Cory Sims, player #191 on Beast Games, made it all the way to the final round—standing just one step away from the $5 million grand prize. To many, walking away without the money might look like defeat. But for Cory, it wasn’t.

After watching Beast Games, I felt a strong nudge to reach out to him through social media. I had a feeling Cory and his wife might have one to share. Knowing that 1 in 4 women experience pregnancy or infant loss, I wondered if their journey might include both heartbreak and hope.

In today’s episode, Cory opens up about a personal story he and his wife have walked through—three devastating losses and three incredible blessings. Through grief, unanswered questions, and moments where he wished he could take away his wife’s pain, Cory shares what it was like to stand beside her when there was nothing he could do to fix the hurt. Yet through it all, they stayed rooted in God’s Word and prayer, finding strength in their faith even in the hardest moments.

Last July, I had the honor of speaking with Jamie Strahl about her heartbreaking loss and the story of her daughter, Heidi Saint James. Since that conversation, so much has changed.

During our first conversation, I shared some advice with Jamie about how families can help advocate for change in laws surrounding stillbirth and infant loss. Since then, Jamie has turned her grief into action by launching a nonprofit in honor of Heidi Saint James, ensuring her daughter’s life continues to make a lasting impact.

In the midst of advocacy and healing, Jamie has also welcomed a beautiful new baby into her family—a reminder that hope can grow even in the hardest seasons.

Jamie has also joined forces with Kristi Lamarque-Bordelon to advocate for Senate Bill 32, also known as Angel’s Law. This legislation aims to bring meaningful change and support for families experiencing stillbirth and infant loss in Louisiana.

Have you ever met someone you had been praying for… without even knowing who they were yet? 

After nearly 13 years of my personal prayer, God raised up Kristi Lamarque-Bordelon — a compassionate registered nurse with years of experience in bereavement care — to help change the way families are supported after the loss of a baby. Kristi is the face behind Senators proposed Senate Bill 32 known as Angel's Law.

Kristi’s journey began in the place of grief. After the loss of her own child, who was born and died at 20 weeks, her life took an unexpected turn. Nursing had never been part of her plan. Even after completing her prerequisites, she doubted she would be accepted into nursing school. She never wanted to work in labor and delivery — it felt too painful, too close to her own loss. 

She began working with children and, over time, found herself in labor and delivery. During those years, she experienced additional losses and wrestled with questions she didn’t yet understand. Then one day, a fellow nurse told her, “I think you should work in bereavement.” Around that same time, a missionary at church preached on the Great Commission and asked, “Will you go?” Kristi said yes — not knowing where God would send her. That same week, she was approached again about bereavement care. It was then she realized: this was her calling.

One evening, while watching television — something she rarely did — she heard about Everly’s Law. She felt prompted to research what it would take to pass similar legislation in Louisiana. Believing she was simply being obedient, she emailed several legislators. Within a week, Senator Patrick McMath’s office scheduled a conference call.

In this episode, Kristi shares what is currently missing in hospital bereavement care, what compassionate and standardized care should look like, and how cooling devices like a CuddleCot or Caring Cradle can give grieving families the priceless gift of time with their baby. She also speaks to the urgent need for universal education and consistent standards for nurses across Louisiana.

In today’s episode, Ashley Opliger of Bridget’s Cradles shares the powerful story behind her ministry and the life of her daughter, Bridget Faith. Ashley lives in Wichita, Kansas, with her family, and her journey began in 2014 when Bridget was born still at just 24 weeks and 5 days after a pregnancy filled with complications, including a subchorionic hemorrhage, 11 weeks of bed rest, and ultimately a placental abruption.

As Ashley’s mother lovingly prepared for her granddaughter’s early arrival, she felt led by God to knit the sides of a small blanket into what would become a tiny cradle. When Bridget Faith was born weighing only 13 ounces, that handmade cradle allowed Ashley and her family to hold her—a moment of comfort that would forever change Ashley’s life.

After returning home in grief, Ashley cried out to God and felt Him calling her to create Bridget’s Cradles, a ministry that now brings comfort to countless families experiencing loss.

Today on the podcast, I’m joined by my dear friend Stevie Dowd, RN, CDCES. Stevie is a wife, mother of two, Registered Nurse, and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with over a decade of nursing experience. More than seven of those years have been devoted specifically to working with thousands of patients managing various forms of diabetes. Her heart for education and patient care is evident in everything she does.

Stevie’s nursing journey began on an inpatient pediatric unit, where she worked nights as a new RN. As a new mom, the long nights were challenging, and she felt led to seek a role with more consistent daytime hours. That transition led her to a position as a Diabetes Nurse at Willis-Knighton Health System, where she provided inpatient diabetes education across all four Willis-Knighton hospitals. She also taught diabetes classes and offered individualized, one-on-one education and management in office settings.

