I was just getting over having a really bad cold that knocked me out for a few days and as I was waking up I could feel my head pounding, the beginning of a really bad headache. I desperately wanted to go back to bed because I knew it was too early to get up and I was still tired, but I also knew that I wouldn’t be able to go back to bed with my head hurting the way it was. After about ten minutes of fretting over what to do, I remembered a strategy I used to help heal my IBS and decided to try it with my headache and see if it worked. I had heard and studied already a bit about the Hero’s Journey, but the concept of a Heroine’s Journey was new to me and I was immediately fascinated to how I felt it connected with IBS. </p><p>Once I researched and read more deeply on what the Heroine’s journey was the more I thought that this was exactly what my IBS story has been for me. I mentioned having a conversation with my husband about needing to do this practice and asking for his support so that I could get away by myself for twenty or thirty minutes to just breathe and have this hot blanket on my tummy when I was in pain. I realized as I was describing this practice and it’s high efficacy for my healing that part of the battle of dealing with your IBS is asking for the help that you really need from the people in your life that are there to support you.
