In an effort to not miss out on the festivities of the actual St. Patrick's Day, a young man (or group of men depending on who you're talking to) decided to get together with some local bars and start a new holiday. Thus, Fake Patty's Day was born. A day long celebration of drinking and general debauchery that Dusty wants to talk about. The guys are past their prime when it comes to the celebration but they used to be young. Who thought that conditioning a young child to be terrified of anything white and fluffy could have any long lasting side effects? Well, pretty much anyone really if you think about it. This week, he managed to find a way to talk about both. There have been countless movies made about sports but baseball in particular has found its way into cinemas countless times. You might not be familiar with the term but trust me. You are definitely aware of this sub genre of rock. The term was originally coined from a radio station. As in, "We don't play anything BUT rock". This style of music includes some favorites such as Breaking Benjamin, Creed, Poison, 3 Days Grace and many, many more. What do all of these bands have in common? You'll have to tune in to find out. It's been pretty cold around here lately and it got David doing some thinking. Could he survive out in the wilderness during the cold? Hell no! Then he got to thinking about some other people that couldn't make it either. Namely a pretty big chunk of The Donner Party. We're getting just a little dark with this one. From the earliest sci-fi films to modern day blockbusters, movies have a tendancy to try to predict what the future holds. This is especially true for technology. On this week's episode, Dusty wants to talk about some of the tech that the movies just so happened to get right. From tablets to Dick Tracy watches, the guys will cover quite a few marvels that a lot of us take advantage of every day. We've all heard a story or two in our time. Someone sets their cruise control in a Winnebago and goes to take a nap, sues the manufacturer when they end up crashing and getting a few million out of it. Or a burglar breaks into someone's house and cuts their hand in the process, sues the homeowner and walks away rich. In sports, streaks can mean one of two things. Either you are really good at something......or REALLY bad. On this week's episode, we're gonna try to stay focused on the positive for the most part. Unless you are a KU fan and in that case, sorry not sorry. David wants to talk about some memorable streaks in sports including K State's current win streak against in-state rival KU in football, Cal Ripken's consecutive games streak, Julio Cesar Chavez's win streak in boxing and so much more. It's Halloween! Our first episode to actually come out on the holiday and Dusty is taking full advantage. For starters, we wanna know what some of your favorite costumes were in the comments below. Stephen King is a name that is synonymous with horror. One of the most prolific writers of our time, he has had countless adaptations of his work done over the years. I know what you're thinking. With a title like that, half of it is probably just butt jokes. That couldn't be further from the truth. It's actually more like 3/4. David stumbled across an urban myth and decided to educate the guys on the story of Mel's Hole. Calling into "Coast To Coast AM" in 1997, Mel shared his story with listeners across the nation of a strange, bottomless hole located somewhere on his property in Washington state. Measuring roughly 9 feet in diameter, he claimed the hole had been known about for generations and that the government had even come to do environmental tests. What's weirder is that no one else has ever been able to find the hole. Oh, and he found another one in Nevada. It's that time of year again! The air is getting cooler. The days are getting shorter. Halloween is right around the corner. Dusty wants to talk about it. Not the holiday itself. Today, we're talking about Michael Myers and the iconic Halloween horror franchise. While the series has experienced many highs, it has certainly had its fair share of lows as well. An unavoidable fact of modern life is that we all have to work. What you decide to do for work on the other hand, is completely up to you. That's where the fun/anxiety begins.  Between the three of them, the guys have quite a bit of experience in quite a few different areas of the workforce and Dusty wants to talk about it. From David's old habit of pulling a "no call/no show" to Dan staling his very first job, we think you're in for a treat on this one. Yeah, you read that right. We're talking about a very strange day on this week's episode. Dan came across something he wanted to share with everyone and boy is it a doozy. Back in the late 1800's in rural Kentucky, meat started falling from the sky. There are some pretty interesting theories about what actually happened but the guys have some of their own. With the college football season about to get underway and the KSU Wildcats starting the season off overseas, David thought it would be a great chance to talk a little about the country where the game is taking place. Ireland! With only one brief mention of the Blarney Stone, we think you guys will actually like this one. From the world's oldest pub to the origins of Halloween, David wants to cover a little of everything with a LOT of gettin' sidetracked in between. It's our last real summer episode and Dusty wanted to end the season by talking about a true American pastime. Going broke at an amusement park. Kansas City's own Worlds Of Fun, Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, Universal Studios and Disney are all on the topic of discussion this week. From Dusty being extremely lucky when it comes to Disneyworld to Dan eating his way through Silver Dollar City and even David's beef with the local carnie's, we'll go over it all. Oh boy. Here we go. It's time to get serious around here people. Dan just opened the guys eyes to some serious evidence that proves without a shadow of a doubt. Now everyone is about to hear the truth whether you can handle it or not. Are you ready? The Earth......is round Dummy. Everybody knows that. Well, maybe not EVERYBODY. Dan wants to talk about those lovable goofs that seem to pop up in society every once in a while. Flat Earthers! A little bit of history, some interesting theories and some ways to fight back against their.....interesting arguments. Spinoffs have been around almost as long as tv itself. David has a list that includes some of the most successful ones.....and some of the not so successful ones. "Joey" is on one of the lists. We'll let you figure out which one. From "After M.A.S.H." and "Top of the Heap" to "Frasier" and "The Jeffersons", we'll go through quite a few. For instance, most of the hosts didn't realize "N.C.I.S." was a spinoff of "J.A.G." If you didn't either, you're in good company AND you need to tune in and pay attention cause David is gonna learns ya. All of this and more on this week's "Gettin' Sidetracked"......which is technically a spinoff of sitting around not sharing our thoughts with the internet.

