Our museum, founded in 2020, is a leading institution with the most complete and authoritative collection on shanzhai culture, particularly on architecture. We particularly focus on researching shanzhai architectures that are based on Western prototypes.
Through our podcasts, we aim to take you on a journey through the original and impact of Shanghai architecture in contemporary China. These architectures are archives of the wave of contemporary China. We will dig through these architectures to understand the complex relations between authenticity and imitation, East and West, 'self' and 'other', the representation of power, and the constantly evolving climate of Chinese cultural identity.

Dr Shifei Jia is a member of the China Artists Association and a national first-class painter. He currently serves as the director of the Shanzhai Architecture Museum, the co-founder of "The West as the Other" Research Center, vice-president of the Longquan Cultural and Educational Foundation, and director of the Shenzhen Shanzhai Culture Research Association. Dr Jia is also a researcher who has written widely on shanzhai culture and the "westness" in Chinese contemporary art. He is the author of The Chinese Dream or The American Dream？ (2014).
