Mike was co-hosting open mic nights in the Region when he met Karl. While playing some original music at the open mic nights, the guys knew that the music felt elevated and something good was going on. Mike and Karl, along with the Region Buzz 219 team went into the studio in March of 2025. Toward the end of the sessions Mike and Karl talked of forming a band. Cxpital is a 3-piece Indie/Alternative Rock band from the region of Northwest Indiana, USA. The band is composed of, drummer Benji Grimler, and lead guitarist Tyler Maximoff; while accompanied by vocalist and rhythm guitarist/bassist Lucie Ashmore, originally from Greystones, Ireland.

After meeting and forming in 2017 under the name WAVES, Ashmore and Maximoff independently recorded and released a 4-track EP titled After // Thoughts, a collection of songs inspired by the lyrical and musical techniques of alternative rock band Pvris. About a year later, the two were introduced to Benji and continued from there as a 3-piece.

Influences range from old-school Coldplay, to the current indie sounds of Paramore, with everything from The Maine, The Aces, Pvris and The Strokes also thrown into the mix.

Dead Freddie's original music is a blend of garage, glam, punk, post-punk, power pop, ska and straight up rock. The original group, called Dead Freddie Band, formed in 1979 on the southwest side of Chicago.  The group played mainly original material but was certainly influenced by the then new Punk movement. The original group disbanded in 1982, but the DNA of the original sound continues with the current line up which goes back to 2013.

"Hendrix Effect" is a Jimi Hendrix dedication band from Northwest Indiana, Chicagoland. Hendrix Effect started in Feb 2023, as a side project for Paul, Roger & Jesse to perform their favorite Jimi Hendrix songs at open mic nights across the Region. Jimi’s catalog is so deep with “blues, rock, and freak-out tunes” as he himself labeled it. While ‘Are You Experienced?’ boasts his essentials, they try to take their listeners through equal selections from all 3 albums as well as the Band of Gypsys and some rarities that true die hard fans will love.

Making new music during the pandemic was never difficult for the Chicago retro rock and soul band Hollyy. Unlike other artists who took long breaks or lost their creative strides, the members of Hollyy said little changed for the five-piece band, at least in terms of their desire to create. In fact, things might have gotten a little bit better. The results of this can be heard on their EP, “If You’re Ever Lost,” released in 2022. The guys stopped by the studio to fill us in and what's ahead for the band.

Americana artist Eric Case is a singer/songwriter based in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. Raised on rock and roll, soul music, and a steady diet of “Willie, Waylon and the Boys” (plus Johnny Cash), Eric started playing live at 18 and has been at it ever since. He has spent time in the Midwest, the west, and the south, and those influences—as well as the Southern California singer/songwriter sound—are easy to pick out in the tunes. We had Eric and Aubrey in the studio, and we tried to crack the case by interrogating them.

The Midnight Calls is a denim and leather Rock & Roll outfit from Chicago. The band is fronted by Spain-born singer, Taran de Pablos and features guitarists Adam Arling (The Last Vegas, Urge Overkill, Warrior Soul) and Tony McQuaid (Loudmouth, Frank Bang & the Secret Stash), bassist Sean Barnes and drummer Chuck Harling. Their music is heavily influenced by the blues-infused sounds of classic bands like Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones or AC/DC. With a recipe based on grooves, hooks, and loud guitars as the main ingredients, The Midnight Calls are not reinventing the Rock & Roll wheel, but rather rolling it down the road with the swagger and style that you would expect from road-tested musicians that have toured the US and Europe a few times over. We were fortunate to have them in the studio to hear about their success and talk about their new single So Cold.

CUTTLASS is a blues oriented hard rock band from Chicago. One strong asset is that the band is very versatile. In this world of uncertainties, we know this for certain: CUTTLASS has the desire, strength and talent that surpasses that of the average band. Their passion towards music and their fans is the force that will continue to drive them straight to the top! We enticed them to stop by the studio with the promise of possibly getting them new scabbards. There were no scabbards, and fortunately no actual cutlass’s. Just the merriment of great conversation.

The StingRays play the greatest music ever written and play it with the energy, passion and authenticity of the artists whose music they love. Their music, great rapport with audiences, their look and the famous StingRay moves have made them repeated favorites throughout the Midwest. AMBIDEXTROUS is a 1960s-70s cover band, which began as a duet in 2014 with Scott Sodaro on electric guitar and his friend from 1st grade, Ray Lemieux, on acoustic. What makes AMBIDEXTROUS unique is their approach to the songs they love. They play them as best they can, using the original formulas which made those songs great. AMBIDEXTROUS has been playing all over the Chicagoland area for years. Only about 1% of the population is truly ambidextrous, so we were very fortunate to have them in the studio to see which way they are going.

