The past year has taught me the profound truth behind our community's mission: alleviating the loneliness of entrepreneurship truly happens "one cafecito at a time." When I found myself with nowhere to live and uncertain about the future, it was fellow Jefas who stepped up, offering solutions that kept my family and business rooted in Southern California. This experience reinforced something I've learned deeply since I began this pursuit of CCJ - we aren't meant to build businesses in isolation.

Our community has grown in beautiful ways during this time of personal challenge. The CCJ Casita now hosts over 35 virtual events monthly, from hyper-focus sessions where we work alongside each other to specialized programs led by community leaders. We're expanding our reach through a new partnership with the AmigaHood platform, launching bi-weekly Cafecito and Co-working sessions beginning August 5th.

For those seeking more personalized support, I continue to serve Jefas through one-on-one strategy "sprints," where we clarify goals and create actionable marketing plans aligned with your capacity. Meet Jefa: Beatriz Rivera - Beaboss Coaching

Beatriz Rivera is a former social worker from South Central LA. As a daughter of immigrant Salvadoran parents, Bea did well in school, received her bachelor’s in child development and psychology and went on to get her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University. As a social worker, Bea worked for a major hospital network in NY for 5 years helping older adults manage their chronic illnesses to live healthier lives. 

When the pandemic hit, Bea helped her father keep his shoe repair business open which planted a seed in her to help other business owners in need. This was the genesis of her entrepreneurship journey as she set out to learn about business via books, podcasts, courses and investing in business coaching herself. 

When she moved back to LA after the pandemic, Bea quit her job a year later after running her dad’s shoe repair business and learning from her dad’s own entrepreneurial journey. They opened a second location in West Covina and now spends a couple days out of the week managing her dad’s 2 shoe repairs. 

Bea is now the proud owner of Beabosscoaching, a 1:1, 6 month coaching program focused on coaching, skill building, strategy and feedback. She takes her clients through a transformation meant to grow their confidence, build their business and skills at the same time and to walk along their entrepreneurship journey like a boss.

Meet Jefa: Lucy Ortega

I am a first-generation Latina + serial entrepreneur. I run my food businesses – Sierra Mexican Cuisine - and coach other first-generation individuals who have dreams of monetizing their gifts.

I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, where I experienced both emotional and financial instability. I was instilled with the belief that education would be my ticket “out of poverty", so I dove deep into my studies in search of that “golden ticket.”

I attended Wellesley College, just outside Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating, I embarked on a five-year journey as a secondary science teacher in South LA. While teaching, I accidentally began to pursue entrepreneurship.

My grandfather’s health suddenly deteriorated, and I witnessed the emotional toll it took on my father, who was unprepared financially to deal with the situation. Seeing my father struggle with both the emotional and financial burden made me realize that I didn’t want to go through the same challenges. So I began building my first business that has evolved into multiple businesses. 

There has been a lot of trial and error as the first in my family to build and scale a business. Despite, my mom being the queen of side hustles, she didn’t understand the importance of leveraging social media or how to navigate the paperwork behind “legitimizing” a business.

I also struggled with the decision of leaving my stable teaching career to pursue my food business full-time. I knew that my mission as an entrepreneur was greater. I'm now helping YOU become the confident CEO you are meant to be.

Ana María Gaona, a San Fernando Valley Native, is a first-generation, bilingual daughter of immigrant parents from Oaxaca, Mx, and Cordoba, Spain. Retired last year from a 26+ year public sector career, Ana transitioned into her “third act” as a multi-passionate entrepreneur.  She combined her skillset and utilized her interdisciplinary leadership expertise to launch GlowLuxe Tan, a spray tan business, with her daughter. She has more than 30 years of experience in the health field, 27 within the nonprofit sector, and the last six in her own business as a Wellness Coach and consultant working with individuals and organizations. Her work focuses on helping busy women break free from stuck patterns so they can have a healthier relationship with food and themselves. Luz takes a holistic approach to addressing root causes and imbalances within the body and mind, including blood sugar, gut health, chronic stress, negative self-talk, and unhealed trauma. She is known for helping people break the sugar habit. Her work with organizations focuses on nonprofit employee wellbeing programs to reduce stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

Luisa was born in Bogotá, Colombia and now resides in Phoenix, AZ. Luisa’s lifelong fascination with streamlining processes began when she was six years old. She once messed up and was told to write "I will not repeat this error again..." about 100 times. She quickly forgot about the  mistake and became engrossed in finding the most efficient way to accomplish the task. She never thought her  passion for efficiency would lead her to build a 10,000 cu ft hot air balloon and distribute over 2B worth of inventory across the USA and multiple cities across the world. She has also coached 100 professionals, operated a start-up, and worked as an Analyst for one of Pepsi's top ten accounts.

Luisa has transitioned her decade of operational acumen into 1-1 consulting.  She started her business, the Efficiency Maven to support amazing women entrepreneurs in their operational journey, by giving her clients the tools to avoid employee turnover and costly operational clean up.

Meet Jefa: Lizette Linares - Madre Mia Belleza

My name is Lizette Linares, and I am a proud Latina and a first-generation Mexican-American living in Houston, TX. I grew up in McAllen, Texas, a small border town surrounded by strong, independent women. As a child, I was fortunate enough to experience my culture firsthand by spending weekends and summers in Mexico. Walking through the mercado aisles, taking in the artistry and rich smells of Mexican culture, was a unique experience. 

My abuela Juanita, left her beloved country to provide her children with a better life. She was a true guerrera. My grandmother worked in the fields, picking anything from oranges to pumpkins, all while raising six children. She was a boss in her own right, and she passed that hard-working spirit on to my mother. My mother has been working since she was 14 years old, and when she became a single mother at a young age, she did not let that deter her from providing me with a bright future. 

Witnessing the strength of these Latina women inspired me to create Madre Mia, a brand that honors and glorifies the Mujeres that came before us. We are committed to bringing high-quality products made from clean, natural plants and herbs that come directly from Madre Earth.