For a time, Stevie worked at Brentwood Behavioral Health Hospital, but her passion for diabetes education never faded. She eventually returned to that calling, providing telephonic diabetes education programs to patients across multiple states, as well as offering in-home health education. Through every role, Stevie has remained deeply committed to helping people feel informed, supported, and empowered in their health journey.

In today’s episode, we focus on gestational diabetes—a diagnosis that often comes around 28 weeks of pregnancy and can feel overwhelming and unexpected. Stevie compassionately explains what gestational diabetes is, how it’s tested, and practical ways to manage blood sugar during pregnancy. Most importantly, she speaks directly to the heart, reminding listeners that gestational diabetes is not something you caused and is not a personal failure. This episode is filled with reassurance, education, and hope, and I know it will bring comfort to so many families navigating this season.

 In today’s episode, I talk about an important bill currently sitting on Capitol Hill—H.R. 570—introduced by Representative Morgan H. Griffith of Virginia’s 9th District. In 2018, Rep. Griffith heard from a constituent about the unfair financial burden that stillbirth places on mothers, fathers, and families. Unlike many lawmakers, he was deeply moved by their story and began working to change this injustice. I urge you to contact your members of Congress and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 570. Share your story. Let them know the emotional and financial weight families carry after a stillbirth. Our voices matter, and our stories can help move this bill forward so that families across the United States are no longer left to face this painful burden alone.

It never gets old. While scrolling Instagram, I came across Janelle Batucan's page and watched a video of her grieving so deeply that it took me right back to my own journey of loss. My heart ached for her, and I felt led to reach out and ask if she would be willing to share her story.

Even with grief still fresh, Janelle courageously said yes.

So often we see “picture-perfect” moments on social media, but we never truly know the heartbreak someone is carrying behind the smiles. Janelle knows this reality all too well. She has endured unimaginable loss, saying goodbye to two precious babies—Oliver in 2021 and Elianna in 2025.

This podcast was created to honor the precious little lives that were with us for only a moment, yet changed us forever. My hope has always been to walk beside families on the quiet and often unseen road of pregnancy and infant loss — offering comfort, support, and faith-filled encouragement. In today’s episode, Ashley Waters bravely steps out of her comfort zone to share the deeply personal story of her son, Daniel. Daniel was Ashley’s second child — a little boy eagerly anticipated and expected to arrive in April 2023. But just one week before his due date, during a routine appointment, Ashley and her family received devastating news: Daniel’s heart had stopped beating.

Ashley recounts the shock, the trauma, and the indescribable pain of saying goodbye far too soon — a grief that continues, intertwined with a love that never fades. Out of that heartbreak, Daniel’s Drive was born: a mission to honor Daniel’s life by ensuring families facing infant loss receive compassionate bereavement support and are never forced to walk through loss alone.

Each year, Daniel’s Drive hosts an annual golf tournament in celebration of Daniel’s birthday, raising funds to donate Caring Cradles to hospitals across Georgia. These cooling devices offer families the priceless gift of more time — time to hold, love, and say goodbye — something Ashley wishes she had been given with Daniel.

Through love, advocacy, and action, Ashley and her family are transforming grief into purpose. Daniel’s Drive continues to bring comfort, awareness, and hope — one cradle, one family, one story at a time.

Three years ago, I met Nina Doherty in Washington, D.C., where we were both advocating for the SHINE for Autumn Act and the Stillbirth Prevention Act. Today, Nina opens up about the heartbreaking loss of her grandbaby, Stella Joy — a tragedy that brought a double portion of grief as she mourned both her grandchild and the pain her daughter was enduring.

Nina, a mother of three with healthy pregnancies of her own, was shocked when her oldest daughter lost her baby at the end of what had been a picture-perfect pregnancy. One phone call changed everything: her granddaughter had died. Stillbirth remains overlooked and under-discussed in our country, leaving families unprepared and unsupported.

In the midst of her grief, Nina stepped into advocacy — raising awareness, fighting for change, and urging others to use their voices. In this episode, I share a deeply meaningful moment—watching a longtime friend of mine, Robin Kent, officially be sworn in as a CASA worker. As a former foster child who once had my own CASA advocate, a kind woman from England named Mrs. Shirley Williams, this experience felt incredibly full-circle.

During the ceremony, I also met my friend’s supervisor, Bersheika Player-Harris. She is the CASA Outreach and Training Coordinator in Shreveport and works for the Volunteers for Youth Justice. Seeing her pregnant reminded me of the importance of sharing the Count the Kicks app—something close to the hearts of many who’ve experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Our conversation also brought me back to the powerful impact CASA workers have on the lives of children in foster care.

Today, Bersheika joins us to talk about what it truly means to be a CASA worker. A Court Appointed Special Advocate speaks with the child, their family, foster parents, teachers, and others to understand the child’s needs. They provide the court with vital, objective information that helps judges make decisions about a child’s future.

