Lane County operates one of best-managed landfills in Oregon, offers more rural transfer sites than any other county in the state, and benefits from an award-winning recycling program. That system is in danger because a Texas company that owns Sanipac, Ecosort and County Transfer & Recycling is taking the waste it collects from Lane County and trucking it hundreds of miles away.

After a winter hiatus, we are back with new episodes of Mokrohisky Minutes. This month, Assistant County Administrator Greg Rikhoff and I had a chance to talk about some of the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead in 2026. We covered funding, the effect of changes to federal programs, efforts to fund public safety, progress on our behavioral health stabilization center, and the work to update our Lane Events Center Master Plan.
