Don’t overlook the basics -  As Ruchita explained, it is so important to learn the basics, so make sure you invest the time in learning what you may consider the simple things before you seek out more advanced training. 

Expect slow progression, not success overnight! – it is easy to give up when we don't see that overnight success. Remember to be patient and keep making those small improvements and try not to panic if you don't see success overnight.

Get experience – not only will this help you learn your craft but also it will also enable you to demonstrate why you are the best fit for the role you are applying for or proving your worthiness if your working for yourself.

Find the right equipment to suit you and your budget – Its important to consider your budget and get the basics right, if we look at Gary’s example, you can invest in a post microphone, but if you don’t have a quiet recording space or have the interface to support it, then it wont guarantee a better quality product. 

If you don’t buy a ticket you wont stand a chance - As Gary explained apply or audition a is often as you can, in his industry often you are lucky to get a response 1 in 10 times you apply. 

Have a tough skin – you will find those who don’t believe in you or what you do, but equally you will have those that are your biggest fan’s. 

Treat any failures as a lesson – You are going to make a mistake, its important to understand that no one is perfect. Instead of giving up or being too hard on yourself, use this as an opportunity to learn how do this differently in future.

Solve a problem - If you are lost for what to do, then think about how you can help to solve a problem someone is likely to have, with the skills or knowledge you posses. 

Cant be good at everything – James explained how he sacrificed his free time at the start of his journey, but how he realised how important it is to find people who can support your and help you grow. Make sure you don’t forget about you, take time for you to relax and avoid burning out!

Could be worse – don’t let one hurdle bring you down, hurdles will be there to overcome, just think of them as a test to how bad you want to do something. Remember to keep calm and you'll often find a solution.  

Set targets - Instead of being overwhelmed by a large mountain to climb, visualise what you want to achieve, reverse engineer how you can get there and set realistic short term goals!

Do your homework - Don’t get drawn in by the glamorous face of a job. – look at the entire role and find out if it is for you.

Don’t assume you will get a job just on your grades. - Paul studied on a course where not many of his peers found a job in their desired field, he was lucky to get a job offer based on his work experience. 

Avoid working yourself into oblivion – you should do as much work as you feel happy with. Although you may hear about those who work themselves into the ground find a work life balance that suits you. 

Don’t just be a yes man or woman - Don’t be afraid of admitting your limitations, when you start taking on more responsibility and progress in your career it can be difficult to say no when things get too much. You are no good to anyone if you end up going off with stress. 

Time and Health – make time to do the things you want to enjoy and be healthy enough to enjoy that time.

This weeks guest Sarah found herself being paid to compete in the world of professional surfing and she eventually went on to open her own surfing school. 

Sarah talks about how important it is to seek out opportunities and shes absolutely right

What I would add is that when you are seeking out opportunities its important not to fear rejection. 

As Jade from Episode 2 said, don’t be afraid to fail, learn about why whatever it is you were trying didn’t work and try again. 

Try to develop that voice in your head that says, so what, it didn’t work this time, but I am going to improve, and I am going to find a way. 

Because in 2019, if you work hard enough and you want to get paid for your passion more than anyone else I believe you can.

So, I just want to say thank you for tuning in, this is my passion project and I hope that you are learning as much as I am! 

This week is like any other, we are going to find out about what it is Rich does, how he found himself being paid to travel around the world and what tips and tricks he has that you can use no matter the profession you are interested in. 

Rich went from being on the unemployed to working on some amazing projects before eventually finding his own path. 

He explains how he had no real idea about what it is he wanted to do, now I'll let Rich tell his story as lets be honest he will do a much better job than me. But what I will say is that it doesn’t matter if you don’t know what you want to do, or if your goals change, the important thing is to begin your journey. 

If you are struggling with what to start with then follow rich’s advice, his project started as a hobby. Begin by finding something you enjoy spending time doing and make it your obsession.

Then as Rich and you grow in confidence, began sharing your talents with the world. Then when the right opportunity comes along, and it will, then you will be ready to take it with both hands!

I hope your excited to hear from this weeks guest Alex creator and owner of a Social Media Marketing agency CambieandCo.

As you will discover, Alex started to go down a path that didn’t suit her. 
But unlike many she recognised it wasn’t what she had expected, was able to make the brave decision to admit this and reconsider what it is she wanted to do.

Like so many of us when we are young, John was unsure of which career path to take. John chose to follow a career in business and banking, thinking that if he followed the money he would find happiness. He found that this was not the case, as his true calling lay elsewhere.

After taking a broad business degree, several temping jobs, randomly working at a school in Japan, back to temping and then in a bank, John began to find his 'feet' in presentation work. This led him to getting involved, working and ultimately falling in love with E-Learning. 

John is now an award winner within the industry and owns his own E-Learning business!

Doors will open without you knowing. If people see the good work you are doing and if you show the right drive and passion then when an opening presents itself, they will remember you.

Take a chance! – If you don’t ask the question you will never know. If you decide to quit then you are guaranteed failure.

Volunteer – by volunteering you have the chance to learn about your chosen career path and quite often you will learn or experience things that will be valuable later.

It’s ok to be unsure – often people worry about being unsure, but remember the experts started somewhere. If in doubt, go with your gut. It's better to make a decision and be wrong than to stay stuck deliberating the perfect solution.

As you will hear, James decided that he didn’t want to be that person in the retirement home saying “If only I could do it all again”

He is absolutely right. We only get one life and I believe that as we spend so much time at work we should do something that fulfills us, rather than make us want to hide under the duvet! Consider the reality that Liam faced in episode 3 (Open in iTunes, Acast or search for this in your preferred podcast player). Don’t wait for a life changing event to make you realise that you need to do what’s best for you!

"Liam I don’t know what I want to do!" I hear some of you cry, I know the feeling. It's ok not to know what it is you want to do. Don’t get too stressed out! Simply try the things that interest you and if they don’t work out, then at least you know you tried and it's time to try something else.

James chose to become a Pilot, this is of course is a dream job for many. As James explains, it's a huge commitment but part of the reason James has been successful is because he has the drive and determination to become an expert in his field.

It can be hard to figure out your passion, and that’s ok. Relax, sometimes you can "accidentally" find something that you are drawn to.

Following your dream does not necessarily mean that it will be easy!

• Prepare for the unexpected. If you have a hurdle to overcome or a problem to solve, then you need to get on with it. Just like the aircraft in the sky, the world is not going to wait for you to figure it out. You need to act instead of burying your head in the sand.
• Find your fuel – get your head down and do the hard work.
• Hidden hard work – don’t enjoy yourself too much even if it looks like others are doing the same.
• Do more than just pass the exam – gain deeper knowledge and take responsibility for your development.
• Change with technology - don’t try and fight change, try to move with it.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team is absolutely vital in the role of an Air Traffic Controller.
• To become an Air Traffic Controller you have to enroll with the Air Traffic Control College which is run by NATS, who are the air navigation service provider in the U.K.
• A degree is not the key to unlocking a career in Air Traffic Control as the training is niche and not tangible with anything taught in academia. 

Official qualification requirements are 5 GCSE's between grades A and C, two of which being in English and Maths. The selection process is tough with only 2% who apply being successful. Applicants need to be resilient and confident with good problem solving skills. Part of the screening process includes spatial awareness and aptitude tests along with psychological assessments.

Training is 18 months of very challenging, highly pressured hard work. Therefore absolute commitment is essential to remain at the college. Don't become seduced by what your peers maybe doing in their social lives! Focus on your goal. In essence, get your head down, put in the hard work and the rewards speak for themselves!