I first met Dr. Kerri Aronson in 2024 when she was pregnant and advocating in Washington, D.C. — like so many of us there, determined to get the attention of our legislators and bring awareness to the heartbreak of preventable stillbirth. Our hope was simple: to show why bills like the SHINE for Autumn Act (H.R. 5469/S. 2858) are so desperately needed.

Kerri’s story began as she prepared for her scheduled C-section to welcome her daughter. But when her baby’s movements suddenly changed, she knew something was wrong. Like too many mothers, Kerri delivered her stillborn baby — and soon began searching for answers and ways to make a difference.

Her search led her to Debbie Haine Vijayvergiya, the driving force behind the SHINE for Autumn Act, and to the organization Healthy Birth Day. After reaching out, Kerri received an invitation to join them in Washington, D.C. to advocate for legislation that could save lives — including the Stillbirth Prevention Act, which successfully passed in 2024.

Brianna Sistrunk, Mrs. Alabama America 2025, is the perfect example of beauty, strength, and purpose. At first glance, you might assume her journey has been easy—but behind the crown is a story of unimaginable loss and unwavering faith.

In 2015, Brianna faced the heartbreak of losing her daughter, Madison Reign, who was born still at 19 weeks gestation. She has also endured an ectopic pregnancy. Out of that pain, Brianna found her purpose—using her platform to advocate for women who have experienced pregnancy loss, infant loss, and preterm labor.

Pageantry became more than just a competition for her—it became a mission. Through her role as Mrs. Alabama America 2025, Brianna is a voice for countless women walking through grief, reminding them that they are not alone.

In this heartfelt episode, Brianna shares her journey to the crown, her daughter’s beautiful legacy, and how her faith in Jesus Christ continues to carry her through every season. Finally, more organizations are beginning to acknowledge the deep pain and grief families experience when they lose a baby within the first three months of pregnancy. Since launching the Juliana Grace Ministry, I’ve heard countless stories from mothers who feel isolated after a miscarriage—a word I absolutely hate. Too often, doctors and hospital staff make insensitive comments, leaving families feeling dismissed in their pain.

That’s why creating the Miscarried Child Certificate in Louisiana was so important—to bring dignity and recognition to every life, even those lost before 20 weeks.

I’m so grateful to welcome Kenzi Covarrubias the Vice President of Held in Hope to today’s episode. Held in Hope provides miscarriage kits designed to support and equip women walking through first-trimester pregnancy loss. These kits are distributed through OBGYNs, emergency departments, midwife practices, care centers—and are now shipped across the United States.

I’ve been following Sarah Lingle on Instagram since 2024, drawn to her faith-filled encouragement for mothers like me who have experienced the loss of a baby. Sarah’s story began while she was already serving as a doula. In January 2021, she faced unimaginable heartbreak when she lost her first baby, lovingly named Peanut.

In this episode, Sarah shares the deeply personal story of her pregnancy, the day she was rushed to the hospital, and the shocking encounter with a nurse more focused on COVID protocols than her own wellbeing. She walks us through the moment she went into labor and gave birth to her baby—an experience that powerfully affirms what so many of us know to be true: miscarriage is still giving birth.

By the grace of God, Sarah’s story didn’t end there. After a long season of infertility, she welcomed her rainbow baby in February 2023. Today, as a certified Birth and Bereavement Doula, Sarah uses her own story of loss and redemption to serve and comfort other mothers at every stage of their journey to motherhood.

Today’s episode wraps up my trip to Washington, D.C. from last month — and what an incredible finish it was! I had two days left, and it began with the SHINE for Autumn Act being introduced on the House side. I spent the day meeting with several Louisiana leaders — congressmen, congresswomen, and senators — and to my surprise, Congressman Cleo Fields signed on to the bill right in front of us. I felt so favored by the Lord and deeply privileged to be part of this important work.

On Thursday, September 18th, I met with Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Congresswoman Julia Letlow, Congressman Troy Carter, and Senator John Kennedy. As I headed to the airport, I had one last, unexpected moment — meeting Senator Ted Cruz, which truly felt like the cherry on top of an already unforgettable trip.

I hope this episode encourages you to have faith, step out boldly, and make a difference right where you are. And as a quick update: Congressman H. Morgan Griffith from Virginia has introduced bill HR 570, which would provide families a $2,000 tax credit if they’ve experienced a stillbirth.

When Buddy Shuh stepped onto the set of The Biggest Loser in 2012, millions of viewers saw a man determined to reclaim his health. What they didn’t see was the deeper story—the heartbreak that had quietly shaped his life for years.

Back in 2006, Buddy and his wife were joyfully preparing to welcome their baby girl when a routine prenatal appointment turned their world upside down. Doctors discovered their daughter was missing several vital organs and diagnosed her with spina bifida, leaving only a slim chance of survival. Against all odds, she was born with a cry that filled the room and lived for five and a half precious months before passing away on March 8, 2006.