Just when you thought it was safe to download another podcast! JAWS celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and Dusty wants to talk about it. A best selling novel that turned into the first ever summer blockbuster and shattered box office records in its path. The only problem was just that making it was an absolute nightmare. So much so that it actually gave a young Steven Spielberg PTSD for a period of time. The guys talk about the issues with drinking on the set, two of your three main actors bickering and fighting and of course "Bruce", the mechanical Great White that almost never worked properly. All hail the Prince of Darkness! No, not that Devil guy. I'm talking about the Godfather of Heavy Metal, Ozzy Osbourne! More specifically, Dan wants to talk about The Madman himself. We witnessed the last performance of the musical icon last week and Dan wants to talk about The Blizzard of Oz. From his early time in England as a young theater geek that was made fun of to his 10 hour long tribute and final performance in front of a sold out stadium, Dan wants to fill us in on who this man really is. The combatants are ready and the showdown is about to begin. David has soda on his mind this week. In particular, the two titans of the cola world. The longtime associate of Santa Claus, Coca-Cola and the choice of a new generation, Pepsi. From the Pepsi challenge to New Coke and even lighting Michael Jackson on fire, the two brands duked it out starting in the 70's. Obviously, it got pretty intense. With a brand new animated movie getting rave reviews and a new live action movie on the horizon, Dusty decided it would be a good idea to talk about the franchise as a whole with the guys. Behind the white picket fences of this midwest town lies a darkness that lurks behind every corner. Nah, not really. At least, not for this show. Some Manhattan Kansas true crime is on Dan's mind this week so he wants to talk about a few particular cases and enlighten the guys on some history. Mostly 80's. A little 90's. K State is set to face off against Rutgers on December 26th this year in The Rate Bowl. Strangely enough, this isn't the first time that Kansas State has been to this particular bowl game. You may know it by a different name....or several different names to be more accurate. David wants to talk about the teams history with this bowl game that even went a year without a sponsor. Completely unheard of in this day and age so we're guessing the sales guy must have been asleep at the job. It seems like two movies come out around the same time, about basically the same thing all of the time. Right? Turns out, it's not as common as you may think and some studios take active steps not to let it happen. The phenomenon is referred to as Twin Films and that is our topic of the day.  Dan takes the helm on this one while he gives us some examples from the 80's and beyond. Plus, we might go off on a little tangent about Alien 3. Hey, it happens. How often do twin films actually happen?  Are Dante's Peak and Volcano really that similar? Would Deep Impact be remembered better if it had a kickass Aerosmith soundtrack too? You'll have to tune in to find out.

