was cheaper, but the vineyards would have to be replanted. The wine had lost a great deal of its soul in the vineyard’s reconstruction. Marcel Ott bought several estates and began renovating them with the determined ambition to create great Provencal wines from noble grape varieties. 

Today, 120 years later, cousins Christian and Jean-François Ott dedicate their life to their ancestor’s love for the site. In 2004, Domaines Ott joined Louis Roederer and its fabulous selection of wine craftsmen.

Christian and Jean-François run three estates: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille (both Côtes de Provence) and Château Romassan (Bandol). Each of these properties has its own individual charm and personality. Each can be proud of their extremely elegant rosé, red and white wines.

Winemaker Notes

Raspberry, fig with notes of vanilla on the nose. Flavors of plum and black olive give way to well coated tannins and black olive in the lingering finish.

Pairs well with roasted pork tenderloin with blue cheese potatoes or a wine country tri tip.

Ridge Vineyards | An Overview

Ridge's history begins in 1885, when Osea Perrone, a doctor and prominent member of San Francisco's Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He planted vineyards and constructed a winery of redwood and native limestone in time to produce the first vintage of Monte Bello in 1892. The historic building now serves as the Ridge production facility.

Though Ridge began as a Cabernet winery, by the mid-60s, it had produced several Zinfandels including the Geyserville. In 1972, Lytton Springs joined the line-up and the two came to represent an important part of Ridge production. Known primarily for its red wines, Ridge has also made limited amounts of Chardonnay since 1962.

The Ridge approach is straightforward: find the most intense and flavorful grapes, guide the natural process, draw all the fruit's richness into the wine. Decisions on when to pick, when to press, when to rack, what varietals and what parcels to include and when to bottle, are based on taste. To retain the nuances that increase complexity, Ridge winemakers handle the grapes and wine as gently as possible. There are no recipes, only attention and sensitivity.

Once again, de Villiers Vineyard has yielded one of Mt. Harlan’s most luxurious and robust Pinot Noirs, with deep, penetrating flavors of ripe plum, black cherry and cassis. As it unfurls, the wine reveals beautiful underlying complexity, with fine-grained tannins and hints of white pepper, sassafras and cigar box lingering on the finish.

Calera Winery
In 1975, legendary vintner and American wine pioneer Josh Jensen founded Calera (Spanish for “lime kiln”) high in the remote Gavilan Mountains of California’s windswept Central Coast. There, in Mt. Harlan’s low-yielding, limestone-rich soils and cool, arid climate, he began planting what would ultimately become six small estate vineyards. Today, these vineyards are recognized as some of the New World’s most revered Pinot Noir sites.

Calera is a vision, and Calera’s wines truly express the sense of place. Rather than follow the recommended path, Josh Jensen became a pioneer in American Pinot Noir. Taking his cue from the great domaines of Burgundy, which have grown grapes in limestone soil for centuries, he set out in search of the perfect spot in California to create wines unique to the world but in the style of the greatest wines of France. Site selection was vital as he ventured off the grid to plant on the site of an old limekiln in the Gavilan Mountains of California's Central Coast. 

Under the stewardship of Winemaker Mike Waller, each vineyard is renowned for producing singular wines of uncommon purity, elegance and aging potential. Winemaker Notes

While it may bear the “lowly” designation of Côtes-du-Rhône, think of it as mini-Marcoux. Lithe and spicy, it is a Grenache-dominant cuvée from two sites just north of the boundary of Châteauneuf-du-Pape: Maucoil and Bois Lauzon. There are small and varying percentages of Mourvedre, Cinsault and Syrah added to the Grenache each vintage.

Official French records indicate that the Armenier family has been tending vines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape since the 1300's. 
Today, winemaker-sisters Catherine Armenier and Sophie Estevenin continue to write history with the wines of Domaine de Marcoux.
In 1990, the Domaine became the first in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape to implement biodynamic farming practices. Their youngest vines are 40 to 60-years-old, and in short, the sisters do as little as possible to the harvested grapes. This domaine, as critic Stephen Tanzer put it, is "the essence of Chateauneuf-du-Pape."
In 2003, Robert Parker named Sophie and Catherine on his list of "Wine Personalities of Year"

This was a fun wine, with a history that stretches all the way back to Pliny the Elder, a lost wine called "Falernum" & a flying overview of the whole convulted thing!

