After the overwhelming response to Scott's leadership resource earlier this year, he turned his attention to one of the biggest challenges every band director faces: band camp. The result is Band Camp Quest, a simple but powerful tool that transforms the countless tasks, milestones, and objectives of band camp into an engaging achievement system inspired by modern video games.

As Chris explains, there's something incredibly satisfying about unlocking every achievement and checking every box in a favorite game. The idea isn't entirely new, it has its roots in a tradition Scott used years ago as a band director. At the end of each day during camp, students gathered for Vespers, where staff and section leaders awarded beads that members proudly displayed on lanyards throughout the week. Those beads became symbols of effort, growth, leadership, and achievement. Band Camp Quest reimagines that timeless concept for today's generation, delivering the same motivation through a modern, digital experience that resonates with today's students.

Season 3 was different.

As Scott and Chris look back on another incredible season of the Band Dads Podcast, two words kept rising to the surface: strategy and depth.

This season felt more intentional than ever before. Timely episodes like Fill the Darn Chair, Leadership Season, and Contest Season weren’t just conversation, they became practical resources released exactly when band families, parents, and directors needed them most. The real-time relevance of those discussions allowed listeners to immediately apply what they were hearing to their own programs and experiences, adding a level of usefulness that made this season feel truly special.

But Season 3 also went deeper than ever before.

Episodes like Band Around the World opened the door to conversations about how music education and band culture exist across different countries and communities, while unexpectedly inspiring an entirely new spin-off series: Offbeat. That creative spark eventually led to one of the most unique episodes the Band Dads have ever produced with Offbeat: Percy Grainger. The research and passion behind these episodes pushed Scott and Chris creatively in ways they hadn’t experienced before.

The season also featured unforgettable moments with the Band Moms in their wildly successful two-part The Real Bandwives episodes, plus a special crossover appearance on The Boosted Volunteer Podcast with Robin Eissler and Booster Hub.

And of course, at the core of it all, the Band Dads stayed true to what they do best: taking topics that are fun, real, and relatable, whether it was talking travel live from Times Square or navigating difficult conversations about bad band directors, and finding ways to turn them into meaningful, practical conversations with real takeaways.

Most importantly, this season reminded Scott and Chris of something they still struggle to fully comprehend: this community continues to grow far beyond what they ever expected. In a podcast space where analytics are often limited and difficult to measure, the messages, interactions, and support from listeners around the country, and the world, continue to prove that this community is something truly special.

And for that, the Band Dads are incredibly grateful.

It’s that time of year again—band directors everywhere are rolling out their processes for selecting student leadership teams for the upcoming fall season. What if band directors were treated like elite, in-demand coaches?

In this thought-provoking episode, the Band Dads explore a bold idea using a comparison from the sports world. Lane Kiffin is a high-profile college football coach known for being constantly pursued by programs, frequently changing jobs, and commanding attention and salary offers based on perceived value and potential—sometimes even more than past results alone.

So what if band directors were viewed the same way?

Unlike most classroom positions with guaranteed enrollment, band directors must recruit, retain, train, and compete. Their results are public, their programs help generate revenue, and their presence (or departure) can reshape a school’s culture for years. Yet when it comes to compensation, they’re typically treated no differently than positions that don’t require any of those additional demands.

Scott makes the case that band directors shouldn’t be viewed like traditional classroom teachers—and that it may only take one forward-thinking school (possibly even a charter school) to recognize their true value with a competitive, negotiated offer. If that domino falls, could band director compensation and mobility change nationwide?

Of course, opening that door raises difficult questions. What happens to programs that can’t afford to compete? Do lower-income schools fall even further behind? And what unintended consequences might follow?

The conversation then expands into an even bigger “what if”: could something like NIL exist for high school band? Incentives such as lessons, instruments, tailored schedules, scholarships—or even direct compensation. Would that elevate programs… or undermine the spirit of the activity?

It’s here, Championship Week! State Finals, BOA Grand Nationals,  the biggest weekend of the marching band season is finally here, and the Band Dads are feeling the Finals Fever. On September 10, 2025, the United States witnessed two unnecessary tragedies: the Evergreen High School shooting in Colorado and the fatal shooting of activist Charlie Kirk. That same evening, while already in the studio, the Band Dads pressed record for an impromptu, unrehearsed, and raw conversation about these events—and about a bigger question that’s hard to ignore:

If we already know that belonging to inclusive, creative groups like band changes lives, why do we keep accepting violence as if it’s unsolvable?

We explore whether those who commit these acts might have chosen differently if they had been rooted in an inclusive, supportive, and productive community. Why are subjects like English and Math required, yet programs like Band—proven to shape character and create lifelong connections—remain optional? This year, the U.S. will spend $4 billion on measures meant to protect kids from violence in schools. But what if even a fraction of that was redirected to programs that address the cause at its source?

Politics aside, this is about culture and priorities. We ask:

• What will it take for people to stop accepting violence as inevitable?
• If the answers are already in front of us, why aren’t we demanding them?
• How can families, educators, and communities push for real change?

This episode isn’t about easy solutions. It’s about pausing, reflecting, and confronting the uncomfortable truth: we know community saves lives—so what will it take to make it happen?

With unwavering courage and positivity, Jaxon fought through remission, relapse, and the harsh realities of treatment. Even in his hardest moments, he chose to focus on others leaving behind a legacy of light, service, and hope.

In this episode, we sit down with Jaxon’s parents, Jessica and Jay Landfair, to share his story in their words. It’s not just a story about loss, it’s a story of perspective, love, and the incredible impact one young life can have on the world.
