Despite growing up in challenging circumstances, Joel maintained a powerful vision by focusing on the positive influences of his grandparents. Joel quickly learned to be intentional with his time, giving him an acute understanding of its value. Joel discusses a point in his life when his time was unbalanced, consumed by work rather than his faith and family. Through this adversity, Joel sought the help of wise members of his community to help restore balance and intentionality to his time. This community support was instrumental in his transformation from an unbalanced life to a purpose-fulfilling balance. Such is the case with Bishop Mark McGuire, who, from the age of 13, became a drug addict, criminal, and eventually, associated with human trafficking. God radically intervened through an arrest and incarceration to transform Mark's life and redirect his purpose to help restore his community. This episode revisits some of the most impactful moments of Mark’s Rethreading Lives conversation. Mark’s powerful testimony entails his transformation from a life of destruction to a purpose-filled community advocate. His incredible story tells of his false identity as a criminal and how it had a chokehold on his life and purpose. Mark recounts, “I didn't die because of the identity deficiency; I was going to die because of the complications of an identity deficiency.” This episode contains heavy topics and hard truths, but more importantly, it’s a story of hope. Mark’s story is a truly beautiful witness to a life’s transformation and how it can be repurposed for the better. As a self-proclaimed hope-pusher, Mark is a community exhorter through and through. But he wasn't always a pillar of good in the community. In fact, Mark spent the majority of his teenage years and early adulthood immersed in a life of addiction, dealing drugs, and involvement in criminal activities. In this episode, he tells the captivating story of his life as a drug addict and dealer and how God dramatically got his attention. After almost 15 years of being in a life of fear and shame, Mark was arrested, convicted, and sent to prison. As he lay on the ground the night of the arrest, he wept, knowing that this would be the turning point of his life. While serving his sentence, Mark’s perspective radically changed toward a new role of helping others from the life that had trapped him for so long. Now, as a gang prevention advocate, Mark is helping those most in danger of gang-related violence in the Jacksonville area. His riveting story is rich with the hope of living out a God-given purpose and the power of how a life can be transformed through intentional time, openness, and vision. He tells story after story of his work in gang prevention and his work in the community. You won't want to miss Mark’s phenomenal life story in this episode of Rethreading Lives. That’s precisely what Calvin Thompson (Coach Cal) discusses in this riveting episode of Rethreading Lives. Coach Cal is the Founder and CEO of Kingdom Genius, an organization dedicated to helping people find and fulfill their purpose. Coach Cal summarizes his perspective in this acronym, “Everybody is a GENIUS because they are Gifted, Empowered, Noble, Intelligent, Unique, and Smart.”

As a child, Coach Cal was the only member of his family with no natural musical talent. In many ways, this made Cal feel inferior, as if God had nothing for him. This experience sparked a passion for developing spiritual intelligence in others and helping them create a vision for fulfilling their purpose. At 13, Cal was an avid entrepreneur who sustained himself with a litany of odd jobs for his neighbors, friends, and family. Since then, Coach Cal fostered his entrepreneurial spirit and continued living out his purpose and vision to help others find their unique calling. Coach Cal shares his inspirational methods of helping those in his community hold a vision for their unique gifts and use their time wisely to work toward their God-given purpose.

In this episode of Rethreading Lives, Kristin sits down with Chris Shee, the CEO of Mastercraft Builders. Among other topics, Chris explains his philosophy toward money, which starts with a healthy disconnection from material things.

After imagining losing everything he owns, Chris realized the critical difference between wealth and riches. Even if he were to lose “everything,” he would still be wealthy. His relationships with his family and friends, and the life they have built together, is infinitely more valuable than anything he owns. This epiphany created a new vision for how Chris wanted to live and affect the community around him.

From that place of contentment, Chris learned to be extremely generous. He gives uncomfortably, enjoying the freedom of “handing over what other people spend their lives chasing.” While that looks different for every person, the core idea is the same: we find true wealth when we learn that it isn’t material. It is a redefining of our purpose in this life.

Listen to the full podcast to hear more from Chris about giving, mental health, legacy, joy, and the fascinating life story of a local leader in business and in charity.

-
Show Notes:

-
Podcast Links:
MasterCraft Builders

Checkout Rethreaded Across All Platforms:
Subscribe to our YouTube Channel
Ready to learn more about Rethreaded?
