Good Girl Gone Human is an ongoing conversation that explores what it means to re-humanize ourselves. After a lifetime of trying to be seen as “good,” Holly and Kristina are diving into the idea of what it would feel like to put that label down- and embrace the whole spectrum of their humanity. This conversation leans into the big messy questions, like: what are the risks of putting the good label down? What would happen if we did accept the whole spectrum of our humanity? They look at the ways we dehumanize ourselves in the name of being good and the tools they’ve found for reclaiming those parts of ourselves we deem “bad.” There is an invitation for anyone who has felt dehumanized to join the conversation and re-humanize themselves in community.

This idea of not fitting into any one space can be a lonely and isolating place; but the gift of liminal space is that there is more room to discover that you are never just one thing. Moving beyond labels is a painful process of discovering who you are not in order to discover who you are. Allowing these ego deaths is a part of the journey to rising again. While incarcerated, R.G. leaned into meditation as a way to connect with his inner child and heal his own wounds. In meeting himself more fully, he was able to apply that inner work to those around him in prison. His stories of humanizing himself and others are powerful examples of how changes on the macro level often start at the micro level within each of us. R.G. Claire is a massage therapist and teaches a workshop called Cell Story: Where Science and Soul Collide. In this episode, she shares about the things in her life that led up to the culmination of her current work. Her journey with sobriety invited in a new sort of spiritual awareness and understanding of God. The idea that we are wounded, not wicked, changed the way she related to herself and others. Over time, she could see the story she told herself- that in order to be loved she had to be broken. A breakthrough day in her pre-med classes revealed to her the way that her biology believes the story she tells it. This idea that our thoughts and beliefs impact our biology changed her relationship with her body and the stories she told herself. Through personal storytelling and scientific facts, Claire invites us to recognize the relationship between our thoughts and our bodies.

Resources Mentioned:
Body Keeps the Score
Ameba Sisters YouTube

Connect with Claire:
Claire Margit on Instagram
Claire Margit on YouTube
https://www.clairemargit.com/

Intro/Outro Music:

Good in the End by Teddy at Night

Connect with Us:
📸 Instagram: @goodgirlgonehuman
🎵 TikTok: @goodgirlgonehuman
▶️ YouTube: @goodgirlgonehuman

This week Teresa Brenneman joins Holly and Kristina to talk about a key part of our human experience- the bodies we live in. She shares some of the tools that she's used to live a more embodied life, including the Human Design system. They discuss the idea of embodiment as buiding awareness in the body. Listening to the ways the body communicates with sensations and somatics is a process that can be started in simple and digestible ways. This process of building loving awareness helps us to build self trust. Teresa challenges the idea that a regulated nervous system should look like a calm body, recognizing that to regulate we actually have to feel and process the senstations that come through the body. This work of noticing our body can require some slowness and margin, but embodiment is not a destination to arrive at, but rather a journey of self discovery.

Teresa is a Human Design and Tarot reader, the Director of Community at the New School of Human Design, and podcaster. Her work has evolved from doing therapy in an Airstream trailer by the beach to sitting on the beach side by side with people. This humanizing work aims to take the shame out of healing, bringing therapeutic work out into the world. They talk about the ways society views therapy and consider new entry points and invitations into this kind of healing work. If the price of admission has been brokenness, how can we approach therapy with a reimagined sense of wholeness and agency? The temptation to give our power away to those who have a perceived sense of authority makes so much sense and can even feel comforting. The work of healing from a place of inner authority, self-trust, and full agency can lead to more play, creativity, and self-acceptance.

Intro/Outro Music:

Good in the End by Teddy at Night

Connect with Elyse:
Website https://www.elysesnipes.com/
Instagram @elysesnipes
Substack https://elysesnipes.substack.com/

Radical Wellness
Website: https://www.radicalwellness.co/
Instagram @radicalwellness_co

Connect with Us:
📸 Instagram: @goodgirlgonehuman
🎵 TikTok: @goodgirlgonehuman
▶️ YouTube: @goodgirlgonehuman
