In today episode, we take a sobering stand back from the destruction of Mystery Babylon, as we gaze upon the sudden destruction of the entire world system.  Will we take heed to the call to come of her before it is too late?

Revelation 18:1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. 2 And he called out with a mighty voice, 

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! 

She has become a dwelling place for demons, 

a haunt for every unclean spirit, 

a haunt for every unclean bird, 

a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast. 

3 For all nations have drunk 

the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, 

and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her, 

and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.” 

4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, 

“Come out of her, my people, 

lest you take part in her sins, 

lest you share in her plagues; 

5 for her sins are heaped high as heaven, 

and God has remembered her iniquities. 

6 Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, 

and repay her double for her deeds; 

mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. 

7 As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, 

so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, 

since in her heart she says, 

‘I sit as a queen, 

I am no widow, 

and mourning I shall never see.’ 

8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, 

death and mourning and famine, 

and she will be burned up with fire; 

for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.” 

9 And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, 

“Alas! Alas! You great city, 

you mighty city, Babylon! 

For in a single hour your judgment has come.” 

11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls. 

14 “The fruit for which your soul longed 

has gone from you, 

and all your delicacies and your splendors 

are lost to you, 

never to be found again!” 

15 The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud, 

16 “Alas, alas, for the great city 

that was clothed in fine linen, 

in purple and scarlet, 

adorned with gold, 

with jewels, and with pearls! 

17 For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.” 

And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18 and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, 

“What city was like the great city?” 

19 And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, 

“Alas, alas, for the great city 

where all who had ships at sea 

grew rich by her wealth! 

For in a single hour she has been laid waste. 

20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, 

and you saints and apostles and prophets, 

for God has given judgment for you against her!” 

21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, 

“So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, 

and will be found no more; 

22 and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters, 

will be heard in you no more, 

and a craftsman of any craft 

will be found in you no more, 

and the sound of the mill 

will be heard in you no more, 

23 and the light of a lamp 

will shine in you no more, 

and the voice of bridegroom and bride 

will be heard in you no more, 

for your merchants were the great ones of the earth, 

and all nations were deceived by your sorcery. 

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, 

and of all who have been slain on earth.”

Today's episode brings us back to chapter 17 of the book of Revelation, where we see the unfolding drama of Mystery Babylon -- the mother of harlots.  Today, we consider the intense plot or the story of this great drama as it unfolds.

Revelation 17:7-18. "When I saw her, I marveled greatly. 7 But the angel said to me, “Why do you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come. 9 This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; 10 they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. 11 As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. 12 And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast. 14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” 

15 And the angel said to me, “The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages. 16 And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire, 17 for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and handing over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 18 And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.”

Today's episode brings us to chapter 17 of the book of Revelation, where we see the astounding introduction to the sight of a harlot sitting up the great beast -- the beast whom we met in Rev. 13.   This introductory episode will pave the way for seeing the horros and judgment of Mystery Babylon -- the mother of harlots.

Revelation 17:1. "Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.” 3 And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. 5 And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.” 6 And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.

The church is in dire straights as we see fault lines threatening to divide her into pieces.  It seems that the charismatic church is undergaing severe exposure, and the Evangelical church is dividing ever things like "Christian Zionism".   Into this sadly  impure mixture, we want to contribute the healing message of the Lamb, but not just the lamb as we are familiar with seeing Him (this is a study of the book of Revelation after all,) but of the stunning ONTOLOGY of the Lamb.  What is at the essential heart of this great Being who is about to crush all evil? (Chaps 17-20).

Along with texts from Revelation itself, we get a little help from the Apostle Paul who contributes greatly to the ontology of the lamb with his writings in the book of Collosians:

Col. 1:15-20:  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

"A darkness that can be felt" was how this special form of judgmental darkness is described in Exodus 10.  The Exodus darkness was only a three-day long preview of what happens when God plunges the "Throne of the Beast" into the anguish of the darkness of Judgment.  Here is that intense account.

Revelation 16:10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish 11 and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds.

Having done the necessary background and contextual setting of the Revelation 15-16 "BOWLS OF GOD'S WRATH", we come in today's episode, to begin to consider the bowls themselves (first 4).   This section is seen  in Revelation 16:1-9:

Revelation 16:1  Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.” 

2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who bore the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. 

3 The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea. 

4 The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel in charge of the waters say, 

“Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was, 

for you brought these judgments. 

6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, 

and you have given them blood to drink. 

It is what they deserve!” 

7 And I heard the altar saying, 

“Yes, Lord God the Almighty, 

true and just are your judgments!” 

8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people with fire. 9 They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory.

In this episode, we observe 5 (of 6) principles that undergird the unfolding of the Seven Bowls of God's final wrath.   We will resume next week with a close examination of the controversial but crucial narrative of Armageddon.  These five undergirding principles will help pave the way for us.

12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. 13 And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. 14 For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) 16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. 

17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. 19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.

When considering the subject of God's wrath, we must consider the dual and transcendent expression of that wrath.  It is not simply wrath expressed in a moment of time on the rebellious sons of Adam.  That is only half of the story.  We must look at both major expressions of God's wrath -- one upon the earth, the other in the bosom of His Son. 

