Helaman 11: Gadianton Wannabes

This episode is absolutely all over the place in terms of righteousness—in the beginning, the Nephites are wicked, then they get righteous, then they get wicked and the Gadianton Robbers (who were exterminated earlier in the chapter) reform a few years later in a slightly different form, the people get a little righteouser and then return to being wicked..... yeah. It's a lot. I feel for Nephi right now.

Helaman 10: The Sealing Power

This episode, we read as Nephi the prophet, after the whole debacle of the murder last chapter, receives the sealing power from God. It's a very dramatic scene. Once Nephi receives this earth-shattering power, and a message from God to the people, he doesn't even go home. He goes straight to preach to everyone he can possibly get himself in front of.

Helaman 9: A Confession

In this episode, not only do five people go to check whether or not Nephi's bold prophecy (that the Chief Judge was dead) was true, but those same five people get convicted for his murder and nearly killed. They're converted and later freed, after Nephi prophesies AGAIN exactly how to get a confession out of the real killer (the chief judge's brother). Very dramatic. 10/10 would watch again. This has been my Letterboxd review.

Helaman 8: Prophets Through the Ages

Because they are not sending the armies, food and weapons needed for the Nephites to be supported on the war front. Or, as Moroni might put it: The people in Zarahemla are lazing around on their thrones in a thoughtless stupor, too power-hungry to send any armies their way. That's no hyperbole.

Alma 47: The Lehonti Principle

Alma 45: The Mantle of Alma

Alma 40: The Resurrection(s)

Alma 35: Refugees

The Lamanites (spurred by the Amalekites.... again) attacked the defenseless Ammonites and so Ammon convinced the king to seek shelter among the Nephites. Things, of course, go well!

Alma 26: Boasting of God

Alma 25: Taking Responsibility

This chapter, we read a bit more of Jacob quoting from Isaiah to the people of Nephi, this time paralleling Isaiah 50. There are some awesome verses in this chapter, all about how much of a (spiritual) hulk the Lord is. Pretty awesome.

And yes I did 100% forget to do a standout verse this episode - for reference, it would've been verse 6.

2 Nephi 4: The Psalm of Nephi

I, for one, think the term "psalm of Nephi" fits this chapter just right. In this chapter, we get some of the final (written) words of the great prophet Lehi before he dies, and then an extremely powerful prayer from Nephi to God—all about his deep yearning to overcome sin and become closer to Him. Needless to say... I was internally squee-ing when reading most of this chapter :)

2 Nephi 2: Opposition in All Things

This is one of my favorite chapters so far!! It includes one of my favorite verses in all of the BoM, which is definitely saying something. This chapter is more of Lehi explaining things to his kids, and in this chapter, he gets really into the weeds. Why do we need commandments? Why does obedience matter? Why do bad things happen? All big questions that Lehi takes a stab at answering.

2 Nephi 1: Zoram's Still Here :)

In this episode, we read the final chapter of the first book of Nephi!! This chapter is definitely a worthy wrap-up to the first chunk of the BoM. Nephi gets into explaining to his brothers exactly why he is a fanboy of the two Isaiah chapters that he quoted to us, and within his explanation are some really poignant nuggets of wisdom.

(you'll find that poignant is kinda the word of the day this episode...)
