Casey Head, was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 31, after noticing weakness, fatigue and rashes. Casey’s cancer came back 3 times, leading to all kinds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy and even had a stroke during treatment. Casey underwent a brand new treatment resulting from a LLS conference after running out of all other options, asking the FDA and Pfizer to get on new treatment that was just approved and also underwent a stem cell transplant from her brother.

We last spoke in 2019 (season 3, episode 3- I encourage you to check her out).

Husband and wife, Elijah and Celeste discuss his battle with cancer since 2005. In 2021, he received a heartbreaking Stage IV diagnosis. About the book:
Three local breast cancer survivors and friends from Elk Grove just published a new book, Hope Among Us: Stories of Three Young Breast Cancer Survivors. They provide raw, honest accounts of our breast cancer journeys. They were diagnosed with the same kind of breast cancer, and were treated at the same hospital. They also interviewed their mothers who are all breast cancer survivors. Their book was just published in January. It is available on Amazon in 3 formats: paperback, hardcover, and Kindle ebook.

About the authors:
Rhonda Eyzaguirre, PhD, is a school psychologist and mother of two children. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, and completed active treatments in May 2018. She is a co-author of Hope Among Us: Stories of Three Young Breast Cancer Survivors.

Jennifer Dresser is a two-time cancer survivor and mother of four children. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, and had a recurrence in 2019. She completed active treatments in June 2020. She is a co-author of Hope Among Us.

Mari Guzman is an attorney and mother of two children. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, and completed active treatments in November 2020. She is a co-author of Hope Among Us.

Michelle is a mom of 3 amazing girls and a health psychologist by trade. Michelle conducted research for underserved cancer survivors. In a twist of fate, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in February of '21, 15 years after her research. This was following a move to a new city, covid diagnosis with pregnancy (when Covid was just emerging and no protocols on pregnant women with Covid. With a newborn, Michelle noticed a lump while breast feeding. MIchelle describes her newborn as her angel.

Michelle describes leaning on others for help, giving yourself permission and the importance of connecting with a therapist. Michelle also describes "toxic positivity" and how others only want to talk or share the positive stuff. Michelle describes the importance of having a space for one's feelings.

Natalie is a wellness and lifestyle coach, mom of 3 beautiful children, a public speaker and a faith filled servant. After hearing on multiple occasions not to use a loofah for washing, Natalie noticed a lump while washing with her hands. Natalie was diagnosed with Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma at the age of 38.

Natalie describes complications with Taxol, despite being a fit and active person with expectations she would rock her chemo. Natalie describes the season after her treatments, anger, sadness, loss, hope, joy, anxiety and guilt. Ann was the first person to reach out when I announced I was taking guests for mental health. Ann experienced a series of events in 2012 starting with her mother's death from endometrial cancer in 2012 and then diagnosed 4 months later with Stage 2, Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

Before breast cancer, Ann experienced mild depression with anxiety, however was recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Ann also describes manic episodes and the impact on her life. Ann encourages others to take one day at a time and to not be afraid to ask for help.

Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer originally in 2012, with a double mastectomy. Just recently, Kelly was diagnosed with a recurrence, this time Her2+. Kelly describes the impact that breast cancer has had on her family (mom diagnosed in 1986, and sister diagnosed in 2020 with metastatic breast cancer).

Kelly describes the faith journey and how Sister Mary, a nun from her aunt's funeral has been placed in her journey. Kelly describes her favorite Bible Verse, Proverbs 16, "We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer." Our lives are in God's hands.

Stephanie is a young breast cancer thriver. She shares of her 5 breast cancer recurrences and a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis. A self-described realist, Stephanie talks of her current treatment plan and the ongoing side effects that are impacting her everyday life.

Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Erena Shimoda received her Divemaster certificate in Venezuela in 2005, and began shooting underwater photographs in Thailand, Bonaire, Bahama, Corsica, Cozumel, Cancun, and Hawaii. She specializes in underwater portrait photography and uses her background in New Media and Fine Art to create unique compositions in different media.

She pioneered underwater transformative photography after surviving a car accident in which she lost her father and was severely injured. As a part of her healing process, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better program. The program is for cancer patients to reassure there is beauty during and after cancer.

By combining total immersion with portrait photography, she discovered a powerful transformation that can help others who are traumatized by physical disabilities, domestic violence, and PTSD. The transformative effect of her portraits prompted Erena to use her experience in underwater photography to promote recovery, tranquility and freedom. She knows that the power of water combined with the creative process transforms body and mind.