Buddy opens up about those raw days: the bittersweet moments holding his daughter, the calls no parent ever wants to make, and the heartbreak of meeting a funeral director just hours after her passing. Financially unprepared, he wrestled with guilt and self-doubt, carrying both emotional and physical weight as the years passed.

A simple phone call from his brother in 2011 changed everything. Together, they auditioned for The Biggest Loser—and to Buddy’s shock, he was chosen from hundreds of thousands of hopefuls. On Season 13, he shared his daughter’s story with more than ten million viewers, transforming his grief into testimony.

That visibility led to a life-changing invitation from The Tears Foundation, an organization founded by Sarah Slack after the loss of her son Jesse. What began as Sarah’s mission to help one family afford a headstone has grown into an international movement—offering financial help for funeral expenses, emotional support, and a community of love and healing for grieving families.

In this episode, Buddy reflects on the road from loss to purpose: how The Biggest Loser gave him a platform, how TEARS gave him a mission, and how even in the darkest chapters, hope can emerge.

Today, I open up and share a story I have never spoken about publicly before—the story of my brother’s death. While it was ruled as SIDS, I’ve carried the belief in my heart that his life was taken for monetary gain. My biological father had a desire to profit from the twins—or even through my death—and that shadow has followed me for decades.

In this episode, I share the details and events that unfolded both before and after my brother’s passing, moments that have weighed heavily on me for the last 32 years.

What gave me the courage to finally bring this story into the light was hearing Linda from He Knows Your Name Ministry in Episode 53. Her testimony reminded me that every life has value, and that silence doesn’t honor the ones we’ve lost.

My brother’s life mattered then. It still matters today.

Just after the one-year anniversary of Rebecca Mitchell’s son Jonathan’s stillbirth, she came across a baby’s obituary in the Dallas newspaper and felt compelled to send the grieving mother a sympathy card. In this short but powerful episode, I’m joined by Jen Rowray of Healthy Birth Day, Inc. and Count the Kicks to talk about an important cause—stillbirth prevention. I share my plans to travel to Washington, D.C. from September 17–19 to advocate for legislative change and life-saving awareness. One of the key efforts we’re supporting is the Shine for Autumn Act, which seeks to improve stillbirth data collection—something critically needed, as many stillbirths go unrecorded, hindering public health efforts to prevent them. The act also calls for increased access to fetal autopsy training to address the nationwide shortage of perinatal pathologists, and it aims to bring much-needed education and awareness to parents—many of whom have never even heard of stillbirth or prevention until they’ve experienced it firsthand. While in D.C., we will talk to legislators about the change we need to save lives—sharing our personal stories and the proven data that has already helped prevent countless stillbirths. We also discuss National Stillbirth Prevention Day, observed on September 19th, a day dedicated to honoring families affected by stillbirth and promoting initiatives to save lives. Additionally, we highlight the exciting launch of Count the Kicks in Louisiana, a state that loses an average of 344 babies to stillbirth each year. With its proven impact, Count the Kicks has the potential to save 1 in 3 at-risk babies—an estimated 97 lives annually in Louisiana alone. In this episode, I sit down with my new friend and fellow homeschooling mom, Candace MacDaniels. Candace’s story is one of control, surrender, and challenging faith. After receiving a kidney transplant 25 years ago, she became immunocompromised and later developed autonomic dysfunction. Convinced that motherhood wasn’t in the cards due to her health, she set out to chase her dreams—until she met her husband.

In this powerful episode, I sit down with Texas Representative Mihaela Plesa, the woman behind Everly’s Law (HB 37)—a groundbreaking bill that lays the foundation for improved prenatal bereavement care in Texas and, we hope, nationwide.

This landmark legislation was inspired by a heartfelt conversation during her campaign—when a neighbor vulnerably shared her story of losing her baby, Everly Grace Talman. That moment became the seed of real change. Everly’s Law ensures that families facing stillbirth, neonatal death, or fetal demise are met with compassionate care, counseling, and innovative bereavement technology. As of now there is no standard of care.

Right now, there is no consistent standard of care. Too often, families are rushed out of the hospital, their time with their baby cut short—leaving wounds that never fully heal. Everly’s Law changes that. It ensures families receive compassionate support, access to bereavement technology, and time to grieve with dignity. 

Representative Plesa walks us through what it took to pass this life-changing bill, how it will be implemented across hospitals by September 1, 2025, and why this is only the beginning.

In May 2018, Brandon Isaac found himself facing the unthinkable. His wife, Tomeka, lay unconscious in a hospital bed, fighting for her life after being diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome—a life-threatening pregnancy complication. Just weeks from her due date, their son, Jace Alexander, no longer had a heartbeat. Tomeka endured 45 days in the hospital, survived 7 major surgeries, and ultimately walked out of the hospital alive, though forever changed. Her survival was nothing short of miraculous, thanks to urgent medical intervention, skilled doctors, and the power of prayer.

