Today we are chatting about hunting one of our favourite places in the world, the South Island of New Zealand. For this one we caught up with avid Bowhunter and Outdoorsman Owen Kraaksma.

Owen is the face of New Zealand Bowhunting Adventures Youtube channel and has recently releases a number of great hunting films that not only show great hunting content, but tell a story and showcase the incredible landscape that the South Island Of New Zealand has to offer.

Owen has plenty of Bowhunting experience in the hills and spends his days keeping fit and ready to conquer the steep terrain he lives in.

We chat about his recent hunting expedition with world champion archer Kyle Douglas, learn a few tips on targeting Chamois and of course talk plenty about hunting Reds in the Roar.

Both of these boys recently made the big move north with their families to the tip of Australia. Settling on the remote Thursday Island off the northern most point of Australia. This gave the boys and their families a chance to experience life at a slower place as well as take in some of the culture from some of the traditional owners who live on Thursday Island.

We thought it would be a good chance to catch up with the boys and hear how things differ in general life, as well as on the hunting and spearfishing front.

The boys provide some good insight into local weather patterns, tides, moon phases and other factors that influence wether it will be a bowhunting or spearfishing adventure.

Andrew is a keen hunter with a rich family history of hunting and home cooking. In his later years he has developed a love affair with hunting, growing and cooking wild game and other natural low ingredient nutritious foods. So much so, that he developed the social media name The Bald Chef.

Its not uncommon to see Andrew out in nature with his young family, filming his adventures, hunting, preparing and cooking wild game using traditional methods and creating delicious nutritious meals promoting the amazing benefits of living a self sustainable life.

Today's yarn is the final episode of season two of show! For this episode we wanted to leave you all with something a little more meaningful that would highlight the mental health benefits and science behind spending time in the great outdoors.

To bring this one together we called upon a person who has helped us greatly in other areas of life by the name of Mark Mathieson.

Mark is a qualified Psychologist who has extensive experience working with high level athletes, Special Forces Military operators and on reality TV shows (SAS Australia, Alone Australia, Survivor Australia). During these interactions, Mark began to realise just how powerful spending time outdoors was in assisting with mental and physical health and as a result, spent a great deal of time researching the proven benefits of doing so.

Mark is a hunter and outdoorsman who places a high value on the healing powers of being out in nature. During this episode we cover the scientifically proven reasons why we all feel so much better after spending time outdoors doing the activities we love.

It was a pleasure to have Mark on the show and we look forward to having him on again in the future to delve deeper into these and other mental health and awareness topics that effect us all on a daily basis.

Today's yarn is all about chasing the elusive Yellowfin Tuna. A few weeks ago we were sent a video of a guy landing an absolute monster Yellowfin and after seeing the footage, we just had to reach out to him and get him on the show. Micka Lusson is his name and spearfishing is his game!

It wasn't long into our conversation that we realised just how much time, effort and planning Micka has put in to work out a system for accurately predicting when, where and why these amazing Yellowfin and other species of fish will show up.

The amount of knowledge he shares with us on this episode is absolutely incredible and it left us scratching our heads for a week after the interview.

It was a real privilege to get the opportunity to learn from someone with as much in water experience as Micka.

Today’s yarn is with 3x Spearfishing World Recold holder Erin McGinty. Erin has spent the best part of her life on, in or learning about the ocean including a PhD in Marine Science Genetics and MC <24m and MED vessel qualifications.

Erin has travelled extensively throughout Australia, working in some of the most remote communities in the country giving instruction to Traditional Owners on the commercial boating front as well as skippering vessels for extended research expeditions.

All this time she spent years underwater honing her craft as one of the most capable Spearo’s in the country. With 3x World and 10x Australian Records to her name, Erin has bagged some of the most impressive fish there is.

We had a great time catching up with Erin who shared plenty of wisdom on finding fish, bluewater techniques, breath hold and provided sound advice for the next generation of female Spearo’s starting out or improving in the sport.

Erin has a passion for the ocean and a drive for adventure that is infectious to be around.

We look forward to learning a few lessons from her out on a dive real soon.

Donnie is one of the most passionate and genuine people you could ever meet and he truely lives life prioritising incredible experiences above material possessions. His knowledge of the land and his willingness to share it was inspiring to say the least.

Extreme Solo Adventurist | Outback Mike

This yarn is part 1 of a 2 part episode with extreme solo adventurist Mike Atkinson. Some may know him as Outback Mike from Alone Australia season 1, however Mikes story runs far deeper than that.

Part 1 we learn of Mikes monumental solo expedition where he hand carved a 5 meter dug out canoe from a huge hoop pine tree (worked full time on it for 14 months) before sailing it solo 1500 kms to the tip of Australia via Cape York living off nothing but the land using 1840’s equipment.

Mikes inspiration for the extreme adventure came from early Australian settler James Morrill, who survived a 42-day sea voyage off the Queensland Coast in 1846.

This incredible story of dedication, skill and mental resilience against all odds is nothing short of amazing and will inspire others to chase their dreams.

Mike also shares his transition from fast jet military pilot to extreme solo adventure film maker and shares some of the survival skills he learned from his time in the military.