They've gone through several members but still have founders Steve Kelly on lead and slide, and JR Mancilla on vocals and front man. What started out, during the pandemic, as a twist on “Live from Daryl’s House” for local musicians, “Live at Matt’s Barn” was born. As the craze grew, more and more people wanted to book the band. Seems like the barnyard was coming to the people.

Oh Yes! is now booking shows in the Chicagoland area and quickly becoming one of the hottest good time bands in the area.  Their incredible harmonies, diverse set list, and crowd interaction create an electric atmosphere that gets everyone up dancing and singing along during their show.

The Artist Formally Known as Vince Band (or TAFKAVince Band for short) formed in 1996 and began playing out regularly upon the release of 2002's At Last CD. Other notable releases include 2007's Welcome To The Show, the 2011 vinyl release On Display, and the singles "NYC" and "Luck," which were released in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
The band plays a heady mix of glam, punk, and rock n' roll and has built a reputation as a fierce live act who have graced stages at the Empty Bottle, Beat Kitchen, Liar's Club, Subterranean, Reggie's, The Hideout, and Double Door in their hometown of Chicago and have performed at the esteemed venues Berlin (NYC), Plain Dealer Pavilion (Cleveland) and Slash Run (Washington DC) while on tour.
We were fortunate to slow them down a bit to see what's coming up for them.

Originally from Dearborn, MI, Patrick moved to Chicago a few years after college. He made the rounds of all the Open Mic nights and even formed a five piece group that played his originals, as well as some covers.

Then life happened, Patrick married and raised a family, so he put music on the backburner.

Then in 2008, through a series of different events in his life, he once again picked up his guitar and songs just flowed out of him.

Ray and Mike were able to stop the flow for a bit and meet with Patrick and find out what happened back then and what is happening now.

The Diffused Blues Band formerly known as The Grumpy Old Men & Friends. The band is based out of McHenry, IL and was formed as a trio in 2021. In January of 2023 the full band was born. The band is comprised of veteran musicians performing Rock’n Blues, Classic Rock, and Southern Rock covers in their unique style. They feature a wide range of bands including Anthony Gomes, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, John Nemeth, Creedence Clearwater, Bob Seger, Marshal Tucker Band and more. The Difference started in the spring of 2014 while playing their middle school talent show. They were the favorite act of the show, which helped them gain confidence for the road ahead. They later named themselves "The Difference" because they felt that they wanted to make a difference in people's lives. The Difference consists of four talented musicians playing music from the 50's through the 80's. They play such artists like The Beatles, Queen, Elton John, Elvis Presley, and Cheap Trick. Formed in the Chicago area, Gambler began playing the Clubs, and Bars which lead to support slots with Fleetwood Mac, and Styx. The band recorded two excellent albums, which every serious fan of AOR should have in their collection. The debut album “Teenage Magic”, was produced by Jeff Glixman, and not surprisingly, there is a real Kansas feel to many of the tracks. 1980 saw the release of the second and final Gambler album -”Love and Other Crimes”. Paul and Ray met with the band to find out what they have been doing since then.

Landon Strives to recreate the King's charisma, style, and interaction with an audience while on stage. Ashley Victoria has been singing since the age of 5. Singing with her father's band growing up gave her the confidence to start performing more throughout elementary and middle school.
In 2014 she decided to tryout for a singing competition at one of the local bars in her area. That was the first time she had ever sang with a live band on stage. It was there that a local cover band discovered her, asking her to sing with them.

Carl Giammarese began his music career as a founding member of The Buckinghams, as lead guitarist and vocalist, in 1965. The Buckinghams were an important part of creating the sounds of American rock music after the British invasion had arrived and changed everything. The Buckinghams enjoyed No. 1 status and other positions on Billboard’s music charts for 5 years. They released 15 hit singles and 4 albums that charted, and they toured nationally for five years.

Pino Farina is a singer-songwriter whose emotive performances are filled with songs of love, heartache, redemption and renewal. After touring the country extensively with his award-winning band Pun̈sapaya he stepped away for a time of rediscovery as an artist, songwriter and performer. In 2018, Pino released “Start Over Again” and has been enthusiastically welcomed back performing in different combinations with Pino Farina Band (solo, duo, or full).

He was born in Chicago, and started playing guitar around age six. At 19, he joined his father, who by then had influenced some of the most well-known bluesman of our history: Jimmy Reed, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Johnny Winter, and Junior Wells. For 12 years the two would tour together, putting Ronnie out front with Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Koko Taylor. In 1998, when he was 32, his father told him to go solo.
