What started in her kitchen quickly grew into SmartSweets, a globally recognized brand that redefined the candy aisle with lower-sugar, feel-good alternatives. Her journey wasn’t just about building a company — it was about resilience, navigating doubt, raising capital in a male-dominated industry, and scaling a purpose-driven brand without losing her “why.”

Now, in a true full-circle moment, she returns to the place that helped spotlight her early entrepreneurial story — this time on the other side of the table. Tara joins Dragon's Den on CBC as a Guest Dragon, investing in the next generation of bold founders and changemakers.

And she’s not stopping there.

Through her philanthropic initiative Bold Beginnings, Tara is giving back to early-stage entrepreneurs in a meaningful way. The mission of Bold Beginnings is rooted in access — providing capital, mentorship, and belief to founders at the earliest, most vulnerable stages of building their dreams. It’s about removing barriers, democratizing opportunity, and becoming the kind of support system she once needed herself.

Now, she’s entering an entirely new chapter. This June, Tara is launching Snackish, stepping into a brand-new space and once again challenging the norms of the snack industry. It’s a powerful reminder that evolution doesn’t stop after one success — true entrepreneurs keep building, innovating, and daring to begin again.
