I’m Albert McCaig, your host, and today we will be talking about transformation and the concept of how we transform our lives and our minds. Paul, writing in Romans, Chapter 12, verse 2, gave us one of the most remembered verses on this subject when he said, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Romans 12:2 teaches us not to let the values and pressures of the world shape who we are and who we will become. Instead, we should allow God to transform us by renewing our minds through His Word, through prayer, and by developing a growing relationship with Him. Renewing our minds sounds like something we would only use in church, but the greatest motivational speakers of our time use that or a similar theme to encourage personal growth; to have their actions reflect some purpose in life; to change our thinking. When our thinking changes, our choices and our actions begin to change with it. That is especially true in our relationship with God. The more we understand who God is and what He wants to do in our lives, the more clearly we begin to see His character. We discover that He is faithful, loving, patient, and completely trustworthy.

Today we will be talking about worry, anxiety, and the human tendency to simply wring our hands and be afraid of tomorrow. I’ve entitled this podcast, WHAT, ME WORRY. That’s from the old mad magazine quote by the fictitious Alfred E. Neuman. We see that Pop music, Christian music, and just about every genre of music has multiple songs about worry. Some of it is catchy phrasing, some of it is not the message we want to give to people, but regardless of style, lyrics, or music, we seem to spend a lot of our entertainment time on worry; or better yet, not worrying. Leo Buscaglia was an American author, professor, and motivational speaker best known for writing and speaking about love, human connection, relationships, and personal growth. One of his famous quotes was this: “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow; it only saps today of its joy.

In Matthew 6:34, this is Jesus speaking. He said: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Join us and pass this podcast along to your friends and contacts.

This is an important topic for getting along in an age that some are calling a post-Christian era, that is: tolerance versus compromise—especially as it relates to living out our Christian values in a world that often pushes us to “just go along to get along.” A world that calls us callous or bigoted. Tolerance, when rooted in love and truth, is good. It means treating others with respect, even when we disagree with them. Jesus showed tolerance when He dined with sinners, spoke with the Samaritan woman, and extended grace to the woman caught in adultery. But He never compromised truth to be accepted. He never compromised his message. That’s the difference. Compromise, when it means softening or surrendering biblical truth to avoid conflict or gain favor, is dangerous. That’s not love—that’s spiritual surrender.

Maybe we get angry, distracted, or lost in the struggles of life. Like the words shared today, we may deny Him—not just once, but over and over. We know He’s there, but we walk away anyway. Over the years, I’ve let a few people see some of it. I don’t think I’ve shared all of it with but a few folks. Today, and from time to time on this podcast I’d like to share a poem or two with you. Today’s poem is entitled Denial and Acceptance.

Sometimes we drift. We ignore God’s path, we stop praying, and we close ourselves off from His presence. Maybe we get angry, distracted, or lost in the struggles of life. Like the words shared today, we may deny Him—not just once, but over and over. We know He’s there, but we walk away anyway. Yet even in our rebellion, God remains faithful. This is a reminder that no matter how far we run, God’s grace is still within reach.

In parts one and two of our study on our Authority in the Name of Jesus, we covered how we need to have spiritual authority to do great and even supernatural things for the Kingdom of God. We discovered where we get that authority; and, of great importance, we found out that we can do all the things that Jesus did in his earthly ministry, and even more.

Today, we will look at the words we use. Almost all things begin in the mind or heart of the individual and come out through our words. We should be aware of and think about the words we use every day in our life. Words are so important. Proverbs 18: 21 says it so well: Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits (Proverbs 18:21).

By our words, attitudes, and thoughts we either reinforce the power of God in our lives, or the desires of the flesh in our lives. Everything we do will either enrich the influence of God in our life or empower the influence of the world in our life. It is a choice that we must make through training, discipline, and instruction.

That discipline and instruction begins with our words. It is how we speak; what we say, what we tell others. Words do matter. All the words we use, good or bad, make a difference one way or another. When we indulge in worldly ways by the words we say, by the words we read, what we talk about, the words we listen to, we will get worldly results; and not get the spiritual results that we want and need.

Through our individual discipline and instruction as a soldier for Christ, joined with other committed soldiers for Christ, we will not only see an abundancy in our own life, but in the lives of others we affect. James 5:16 says in part, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

We Christians have the power and authority to provide that fervent, effective prayer that is talked about in Scripture. Through using the authority we have been given in the name of Jesus, we can make a difference in our own lives, and greatly influence in a godly and positive way our families, our communities, and, ultimately, our culture.

We continue our study on the authority we have in the name of Jesus to do great and even supernatural things for the Kingdom of God. Under the Great Commission, and with that authority, where are we to go? "To all nations." And what are we to do? “Make disciples and observe all that He has commanded us to do.” The issue for us, then, is this: “What are we personally doing with that authority?” What are we doing not only in our own life, but also in the lives of others within our dominion or under our influence, with the full authority that we have been personally given by Jesus?

That is not a rhetorical question. We are an agent of Jesus. By that, we have been given authority and responsibility to do things for Jesus. Agents act. Agents don’t sit and watch or do nothing. Just as the parable in Matthew 25:14-30 describes the three men who were given various talents, we are expected to do something with the talents, skills, and knowledge Jesus has given us.

Just as they were to use the talents they were given; we are to use our skills, talents, and resources that we have been given. We are not to go bury them in the ground never to be used, as one of them did. We cannot sit on what we’ve been given by Christ. We are to execute the Great Commission as stated above in the Gospel of John and do it in the name of and by the authority of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Failing in taking on our opportunities for ministry is the spiritual equivalent of burying those opportunities in the ground. Jesus also said in John 15:16, “… I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

Again, that verse talks about the name of Jesus. We have been given a job, and that job is to bear fruit. That fruit includes the work we do in the name of Jesus, as well as the fruits of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22. The fruit we bear shall abide; by that, it will last. That fruit will last not only in our own life and for our own time, but in the lives of others that we affect or influence. That fruit may even bear positive results for generations to come by the actions we take now as an agent for Christ.

Here, we will bring together all the teaching and scripture we’ve gone through and focus it to have a positive, effective impact on each of us personally through prayer. That is spiritual power!

It all comes about through the authority we have in the name of Jesus. We have authority in the name of Jesus to act as an agent for Christ in all parts of our lives. Being an agent is a legal term that basically means a person acts on behalf of another. Although the Bible does not use the term agent, when we act on behalf of Jesus, we act as an agent. We see this in John 14:12. Scripture does indeed talk about our acting on behalf of Christ. We are to act on His behalf to do what He has asked us and instructed us to do.
