This is our third episode of the Fleurieu Living Wine Review.

As a result it is late - and I forgot to photograph the bottles. Which means that I now can't rescue the wine bottles to get full details of producers. I am very sorry about that to everyone - producers and listeners. We tasted:

A magnificent Mt Barker (WA) Riesling and A magnificent Mt Pleasant Hunter Valley Semillon, both of whose full identities are now lost to the vagaries of the recycling bin.

In our second Fleurieu Living wine review, we review seven wines from Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc to McLaren Vale Chardonnay. This time we squeezed it all into one episode to meet publication deadlines! We focussed on pairing these wines with a BBQ and discovered Jake's love of accompaniments and Darren's focus on the BBQ.

Why did we have an accidental Semillon episode - well Darren wanted to show a David Franz Eden Edge Riesling Semillon (2021) and Jacob had a Cullen Grace Madeline Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (2024).

This is in line with our new (perhaps it will even last a while) policy of one wine at an approachable price (under $30)  and one that is more aspirational (somewhat over $30).

A fun first back episode after a break caused by Darrens product launch and Jacobs running injuries! It's great to be back with SEASON 3!

You may not agree with our recommendations, so we are looking forward to you letting us know what you would advise. Any WINE BEEF with what we had to say will be joyously devoured. Let's throw this one about this for weeks and months. What was your first wine?

The wines we tasted this week were an interesting mix - a DOC Prosecco, Yalumba Y-series Pinot Grigio, and D'Arenberg The Custodian Grenache. 

We didn't just taste, we recommended like rum should be made - boldly and without apology. The whole of the Yalumba Y-Series, Thistledown Grenache, The Kylie Minogue Wines, King Valley Prosecco. I think that's it. Oh, and talk to a specialty merchant to get your laughing gear around the spech stuff.

Sweet wines Darren bought back from Germany are in our glasses - go and find some! We do talk a bit about how these are made, which is damn interesting. Other than that, the focus of the show is hard to work out. However, neither of us had stolen any bicycles recently. Oh... several mea culpas from Darren about inept use of social media.

Jacob brings some customer beef, and Darren judges it to be cold, crusty, mouldy, old stew.

Wine 1 is a Schloss Johannisberg 2021 Silberback Rheingau Riesling GG (Dry). Founded in 1720 on vineyards originally planted in 817, they are the oldest known Riesling wine estate in the world, and the birthplace of Spatlese Riesling!

Wine 2 is a Mayschoss Altenahr 2020 Mayschosser Mönchberg Ahr-Spätburgunder trocken. Founded 1868, they are the oldest winegrowers cooperative in the world!

Our wine beef this week was how it is a pity that Apera hasn't taken off as a name since Australia had to stop calling the local version of Sherry, well Sherry. It gets spell-checked to Opera, which is appropriate really 'cause it sings on the tongue.

D'Arenberg Derelict Vineyard McLaren Vale Grenache is fully reviewed, with a mention of the Laughing Magpie Mclaren Vale Shiraz Viognier which we reviewed in full in a now deleted recording that went sideways in so many ways. Also a mic broke and made a mess of it. Easy to find these.

The Swellian Hmaaad Plonk Grenache Shiraz also reviewed - don't know where to find this one.

Two vintage Aussie ports - that you will not be able to find. A great example of Australian fortified history - Sevenhill Vintage Port 1988 and Bleasdale Vintage Port 1990. These were a gift from a mate of Jakes who uncovered a lost cellar.

Wine 1 is a Yalumba Gen Organic Sauvignon Blanc which we tasted then added some frozen Jalapeños to find out about this years wine TikTok craze. Our verdict - a resounding yes. The wine over-delivers on its own and with the Jalapeño is a great weekend drink. We bought the SB from Dan's for $14.

Two wines plus Maple Syrup fraud today.

Wine 1 was a Pol Roger Demi-sec - I'm starting to get used to this now, will miss all this when JBs sparkling exam is done. He is taking it on a date, but there is less than a half bottle left after the podcast. Hard stuff to find. We got it from East End Cellars. Worth the effort.

Wine 2 Taltarni Estate Pyrenees Cabernet Sauvignon - lovely cool climate Cabernet Saugignon

This week Coates McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Adelaide Hills La Petite Cuvee NV (Shiraz and Friends) reminded us that great Sparkling Shiraz is not just for Christmas - it is for every day.

Jansz Premium Cuvee Method Tasmanoise was holding up really well considering it had been open for days - one of Australia's best value bubbles.

The La Gioisa Et Amorosa Millesimato Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG has also been open for a day or two, but was still showing why Asolo is well worth a look.

In case you didn't know, Darren writes these notes and prefers drinking wine the day it is opened. We talked about this on the poddy!

You should know that we agreed on a couple, that Jacob bought every last bottle in Australia of one of them, and it can be hard to choose between your friends.

No surprise with exams coming up that we tasted a sparkling wine - this was a sparkling Vouvray (Vouvray Mousseux) from Dan's - Pure Loire Sparkling Vouvray Brut by Maison Bougrier.

Number 2 was a BK Wines 2021 The Fall Single Vineyard Chardonnay from Carey Gully in the Adelaide Hills. Jacob suggested that Darren keep if for a day for it develop. It is all gone. Not a day has passed. It was very very good as it was.

Also Darren threw out two of the bottles before we got the full details off them - oops and sorry.

Finally, why we are talking stuff-ups, Darren tried to put the deleted episodes back up (and re-deleted two of them) - turns out that is quite hard and the episodes that might survive would be out of order ... and we might just be better to move on ... (not happy).

The sparklers:

Balter 2019 Trentodoc Brut purchased from Romolo at Terra Mia Imports - brilliant wine. If you can find a Trentodoc they are worth the effort based on this one.

DOC Prosecco 2023 (threw the details in the recycling).

Carpineto 2018 Rosso do Montalcino DOC (a gorgeous Sangiovese from the Hills of Tuscany).