But the Isaacs soon learned that Tomeka’s illness and Jace’s death could have been prevented. Out of their heartbreak was born Jace’s Journey, an initiative dedicated to raising awareness about maternal health disparities and the urgent need for better care. This Foundation was born out of Dr. Wimmers own loss when her son Garrett was born still at term in 2004.

Today on the podcast, we’re honored to share the story of Brenda Dalton — a former NICU and OB nurse since 1982, who turned a deeply personal experience into a mission to serve others. After receiving poor medical advice about nursing her own child, Brenda realized something bigger: if someone with her background could be misinformed, what kind of support was the wider community missing?

That realization led her to become a certified lactation consultant. Now, she helps mothers understand their options — whether that’s when to start nursing, how to do it in a way that works for them, or even when and how to stop. Brenda empowers families with both knowledge and compassion — a voice so needed in this space.

She also provides support during heartbreaking moments, like when milk comes in after the loss of a child. Brenda gently helps mothers navigate what to do with that milk, and how to ease the physical and emotional pain that comes with it.

But her care doesn’t stop there. Brenda also sews handmade gowns for premature babies and those in the NICU through a national nonprofit called Threads of Love. Her heart was drawn to this work after witnessing how a grieving family was handed their baby’s belongings. She went home that day, sewed a beautiful fabric envelope, and gave those items back in a way that felt tender and dignified.

Brenda’s story is one of compassion, advocacy, and showing up for others in moments that matter most.

September 2013, I received a phone call from a stranger, Jennifer Campbell. I was about to head to the hospital to deliver my baby who died. I didn't know what to expect and was completely terrified. Jennifer would give me information that forever held close to my heart. "Lisa you can do this and you will survive this." I remember her telling me over and over I could do this. She began preparing me on what to expect and how my baby may look. She told me the importance of carrying Julianna in my arms and taking pictures. I was beside myself and couldn't imagine everything she was telling me to expect. We both cried and she prayed right before we hung up. Jennifer would later send me a basket filled with books and letters from other mothers who also lost their babies. She is one of many reasons why I started the Julianna Grace Ministry.

Jennifer Campbell runs the Heart of Grace Ministry out of the First Baptist Church in Minden, Louisiana. Even though it is a quiet ministry, this ministry has reached so many who are grieving the loss of a baby. This ministry was born out of her own grief. She decided to break the silence in her own community. This was a topic she had to get out of the darkness. Brittany Oaks called me last year as I was traveling to Washington, D.C. At that moment, I could hear her passion and commitment to a cause very close to her heart. We have reconnected, and she shared some incredible news. Brittany has started a new chapter for Now We Lay Me Down, focusing on stillbirth photography. Her journey in this field began with her successful photography business in Arkansas and her involvement with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS), where she captured precious memories for grieving families.

Upon moving to Bossier City, Louisiana, Brittany didn't hesitate to establish this chapter. She recognized a significant need for a dedicated NILMDTS photographer in our area. This initiative is not just about photography; it's about providing families with a way to capture their beautiful photos of their baby. Brittany's insight into the healing power of these images reveals how crucial it is to honor and remember. Yet, she understands that this type of work is sensitive and requires a compassionate touch. 

Brittany’s determination and empathy make her an incredible resource for families dealing with loss. Through her photography, she helps people process their grief while celebrating the beauty of each life. As she shares her experiences and the role of stillbirth photography, it becomes clear that this service is a vital support for those navigating the most heartbreaking moments. Cayse Holland Cunningham carries a story etched in resilience and faith. Her journey to motherhood was fraught with challenges, enduring ten years of waiting and ultimately turning to IVF to conceive. They named her baby Hope, a name that would touch many lives. Yet, at 20 weeks, Hope's life was threatened when Cayse's water broke prematurely. Rushed to the hospital, she received the diagnosis of PPROM, placing her on strict bed rest with the aim of reaching 30 weeks for a planned C-section. The onset of the Covid pandemic amplified the stress, culminating in an emergency C-section at just 26 weeks. Although Hope initially showed promise, connected to a breathing monitor, hope soon turned to heartbreak. 

Cayse's narrative extends beyond this loss, overcoming divorce and unexpectantly finding love again. It's a testament to the unwavering hope she finds in Christ, a hope she now shares through Hope Journals, a ministry dedicated to providing scriptures of hope to those in need. Her journey is a powerful reminder of the possibility of finding light even in the darkest of times.

Rhonda Barnes carries a pain that no grandparent should ever know – the loss of her beloved grandson, Dominic, who passed away in her arms on July 29th, 2015. The devastation threatened to consume her, but as a mother, grandmother, and a registered nurse, Rhonda instinctively shifted into caretaker mode. A natural fixer, she desperately sought to understand the 'why' behind Dominic's passing, while simultaneously striving to be a pillar of strength for her grieving family. 

In her role as a New Parent Support Program (NPSP) visitor and registered nurse, Rhonda dedicates her life to supporting families during the crucial early years of parenthood. She visits homes of expectant parents and those with children under 36 months, providing education and guidance on a wide range of topics, from the initial homecoming to the challenges of feeding solids, potty training, and discipline. Listen in as Rhonda shares how a simple, yet profound, statement from a social worker gave her the permission she needed to truly grieve.

