Matthew 7:21–23 contains some of the most sobering words Jesus ever spoke: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.” But what exactly is Jesus warning us about?

In this episode, we take a deeper look at these verses in their surrounding context—from the warning about false prophets and recognizing their fruit, to the wise and foolish builders who hear Jesus’ words and either do them or fail to do them.

Most importantly, we slow down at Jesus’ final statement: “Depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” Why does Jesus connect entering the Kingdom of Heaven with doing the will of His Father—and why does He identify those who are rejected as people who practice lawlessness?

We’ll explore Matthew 5:17–20, the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, Jesus’ teaching about God’s commandments, and what Scripture actually means when it speaks about righteousness, obedience, and lawlessness.

Could we be overlooking something critical when we read, “I never knew you”?

Let’s go back to the words of Jesus, examine the context, and allow Scripture to interpret Scripture.

We are told that when Jesus returns for the day of the Lord, that time will be just as it was when Noah boarded the ark before the flood, but what does that mean?

A lot of people read those words and fill in the blanks, but we should be looking deeper and seek a better understanding of what Jesus meant when He said those words to the disciples there on the Mount of Olives.

In a first installment of a "Road Series," we will take a dive into what Jesus meant by this. The Road Series is a new version of recording, done on-the-go style while driving long distances. When in the car for a long time, I spend a lot of time with God. My mind will tend to wander and I start to have some revelations of information that the Holy Spirit has revealed to me, or maybe I see something that sparks a thought or conversation. I just hit record and start unloading. I've decided that these episodes should be shared as-is and not be re-recorded with better audio, so while I will do the best to reduce it, you can expect road noise and all.
