]]> Buzzsprout-18119463 Tue, 11 Nov 2025 06:00:00 -0800 5523 1 22 full false Episode 21: Edgar Castro Episode 21: Edgar Castro The Art Revolution Podcast welcomes Edgar Castro for episode 21.  He started photography in high school and recently has toured the world with the metal band Death Angel capturing the band’s shows through his lens and honing his unique, signature style.  Growing up a musician, and even touring the country with a thrash band out of high school, Castro polished his chops as a bassist and vocalist on the road.  He then joined Goreskin Coffin, a Ukiah based Black Death Metal, Grind band where he plays bass, after studying music at Mendocino College for a few years.  Working as a barista at Black Oak Coffee and a bartender, Edgar decided to show his tile artwork at The Lot on Main gaining confidence in the process and parlaying his artistic eye into the world of photography beginning his journey as a professional photographer.  He has since become one of the premier videographers and photographers in the metal scene and continues to spread his wings working as a photographer at The AfterShock Festival prowling the pit and earning a reputation with his unique eye and getting the shot no matter the chaos surrounding him.  We were blessed to sit down with this up and coming talent and hear his origin story from his humble beginnings in Ukiah.  You can find his photography@ e.castro.photography on Instagram and look for him at local shows and weddings capturing magic moments through his lens for us all to enjoy.

He immediately knew he wasn’t in Kansas anymore or in this case Chicago.  Mendo wrapped its open arms around him and he never left, eventually buying a piece of property outside of Willits where he started a homestead and purchased Burrito Exquisito in the 90’s. He became a mainstay house musician at Shanachie Pub in downtown Willits also playing with his band This Cult of Ours.  From there, he has launched Tommy G Presents which organized Willits Fest in the summer of 2025.  It was well received and attended with maximum support from the community featuring local musicians, artists and vendors.  His latest event is Day of the Divine on November 8th (12-6pm) at the The Willits Art Center featuring The Real Sarahs, Senefoli w/ Gigi Cano, Alyra Rose, Summer Rose, Luna Zaka, Joey Vayda/bellydance and crystal bowl sound healing w/ Erin Corley.  Tommy G discusses music, community and cultivating and nurturing the “Mendo Sound” here in Mendocino County to showcase our local muscians and talent.  He shares his wisdom and experience with the guys, inspiring them both to continue helping to push the underground live music and art scene forward for the next generation of emerging, creative, local innovators.

The Cooperrider family decided to sell the brewery in 2012 and Sid now lives off-grid in the redwoods near Montgomery Woods caring for the family land.  Sid currently works in hospitality at Orr Hot Springs and recently published a coloring book with his original, free-hand drawn designs available at www.sidart.net.  Jared and Sid know each other from the brewery days and reminisce about a specific chaotic night that pushed them both to their absolute breaking points, ending in a failure of epic proportion.  Sid is a talented guitar player, a computer tech wiz and sits on the Mendo Utopia board of directors.  We hope you enjoy Episode 18 with our friend and musical compadre, Sid Cooperrider.