In 2023, our paths crossed in Washington D.C., both of us at the beginning stages of our advocacy for change surrounding stillbirth. It was there I met Meghan Stevenot, a devoted wife, loving mother, and now, a passionate advocate for preventable stillbirth. Today, Meghan courageously shares her personal story of losing her son, Charlie, at 30 weeks gestation in 2020. She recounts the subtle yet significant changes she observed in Charlie's fetal movements, a warning sign tragically overlooked by many mothers. She retells her story on the days leading up to and following Charlie's passing, a story she shares with unwavering strength in the hope of preventing similar tragedies.

In the midst of grief following Julianna's death, the concept of lament, a common thread woven throughout the scriptures, began to resonate deeply. Seeking understanding and comfort, I turned to the familiar comfort of my bible-teaching church and the wisdom of the older women within the congregation. I asked them questions, desperately trying to reconcile my faith with the seemingly senseless loss, striving to truly understand the character of this Christian God. It was through their guidance and the scriptures themselves that I began to see lament not as a sign of weakness, but as a powerful way to pour out my anguish before the Lord. I hope that sharing this bittersweet journey encourages you to embrace your own moments of lament. I pray you see the freedom and healing that can be found in honestly expressing grief to God.

What is the Julianna Grace Ministry? Today I share the journey I went on the Lord and how we started the ministry. It was my faith and hope in Jesus Christ that started me on this journey. I hope this encourages you to start your faith Journey with Christ or even encourages you to begin your own ministry or nonprofit. 

​Our mission, at Julianna Grace Ministry, is to provide grieving baskets to mothers or families who have lost babies due to miscarriage, stillbirth or early infant loss. We provide baskets with books, information, resources, and comfort items such as music, necklaces, candles, etc. items that help families cope with and process the loss of a baby. When people hear that someone they love has lost a baby many want to do something to help with the grieving process but don’t know what to do, this ministry helps with that need. We are able to let friends and family know what to buy or what to say. This ministry is a Christ centered. Our greatest desire is to help grieving parents and families find their hope and peace in Jesus Christ.

Rosario Melara, or Rosie as she prefers to be called, is a high school Spanish teacher in North Carolina with a story etched in both profound sorrow and unwavering strength. She was recommended to me as she had a unique story that would connect with others facing loss. Rosie has navigated a heartbreaking journey, including the stillbirth of her daughter Ana Mary in 2010, the subsequent loss of her parents, and the eventual end of her marriage. Lindsay Lowery was expecting and preparing for her niece, Helen, to arrive but like many of us, she received a dreadful phone call in 2018 that her niece had passed in the womb at 38 weeks. Lindsay was living out side the United States and had to make arrangements to be with her sister while trying to process the loss. Her sister was offered a Cuddle Cot and it provided the time needed for Lindsay and the rest of their family to arrive to hold the niece.  This simple but essential device left an impact on her family. Soon her sister started the Helen James Foundation which supports grieving families who have experienced a pregnancy and infant loss or infertility.

Profoundly affected by her niece's passing, Lindsay was moved to action. She contacted Flexmort, the company behind the Cuddle Cot, expressing her desire to contribute if they ever expanded their American team. Just two weeks later, she joined their ranks, embarking on a mission to bring comfort and support to countless other grieving families, forever changing the trajectory of their lives.

Since we are now in tax season, today I wanted to share my experience with helping pass the Louisiana Stillbirth Tax Credit. I share how I along with some other loss moms and Kimberly Novod with Saul's Light helped change the hearts and minds of Louisiana politicians to pass this $2,000 one time tax credit. 

Finally, Louisiana residents will have help with the financial burden families and individuals have when we lose a baby is stillborn. The bills come, funeral cost are expensive and life doesn't stop.

Robbin Kent and I have been friends for many years. Robbin worked in the school system as a counselor for almost 20 years. She helped kids realize their potential was endless and to never to give up! She now is a creation coach and an online marketing messaging coach.

I recorded this video now audio 6 years ago. I didn't know all what God was going to do. I decided to test God in praying He would do something with Julianna's death. When a baby is born we immediately have a mama bear protective instinct. For people like ourselves who have lost a baby in a miscarriage, stillbirth or had an early infant loss, that instinct is still there. The love, expectance and joy is still there but mixed with grief. We have this love that we still need to express. I list some practical ways we can honor our children. Remember, there is no easy, right or wrong way to do this. Give yourself grace. Grief is hard. I give this advice along as i remember grabbing Gods hand constantly trying to make sense of it all. Again, and again I'll say give yourself grace in this journey.

I met Samantha on Capital Hill. She like many of us lost her first born baby, but again like so many of the women here on this podcast instead of ignoring the stillbirth crisis in America she dove into research to help solve the problem. 