Winemaker Notes
The color is straw yellow that contains brilliant green reflections. The perfume is intense and persistent with sensations of delicate white flowers and fruit. The taste offers freshness and balance, with a clean finish.

Ideal as an aperitif, it can also accompany various types of appetizers, plates of simple fish and vegetables as well as fresh cheeses.

Feudi di San Gregorio 
Established in 1986 in Sorbo Serpico, a tiny village in Campania’s Irpinia region, by the Capaldo and Ercolino families. Following an earthquake in 1980 that caused large destruction, the family wanted to assist in the town’s reconstruction by investing in the community and its wine culture. 
Feudi di San Gregorio has partnered and invested in many research projects to develop the local varietals with a great focus on sustainability. They are committed to local and global sustainability with the use of solar energy, zero carbon footprint corks, water recycling and use of sustainable agriculture in the vineyards. 
Feudi di San Gregorio is known for their ancient vines, some up to 200 years old, using the ancient pergola training system, which survived the phylloxera spread of 1910, allowing Irpinia to become a distinct and treasured wine growing region in Italy.

Their liveliest and most youthful style from Soave Classico, the Pieropan family has been producing this wine since the early 1900’s.

Generous, pleasingly fresh and versatile, it is made from the traditional varieties of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grown in family-owned vineyards situated in the Soave Classico zone.

Nostre Païs, our “Our Land” is Michel Gassier’s attempt at capturing what makes the Costières de Nîmes unique in the Rhône valley. For the Nostre Païs Rouge, Michel employs all the permitted red varieties in the appellation: Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Syrah. He avoid over maturity and prefers to ferment only half the cuvée in neutral French oak barrels. Fermentation are indigenous and varying amounts of whole clusters are retained based on the vintage.

French winemaker Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 50 years ago, when "he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. The most recent creation from Casanova di Neri is their "IrRosso di Casanova di Neri" Toscana IGT. The name, "Irrosso" translates to "our red wine" in Florentine dialect and refers to a good value, easy-drinking red to share with friends and family. The wine is primarily made up of Sangiovese (90%) from younger Brunello vineyards and blended with a small amount of Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, from vineyards in the southern part of Montalcino. "Irrosso" is the most approachable of Neri wines, at an early stage of development but can still age well.

Winemaker Notes

Crushed gently and dropped into 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked for 24 to 72 hours, then inoculated with a variety of yeasts, hand-punched and pressed directly to barrel where the wine finishes both primary and secondary fermentations. The individual lots of wine that comprise the Cabernet Franc are kept separate for at least one year before they are blended.

What happens when fresh grapes are picked, but not processed?

If you are in Rome, the answer might be that these grapes are being laid to rest in wooden crates in their own little home, with gentle, cool breezes sweeping off the hills to slowly, carefully and patiently reduce the water level in them. Once these grapes have lost 30% of their water, they are then pressed & fermented, where their higher concentration of sugar & solids create a more intensely flavored wine- a wine that expresses the passion & fire of the town where Romeo wooed, wed, courted & died with his love Juliet! ‘Veraton’ is the third wine Alto Moncayo produces from the Garnacha grape, from vines between 30 and 50 years old, and aged in barrels for 16 months. It is a wine with an attractive collection of balsamic notes, of chocolate and black fruits, very warm in the mouth and an extremely pleasant finish.

The winery located in the Campo de Borja D.O. It was founded in 2002 with the aim of turning it into a world reference for Garnacha wines of the highest quality, crafted from some of the oldest native vine clones in the area.The garnacha grape is one of the varieties that best expresses its terroir. Thus, the Garnacha of Alto Moncayo is different from the rest of the Campo de Borja D.O area. This is due to the very strict selection made from the vineyards, the type of soil in which it is grown, the microclimate, and the age of the vines. "Gabriel Martinez Valero (a.k.a. Gabi), has always lived in Jumilla, where wine has been made since before Roman times. Gabi’s family is thought to be one of the families that used to export their Monastrell wines to France in the mid XIX Century, when phylloxera was devastating the French vineyards. The southern French vignerons fell in love with these wines that they started calling it Mourvedre, after the Mediterranean town of Morvedro (Morverdre in the local Valenciano language) where most of the wine was loaded in boats to go to France.
The wines shows an array of blackberries, blueberry jam, plum skin, cedar, very spicy with hints of lavender, dried wild grasses, thyme and a long aftertaste."