Revelation 15:5 After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tent of witness in heaven was opened, 6 and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. 7 And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, 8 and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

Today we peer onto the shore of the abyss (sea) and trace out how the abyss became a glassy sea and the place of deliverance -- first from Egypt, and then from sin.

This portion of the book of Revelation previews John's final 7-structured narrative, the seven plagues (bowls) of the final wrath of God.

Today we start a brand new vision of the Apostle John -- that of the seven bowls of wrath.   Having seen the visions of the 7 churches, 7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 thunders, we now come to John's final 7-structured narrative.   The taming of the abyss (sea) is the focus of today's episode.

Today, we discuss the dual harvest of the earth as described in Revelation 14:14-20.  Thank you for joining us for this sobering message.

Revelation 14:14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped. 

17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Put in your sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.

Once again, we venture into the heavenly IMAX to witness three mighty angels and their judgment day messages to the earth.   This is a sobering harbinger of what we find described in the next section which shows the great day of judment depicted as a harvest of grain and a harvest of vintage grapes.   

REVELATION 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.” 

8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.” 

9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.” 

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. 

13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

Revelation 14:1–5 “Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, 3 and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.  4 It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, 5 and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.”

Who are the 144,000 of Revelation 14?  Are they the same as the 144,000 of Revelation, chapter 7?   Find out in today's episode.

DID you know that thete is a true Zion (of God) and a false "Zion" (of man)?

In this episode we seek to identify the true Zion as opposed to its earthy imitation.  Some of this may ruffle the feathers of long-standing religious tradition, but we challenge you to take Bible in hand and to see of these things be true.

666 - THE infamous number that has been subject to all kinds of ridiculous speculation about it's meaning and the manner in which it is to be interpreted.  Of special focus is verse 18 of the section where two prerequisites are provided and are necessary to an accurate calculation the mark.  After this episode, we believe you will be possessed with a clear and biblically sound idea of how to interpret the mysterious portion of God's word.

Revelation 13:16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666

Revelation 13:1-10. 

13 And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. 2 And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. 4 And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?” 

5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation, 8 and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear: 

10 If anyone is to be taken captive, 

to captivity he goes; 

if anyone is to be slain with the sword, 

with the sword must he be slain.

In this episode, we marvel at the scene of the crystal sea that occupies John's great vision here in Revelation 15.  The symbolism is very rich and encouraging.

REVELATION 15:2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! 4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

IN THIS EPISODE, WE BEGIN TO CONSIDER Revelation chapter 15-16 which is the narrative of the Seven Bowls of Wrath.

We notice the striking use of a narrative device that John employs, known as "Interlocking" his narratives.   

In this episode, we draw out the amazing significance of this narrative device.

REVELATION 15:1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished. 

2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. 3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, 

“Great and amazing are your deeds, 

O Lord God the Almighty! 

Just and true are your ways, 

O King of the nations! 

4 Who will not fear, O Lord, 

and glorify your name? 

For you alone are holy. 

All nations will come 

and worship you, 

for your righteous acts have been revealed.” 

But there is an amazing connection between this (interlocking) section and another (interlocking) section in the book.  That is found in chapter 8

REVELATION 8:1. When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, 4 and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. 5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

IN this episode, we consider the very sobering scene of the last day of earth's history, presented in the dual metaphor of harvest and vintage.   This final moment of history brings us to the end of yet another of John's unfolding cycles of visions while on the isle of Patmos.

Revelation 14:14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped. 

17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Put in your sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.

"Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.” 

8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.” 

9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.” 

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. 

13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!” 

WHAT IS SO FEARFUL ABOUT THESE THREE ANGELS?  PRIMARILY IT IS THERE PROXIMITY TO THE END.  THE END OF THE WORLD.  THE END OF ALL THINGS.

At the moment of this recording, most Americans are riveted on the devastating wildfires that are ravaging Los Angeles, California.  In this live classroom episode, we consider Trumpet #1 and it's rich  symbolic Old Testament imagery in comparison to current events which appear to have correspondence to the content of the trumpet-warning.

We dive yet deeper into the mysteries of transcendent prayer, this time featuring Daniel, chapter 10 where we see something of a worldview explosion.  Daniel apprehends an amazing vision filled first of all with an appearance of a divine being (Angel of the Lord?), and then is introduced to a striking and vivid scene of angelic warfare.

AS WE PEER even deeper into the mysterious  "Great Intermission" of Revelation 8:1-6 we meet Daniel (Dan 9,10) deep in humble, repenting prayer before God.  Is he unzipping the heaven and getting some very profound results?  In other words, it appears that the the "Circle of Transcendent Prayer' seems to working quite well with Daniel.

Jesus went through three "doorways" in His experience of death and resurrection.  Besides the cross and His rising, He seems to have done some visiting around.  Here's how Peter states it in his first epistle:  "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water..."

In this episode, we examine that mysterious chapter in our Lord's journey of redemption of mankind.  Why did He descend into the "prison" and who were these "spirits"?
