Many of us try to live by culture’s script but still expect God’s results. If we treat relationships like entertainment, we shouldn’t be surprised when they break down like a bad Netflix series. True intimacy requires intention. It requires boundaries. It requires accountability. God’s way isn’t just about surviving love, it’s about thriving in it. His design leads to trust, safety, joy, and a love that endures for a lifetime.

So the question for us this week is: which script are we going to follow? The world’s version that promises freedom but leaves us empty or God’s covenant, which asks for everything but in return gives us more than we could ever imagine?

Too many of us worship family, gifts, or meals but forget that the real reason to worship is the Christ child, born to change all of history. God invited two very different groups of people to worship at the manger reminding us that God’s love is available to all, regardless of their status or background. In a field outside Bethlehem, God revealed the birth of his Son to a group of simple, lowly shepherds, the most unlikely recipients of the greatest news in history. But He also sent a star to lead the rich and powerful Kings from the far east to see the manger miracle as well. For all of them, worship was the only appropriate response to what they saw. Whether we feel unworthy of Jesus or offer expensive gifts and offerings, we, too, are invited to make worship a central part of Advent. Adoring Jesus and holding Him high over any of the challenges of the season will unlock the wonder we are looking for.

The true heart of Christmas lies in taking time to worship Jesus, acknowledging Him not just as a baby in a manger, but as the Savior of the world. The Christmas story is filled with holy moments where ordinary people are invited into God’s extraordinary plan. But while Mary’s revelation came through a direct angelic encounter, Joseph’s holy moment came quietly—in a dream, in the middle of personal heartbreak, confusion, and shattered plans.

Joseph enters the Christmas story facing what feels like the worst news of his life. The woman he loves is pregnant, and he knows the child is not his. The law gave Joseph the right to expose her, shame her, and walk away. Instead, Joseph chooses compassion. Before God ever speaks, Joseph’s character is already showing.

But then God interrupts Joseph’s pain with a holy moment—a dream that calls him to do the hardest thing imaginable:
Lay down his hurt, surrender his plans, and obey God when the story makes no sense.

The occult, witchcraft, sorcery, casting spells, and wizardry have become child’s play in our culture that cannot distinguish the light from the dark. The word of God is not ambiguous in its instructions to us regarding the “dark side.” We are to flee. These tactics of satan are hiding in plain sight and we are blind to their influence on our lives. Where have you knowingly or unknowingly opened the door to the occult? It is time for a deep clean.

Any power gained through human means is fleeting, while lasting power comes from obedience to God’s word and instructions. The idols of power, control and greed promise to give you what you want NOW, but they will cost you what you want MOST. Where do you allow the idol of power to tempt you into disobeying God? The promise and allure of earthly possessions and position make us short-sighted which results in short-circuiting our spiritual destiny. Worshipping at the altar of self is a very dangerous and destructive form of idolatry. Where have you elevated yourself, your comfort, your own wisdom, or your reputation in the eyes of others over obedience to God’s word? It is time for a deep clean.

If we are to show the love of God to others, we must begin by giving. “For God so loved the world, that He gave…” If we truly believe that our time, talents, money, and resources come from God, we will not be stingy in sharing them with others. Jesus noticed and celebrated each time He saw someone embrace the value of giving, but He mourned for those who couldn’t let go of the riches of this world. He invites us all to “get in the game” and enjoy the blessings that come when we give generously.

Get in the Game - Worship

Worship can take many forms, but at its heart it is the adoration of the one true God - and every Christ follower must exhibit worship in their lives. Jesus showed us that worship is not a spectator sport, and it is also not limited to simply singing. Worship is focusing on the Lord and honoring Him with our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits. Jesus invites us to get off the bench, shed our self-centeredness and cease to worry about what others think. When we are tempted to worship other things, Jesus encourages us to “get in the game,” refocus, and embrace a lifestyle of worship to God.

As players on His team, we minister to others by telling them about the transformation that Jesus has affected in our lives. Our testimony is a powerful, persuasive tool to introduce the truth of who Jesus is for those who would otherwise not know. We become a kingdom MVP each time we share the life-changing gospel of Jesus. Telling others is the ultimate way to “Get in the Game.”

Jesus modeled for His disciples what it meant to be a servant leader. He called twelve ordinary men to change the world in an unconventional way. A key part of His game plan was serving others in humility. Jesus provides a lunch of miraculous proportions and offers his disciples the opportunity to get in the game and serve up the food. They served all day until everyone got their fill and there were still twelve baskets left over. Serving God and others always leaves you energized and fulfilled so don’t waste another moment – “Get in the Game.”