Even though her doctor told her that her pregnancy was  a “low risk” pregnancy she uncovered the real truth about stillbirth in America or the utter lack of progress in improving the US stillbirth rate.

Following her daughter's death, Samantha became known within the loss community for her candid writing on grief and has been featured in The Washington Post, TODAY, ProPublica, and ABC News. She survived the harrowing experience of two subsequent pregnancies, delivering a healthy son and second daughter. Meredith and her high school sweetheart were a young military couple when they welcomed their first child. Meredith did have preeclampsia with her first born but that didn't stop her from having another baby. Soon their family grew with the arrival of Fiona Grace, a precious addition that filled their hearts. However, one Sunday morning would turn their lives upside down. When Meredith and her husband woke up they were surprised that Fiona had slept through the night. However, when they reached for her, they found Fiona unresponsive in her crib.

Meredith and her husband would call emergency services. Soon strangers would come into her home, perform CPR on Fiona as they took her body away. The military police would begin investigating to determine if Fiona’s death was foul play. Meredith, who normally had a bubbly personality, struggled to comprehend the magnitude of her loss.

In those overwhelming moments, God became her anchor. Meredith reflects on how her faith carried her through the despair that almost consumed her. A few months after her loss she received a gift from the Julianna Grace Ministry, which provided a basket filled with comforting items and heartfelt reminders that she was not alone.  God saw her, loved her and didn't forget her.

On my podcast today, I had the immense honor of interviewing Grammy-nominated artist ⁠Tedashii⁠. A founding member of Reach Records, Tedashii is a multifaceted individual who has graced the world with his talents as an established artist, speaker, writer, leader, husband, father, and so much more. He is one of my favorite faith-based rappers, known for his ability to articulate the depths of pain in a manner reminiscent of David's Psalms.

Having endured poverty, bullying, and the loss of loved ones, including his son Chase, Tedashii's resilience is an inspiration. Like many who have experienced the depths of grief, he reached a point where he desired to end his life. However, God had a different plan for him.

Prepare yourself with tissues and consider rewinding the interview several times as Tedashii recounts his moving testimony of the profound grief he experienced after losing his beloved son Chase. Jessica Michel and I are advocating for the same 2 bills, The Shine tor Autumn Act and tne Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act. I met her in Washington DC last year. Since than she has become very active in advocating to save babies lives from preventable stillbirth. Jessica recently got involved with another life saving organization called Measure the Placenta. lf she knew of these life saving measures that like EPV, maybe she could have saved Freya's life. Now, instead of sitting on the sidelines, she is sharing her journey and bring hope and comfort to other families.

In 2018, the Boggs family seemed to be in a good place in life. Walker and Natalie were on fire for Christ, learning and taking in the scriptures. Their life seemed picture perfect when they received a phone call that would alter the course of their lives. Barrett went Home at just shy of being 5 months old. However, his little life would have a great purpose that has impacted thousands of families across the world. The Boggs family were in shock and grief but prayed that God would use Barrett. Through that prayer the⁠ Barrett's Bears Ministry⁠ was born. 

Natalie and I were connected soon after her loss. I sent a grief basket that was delivered to her at church. You’ll hear what transpired and how our friendship deepened. She, in her greatest grief, wrote short devotions to the Lord. Crying out to God and seeking Him daily. You could almost see her on her knees reaching out to Jesus as her only lifeline. She was constantly on my mind. The Lord was using her and I asked her and encouraged her to write short devotionals on my group page. Little by little a planted seed for ministry began to grow in her heart. Through her faith she began Barrett's Bears Ministry, where she encouraged other mothers, parents and families to seek the Lord in their greatest trials.

 Samantha shared her inspiring story about how her mother came to America in search of a better life. Growing up, she excelled in school and went on to attend college, where she eventually met her husband. After years of dating, they both graduated and traveled before settling down in stable jobs and purchasing their first home. Feeling financially secure, they decided to start a family. As a labor and delivery nurse, Samantha was well-informed about pregnancy and the signs to look out for to prevent stillbirth. Despite her knowledge and experience, she was not immune to the possibility of facing such a heartbreaking outcome.

Samantha shares how just at 37 weeks along she gave birth to Selena Sophia Gutierrez  on October 29th, 2022.

The Wave of Light is an annual event that takes place on October 15th to honor babies who have died during pregnancy, childbirth, or infancy. It is part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, which was proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. 

To participate in the Wave of Light, people around the world light candles at 7 PM local time and leave them burning for at least one hour. This can be done individually or in a group, at home or in a public space. Some people also post photos of their candles on social media using the hashtag #WaveOfLight. 

The Wave of Light is a way for families and friends to come together to remember their loved ones and to show support for others who have experienced loss.

I met ⁠Mary online over memes, our faith and through our losses. Mary is not only a wife, mother, school phycologist, but she is also a social media influencer. She uses her social media to spread hope by sharing insights about her grief journey. She has become a safe place for anyone needing permission to grieve, find hope and encouragement.