The proper term is genericization but what it boils down to is when a brand name becomes so recognizable that it is indistinguishable to the product itself. Some of these names might just change the way you look at certain products. From Thermos to Chapstick, the guys will go over some of these with the kinds of observations that only they can provide. Oh yeah! Also the Chiefs won the Super Bowl again. No big deal. 

Have you ever experienced deja vu? Seen something that shouldn't be possible? Had the feeling we were all living in a simulation? You're not the only one! What? Did you think you were special or something? Dan wants to tell the guys about a few stories that claimed to have "glitched the matrix" and see what they have to say about the matter. 1994 was an interesting year. Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was hit with a pipe, Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president of South Africa and the whole OJ thing went down. If you don't already know about that one, look it up. We're not going into detail here and neither is David! Not on that at least. Today he wants to talk about the MTV Music Video Awards of that year. A very eclectic lineup featuring the likes of Snoop Dogg, Peter Gabriel and Bjork just goes to show you how weird of a year it really was. We've all known since we were kids that you dial 911 for an emergency. That hasn't always been the case. In fact, it hasn't been around quite as long as you may think. Join the guys as Dan gives us a little insight on some of the history of the now well known rescue service. Today's episode is all about the guys personal experience with concerts. Between the three of them, they've seen quite a few shows. In other words, they've seen some stuff. Join us while Dan tells us about a traumatic event at a Mastodon show, Dusty shares why he has little love for Nickelback (but not none) and Dave talks about seeing Eddie Van Halen fall off the wagon. Don't worry. We saved the best seats in the house for you.

This is it! It's the end of the world! Or at least it was supposed to be quite a few times actually. Dan wants to explore some of the more well known predictions that obviously didn't come to pass such as Hailey's Comet, Heavens Gate and Y2K.  Join the guys for a little bit of humor to go along with your apocalypse. Like we said, it's the end of the world as we know it and we feel fine.

This week David regales the guys with the tale of Rube Waddell, one of the most legendary pitchers in MLB history. This early 1900s ace is known for multiple 300+ strikeout seasons, immaculate innings, and being one of the greatest to step on the mound. But he was also a little nutty with a penchant for violence, drinking, womanizing, chasing fire trucks during games, and also going to make friends with any cute puppies that might be in the stands.  Other topics include getting beat up by older brothers, Kevin Bacon, and Dusty's strong dislike of former KSU quarterback/current Miami Dolphins backup QB Skylar Thompson.

On todays episode, Dan and Dave indulge Dusty as he dedicates an entire episode to the works of John Carpenter. Coming hot out of the gate with his sophomore effort, he introduced the world to what would be the template of the modern slasher and an instant horror classic with Halloween. On top of the entertainment world with his next few outings, he discovered quickly that the only way to go from there was down. His career would soon be plagued with box office bombs that would later go on to become recognized as cult classics. Join the guys as we discuss his directing career and why a lot of these films went unappreciated in their time. So what do South Park and John Carpenter's They Live have in common? You'll have to tune in to find out.

What rights should a squatter have? Should someone be allowed to throw them out on the street? Is the legal system too slow and complicated to ever actually figure it out? Remember the solar eclipse back in 2017? It was predicted with such accuracy that you were probably able to get a 10 minute break at work just to risk blinding yourself to see it. That hasn't always been the case, though, and it cheesed off 1500s Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.
