Karin takes us behind the scenes of her writing process, her characters, and the stories that have kept readers hooked for years

Plus, we bring in questions from YOU! Karin answers listener questions about her writing process and the beloved Will Trent series before we wrap things up. HUDA FROM LOVE ISLAND IS ALLEGEDLY SPIRALING. In this episode, we chat about the disturbing breaking news that was leaked about Huda Mustafa and boyfriend Luis. We read the text messages that were leaked and show Huda's state of mind, scary threats, and concerning behavior. We get into the concept of taking behavior like this more seriously, and the sometimes blurred lines of reality tv villains who are acting, vs who are being their true selves.  Of course, we hope everyone involved gets the help and resources they need. Sending love to everyone!

Let us know your thoughts on this really bizarre situation!

New books are dropping left and right, and our TBR lists are officially out of control. 📚🔥

In this episode of The Open Books Podcast, Amber and Colby break down some of the most talked-about new releases across fantasy, thrillers, literary fiction, memoir, and more. From magical libraries and dark fantasy romance to chilling psychological mysteries and powerful historical stories, we’re sharing the books everyone is buzzing about right now.

We chat about titles from Kate Quinn, Brandon Sanderson, Kerri Maniscalco, Mary Kubica, Kate Alice Marshall, and Jo Nesbø, plus a few emotional literary picks that are already getting major attention.

Then we dive into the biggest piece of book world drama right now—the new Wuthering Heights adaptation directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Between the chaotic press tour, viral marketing moments, and massive box office debut, we talk about why this film might signal a new era for romance-heavy book adaptations in Hollywood.

If you love hearing about new releases, book industry gossip, and what should go on your TBR next, this episode is for you.

HEY YALL. So, today we are back with a full in depth review of the very popular COLLEEN HOOVER'S new book called Woman Down.

The story follows Petra Rose, a bestselling author whose career has stalled after a viral backlash. Facing financial ruin and intense writer's block, she retreats to a remote lakeside cabin to finish her next manuscript. Her isolation is interrupted by Detective Nathaniel Saint, a handsome and mysterious investigator who arrives with disturbing news. As their relationship intensifies through "research sessions," Petra loses herself in a world where she can no longer distinguish between her fantasy and a dangerous reality.

THIS BOOK WAS ONE OF COLLEN'S WORST BOOKS IN OUR OPINION, and we get into all the reasons why! If you read, please let us know your thoughts. We are so excited to chat with you all!

Thanks for listening, and we’ll see y’all next week on The Open Books Podcast! 💕📚✨

In this episode, we’re diving into the book Phantom Limb by Lucinda Berry, and buckle up…because this one hurt in the best way. By the way, LUCINDA BERRY herself chose this book for us to read!

Phantom Limb is a psychological thriller that explores grief, trauma, and the terrifying lengths the mind will go to survive unbearable loss. When Elizabeths twin sister dies, her entire life blows up. But is perception really reality in this plot?

We also get into Lucinda Berry’s signature style, the emotional manipulation (intentional and not), moments that shocked us, moments that broke our hearts, and whether this book crossed the line or walked it perfectly. As always, we share our honest reactions, theories, and final thoughts...and yes, there are moments where we had to pause and just sit with it.

If you love dark psychological thrillers that stay with you long after the last page, this episode is for you.

🎧 Listen now and let us know, did Phantom Limb mess you up too?

HEY YALL. We are back today with something short and maybe bittersweet?

This one wasn’t easy to record…
We’ve got something big happening behind the scenes, and it’s going to change everything. It’s not a decision we made lightly, and honestly—it’s a little scary. In this episode, we open up about what’s been going on, why things are shifting, and what that means for The Open Books Podcast.

Is this the end? Are we walking away from the podcast? Or are we stepping into something entirely new?
We’re not saying much (yet)… but let’s just say: you’ll want to stay close. Something major is coming.

Thank you for being with us through every chapter. We love y’all. Stay tuned.

HEY YEALL! Amber and Colby are back with a new book club episode all about The Tenant by Frieda McFadden. This book is officially on the shelf, so of course, we had to dive in.

Before we do anything, we announce our KINDLE GIVEAWAY WINNER!

In this episode, we’re breaking down all the twists and turns of McFadden’s chilling new thriller about a man named Blake, who has it all. Until he gets fired from his job abruptly and goes broke. In order to pay the mortgage for him and his fiancee, they take in a tenant to rent a room in their New York City home. That is when things take a turn for the worst. Foul smells, fruit fly swarms, murdered neighbors. Is Blake's new tenant trying to make his life hell?

We give you a full in-depth summary (so don’t worry if you haven’t read it) and we unpack everything from the unreliable characters to the big, jaw-dropping reveal.

We also dig into some fun discussion questions, talk through major themes like trust, manipulation, and what makes someone a villain, and of course, we add our usual dose of New Orleans banter along the way.

If you love thrillers, jaw-dropping twists, or just feel like hanging out with your book besties, this episode is for you. Make sure to follow us on any podcast platform and on socials @TheOpenBooksPodcast so you never miss an episode! 💋📚

HEY YALL! We are back this Friday with our book club episode on the novel Dark Matter by Blake Crouch! As always, if you didnt read the book, tune in for an in depth summary that will make you feel like you are watching a movie play out in your head!
Haha, but really this was such a fun read. We deep dive into the concept of a multiverse, where alternate version of yourself are living out different realities.
This book is paired with a brand new TV adaptation on apple TV. If you read the book or are watching the series, let us know your thoughts! Was the concept way too far fetched, or were you able to suspend belief and enjoy the ride? If your husband slept with another version of you, is it cheating? WHAT YALL THINK?!