Mrs. Utah America 2023 Baylee Demars⁠, is using her platform to put a voice to miscarriage and stillbirth. Baylee has chosen this topic as she lost her baby when she was 10 weeks pregnant. Just to warn you she is very raw and shares the grief and loneliness one can feel after a loss. She continues to advocate and brings light to loss as she shares her story with anyone who needs to hear it.

I had the great pleasure of meeting ⁠Ana Lepe Vick⁠ in Washington DC in May of 2023. About 50 of us set up meetings with Congressmen and Women to advocate for the ⁠Shine For Autumn Act⁠ and the ⁠Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act.⁠

 After a healthy first born daughter, Ana had a miscarriage, the stillbirth of our son Owen, and a missed miscarriage. It was such a dark period as she was feeling so devastated by our losses and broken as a woman who couldn’t seem to carry to term again. Delivering Owen by crash c-section late one evening after I noticed decreased fetal movement and finding out when she awoke that he didn’t survive was the most traumatic event of our lives, but the miscarriages also felt devastating because her and her husband wanted so badly to give their daughter a sibling to grow up with. Ana will never stop missing the babies that should’ve been here with their two living siblings, a piece of Ana died with them though she carries their memory with her in her advocacy efforts (non-profit ⁠PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy⁠) and every day life. Her children are always loved and forever part of our family. Ana is the Co-Director of Medical Innovation & Advancement at PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy.

I met Kila Gonzales over the phone a few years ago as she was starting up her nonprofit. She was my answer to a prayer. She runs a non profit called ⁠I Will Carry You: Birth and Bereavement Doula Services.⁠ Her nonprofit serves the families who have received a terminal diagnosis and families whose babies will be born still. Kila has an amazing story about her own loss and like the go getter she is, she refused to sit around on the sidelines. She is a nurse and naturally has a servants heart so serving those who grieves came naturally. After the Lord put this dream in her heart she didn't wait long before starting and serving mothers and families who will endure one of the worst experiences of their lives. She and her nonprofit has been a light to so many families who have and will endure loss. We had an amazing conversation.

 Moving on—that’s what everyone says we have to do after a loss. But as I tried to move forward, even everyday tasks like doing laundry felt unbearable, as if I was leaving my baby behind all over again. My body changed in ways I hadn’t expected, with milk coming in and reminders of loss at every turn. Then came the bills—unwelcome and overwhelming. When my family left, their departure felt like another kind of loss, and it seemed like everyone else was ready to move on except me.

 As I prepared to give birth, I was confronted with the reality of my own mortality. Instead of hearing a loud cry, Julianna entered this world in complete silence. It may seem shocking, but when a new friend opened up to me about her stillbirth, my first instinct was to pull away. I didn’t know what to say. I felt awkward, overwhelmed—and honestly, afraid of saying the wrong thing.

Unfortunately, this reaction is more common than we’d like to admit. Miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss are deeply painful and still so taboo that many people don't know how to respond—or even how to talk about them at all.

But avoiding the conversation only deepens the isolation grieving parents already feel. That’s why this podcast exists. I want to create a space where we can be real, raw, and unapologetic about loss.

By opening up these hard conversations, we can break the silence and stigma surrounding pregnancy and infant loss. We can offer real hope and healing—and remind women everywhere that they are not alone.

Together, we’re building a platform for compassion, education, and support—because grief deserves to be seen, and every baby’s life deserves to be honored.

10 years ago I asked God why and what was He going to do with my grief. Hello, my name is Lisa Rowell. My daughter Julianna Grace was born still in 2013. In grief and lamenting before God,  I felt this sudden urge to help those like myself. Throughout the past decade I’ve learned a thing or two about loss. No one person grieves the same but we all want to make sense of it. 

This Podcast aims to raise awareness on stillbirth, miscarriage, and infant loss, shedding light on these often overlooked issues. My Christian faith plays a significant role in how I survived my own loss, inspiring me to establish the Julianna Grace Ministry. I first began giving out grieving baskets to those who have lost a baby in a miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS or had an early infant loss. That led to raising money to donate a cuddle cot and caring cradle to hospitals in my city. Later, I helped pass legislation to give parents a tax credit for those who have had a stillbirth and a certificate dignifying babies who were lost in a miscarriage. I advocate for addressing the silent crisis of stillbirth through legislation in Louisiana and across the country, emphasizing the need to give dignity to all babies who have been lost too soon. Through my God given skills, I seek to bring hope and healing to those who have been affected by these heartbreaking circumstances.

This Podcast also addresses the need for legislative action to address the preventable stillbirth crisis in America. It discusses the importance of apps that monitor fetal and placenta health and the availability of certificates and tax credits for families who have experienced infant loss. By raising awareness and advocating for change, the podcast empowers parents through education to advocate for the lives of their lost children and future pregnancies.
