Why do you come to Jesus? Not the church answer. Not the answer you were taught to say. The real one that shows up in your life once the sermon ends and the week begins.

He has the power to heal. And He still waits. That one detail forces a question many of us carry quietly: if God is able and God is love, why does He sometimes choose delay instead of rescue?

The most dangerous assumptions are the ones we never name, and few are more common than this: God loves me because there is something in me worth loving. “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved.” John 10:9 might be the most familiar line many of us have heard used to prove that salvation begins with a human choice. But when we stop treating it like a standalone slogan and follow John’s argument from the beginning, the verse lands with a different kind of force, and a different kind of comfort.

If you’ve ever felt quietly confident because you’re near Christian community or quietly anxious because you’re not sure you “measure up,” John 10 puts its finger on the real issue. We keep hearing a familiar question in church life: does being in the right place with the right people guarantee that I belong to Christ? The answer is both more sobering and far more hopeful than most of us expect, because Jesus draws a sharp line between the sheepfold and the Shepherd.

We pick up the thread straight from John 9, where the man born blind is healed, interrogated, and finally cast out of the synagogue. Then Jesus interprets what just happened by describing the thief who climbs in and the true shepherd who enters by the door. Along the way, we travel back to Genesis 30 to 31 and Jacob’s “marked” flock, where speckled and spotted animals become a picture of God’s prior claim. Salvation is bigger than rescue from guilt. It has a destination. Walking through John 9:35-41, we watch the story of the man born blind reach its final outcome, and it answers a question most of us do not ask often enough: what is God ultimately accomplishing when He saves a sinner?

A man with no credentials walks into a room full of experts and refuses to edit a single line of his story. John 9:24–34 captures the moment the healed man born blind is called back for a second interrogation, and the stakes are no longer theoretical. The religious institution demands, “Give glory to God,” but what they really want is agreement, silence, and control. The moment suffering hits, the human heart reaches for a courtroom: Who did this, and who’s to blame? I start in John 9 with that exact question, then show why Scripture so often refuses to play along. The disciples see a man born blind and assume there must be a moral cause. Jesus answers with a category-shifting sentence: the blindness isn’t punishment, it’s a canvas for “the works of God” to be displayed. 

To make sense of that, we connect three powerful passages that speak directly to the problem of suffering and God’s sovereignty. Leviticus 14 says God can “put” affliction in a house and also bring cleansing, exposing how easily religious thinking turns separation into shame. Job’s story goes even further: a blameless man suffers, his friends demand a hidden sin, and God rebukes their blame framework for misrepresenting him. You can be given a clear direction and still feel lost when there’s no visible destination. Stones in their hands. A single sentence on Jesus’ lips. And a question none of us can dodge: what do we do when the truth goes far enough that it demands surrender? We walk through John 8:48–59 where the conversation reaches its breaking point, not because the evidence is missing, but because the heart resists what it doesn’t want to lose. 

We dig into a word Christians often use casually but rarely define: glory. In Scripture, the glory of God is His revealed reality, made visible and known. “The truth will set you free” might be the most quoted line in John 8, but Jesus doesn’t leave freedom up to our imagination. I’m Pastor Harry Barons, and we slow down in John 8:31–47 to watch Jesus do something surprising: He turns to people who’ve just said they believe and immediately examines what that belief really is. Not to crush them, but to rescue them from a kind of faith that looks right for a moment and then dies off when it gets costly.

We dig into Jesus’ condition for true discipleship: “If you abide in my word.” Abiding means remaining, staying, continuing. It’s not a new self-improvement plan or a religious performance schedule. It’s the posture of a branch living off the vine, receiving life instead of trying to manufacture it. From there, we tackle the promise that follows: knowing the truth and being set free, not by trying harder, but by staying connected to Christ as the source of freedom by grace through faith.

Then the passage gets even sharper. When the crowd claims they’ve never been enslaved, Jesus names the slavery they won’t: everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin, and a slave cannot free themselves. You can spend a lifetime around Jesus and still keep Him at arm’s length. He says it out loud in the brightest place in Jerusalem: “I am the light of the world.” And instead of worship, he gets cross-examined. We’re back in John 8:12–20, where Jesus steps into the same unresolved conflict from John 7 and makes a declaration that leaves no room for neutrality. Easter is easy to summarize and strangely hard to see. We all know the lines: Jesus died, Jesus rose, sins are forgiven. But I want to slow down and ask the question that keeps pressing underneath the familiar story: why did God choose the cross at all, and why this moment in history?

In this episode we will be looking at the fifth and Sixth trumpet judgments. These next two trumpets, will give us a demonic perspective, instead of a heavenly one as we will literally see all hell break loose on the earth. All the judgments prior to these were warning shots, as they were not specifically directed at man, but creation. They were a wakeup call. But now we see the last three trumpets and the three woes all deal with mankind specifically.

The big question with these judgments, is why would God release demons bound in hell to torment man on earth? And on top of that, during this time of torment, man will beg for death and it will not come. What is it about this particular judgment that God will not allow man to die? What is he trying to accomplish and what is the purpose? Why not just let them die as in the previous judgments? As we read the text, We need to remember that Gods desire is that all people are saved. So no matter how bad things get, he is either doing or allowing it to happen because judgment must come, but also, to leave room for repentance and salvation.
