Ministry can be and often is messy. It's often physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausting. Why do we do it? Because of our love and obedience to Jesus. 

In this episode, Nicole shares an impactful passage she found that discusses two people who had a lot to lose in terms of their political and religious status at the time.  DJ and Nicole discuss the costs of these two people burying Jesus and how it can impact their own and others' ministry work.

We all love the mountain-top experiences in our faith journey. However, God will not let us stay there because He wants us to grow. Where do we grow? The reality is that most of our growth happens in the valleys.  Look at the story of Elijah in the Bible. He came off the mountain-top experience of God, involving him in the destruction of the prophets of Baal. The next thing we see is that Elijah is on the run.

Answering the call to serve in ministry is not something to take likely. God expects obedience. This is the continuation of Rich and Lisa's story. Anything can become an idol including our marriages. When we place anything or anyone above God and Jesus, it becomes an idol.

In this episode, we discuss the importance of keeping the Lord first in our marriage so we do not allow our marriage to become a god with a little g. It's a struggle more often than not to keep not only our marriage but other things from taking precedence in our relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ.

The only thing constant in life is change. This is a true statement based on our experiences. This includes career changes. Join us as we discuss how God was faithful through our career changes during our marriage. 

Joseph in the book of Genesis. Moses starting in the book of Exodus. Gideon in the book of Judges, and Nehemiah among others. Let's not forget the original twelve disciples of the Lord Jesus.  

 As you read the Bible, you will discover that many people had career changes in their lives as well. God used them for His glory (Romans 8:28). Whether it's a career change to a different vocation or the call to full-time ministry, God has a purpose for you as He did for those in the Bible.

In part 1, Nicole presented some "rules of engagement" that she had come across during one of her studies. On this episode, Nicole and DJ will answer 4 questions. Listen to their responses. Then you and your spouse try to answer the same questions. Think of it as an exercise in communication.


Knowing their thoughts,  he (Jesus) said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.  Matthew 12:25

 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one  fails to obtain the grace of God; that no  “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;  Hebrews 12:14-15

Therefore,  confess your sins to one another and pray for one another,  that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Every married couple has disagreements from time to time. How you argue or resolve disagreements will impact your relationship in some way or fashion. The husband has his point of view and the wife has her point of view. Often times we see view the same situation differently. In part one Nicole explains the  "rules of engagement" and in part two there will be questions that both she and DJ will answer.


  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,  by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.  Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,  forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.  Ephesians 4:30-32

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.  Philippians 4:11-13 -Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

1 Timothy 6:6-10 - But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world and we cannot take anything out of this world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

In the late summer of 2021, both of us contracted COVID. Nicole ended up being hospitalized more than once. Yet God used this experience to help lead us to eventually start this podcast.
