Happy 3rd podcast birthday to us!! I can’t believe it’s been three years since starting our passion project, and we feel so lucky to be here. That being said, we decided to make this episode the ~season 3 finale ~ To take a few months off, recoup, and come back sexier, smarter, & better than EVER! I haven’t taken a break in THREE FREAKING YEARS, and with all the transitions going on in my personal life, it felt like the right time. Hello, and welcome back to Raw Intentions Podcast! A few weeks ago, I took a weekend trip to Aspen, Colorado to see friends and shoot content for my new ski line. Pierce & Alex, new friends of mine, helped me with my launch and modeled for me all weekend long. After a full day of skiing, while we pregamed a concert and played a little GTA (my first time and I kind of killed it), we decided to record a podcast. Pierce & Alex are best friends, roommates, and cofounders in their brand, Rollface, which is initially how we connected. A creative concept & branding experiment turned genius apparel brand, which is quite the double entendre. Although their company is coming to a close, we talked about their entrepreneurial journey, as well as much more. How they became friends & business partners, what it’s like living in Aspen, starting a business and making mistakes, and what their next project will look like. We even had a special appearance from their roommate, Mason. Honestly wish we could have recorded for longer, but alas, we had a concert to get to. This week, we have 26-year-old Rachel Straining. Rachel, aka @thenoglutengirl on Instagram, is not only a fabulous food blogger, but also an advocate for all things Crohn's, food intolerance & sensitivity, and bowel disease. Rachel and I connected back in 2019- I had just been diagnosed with Crohn's and felt lost in my chronic diagnosis. Little did I know, when I reached out, Rachel had hit another rock bottom of her own Crohn's journey. Having a bowel, autoimmune disease like Crohn's can be incredibly hard. Not only for the obvious reasons, like chronic pain and discomfort- but it can also be really emotionally taxing. Anxiety, isolation, not being taken seriously, self-blame, and invisible pain are all things that both Rachel & I have experienced. In this episode, we talk about that mental struggle. We discuss symptoms, getting the diagnosis and what that process looks like, finding doctors that have your best interests at heart, lifestyle and diet changes, medications, relationships, and so much more as it pertains to Crohn's. We truly walk you through every step, and leave no detail to the imagination. We did a podcast together back in October, when he came to visit me in Colorado. Since then, he’s quit his job, sold all of his belongings, and set off to travel the world. 7 months in, he’s a changed man. Okay not really, he’s still equaparts boy genius and shit head- BUT, he’s traveled more in the last half a year, than some people travel in their entire lives. Visiting exotic places like Korea, Cambodia, Australia, and islands in Thailand I can’t begin to pronounce. Ethan walks us through his travels thus far; why Vietnam is a must-see, how he ended up with two random thigh tattoos, what it’s like to run with the bulls in Paloma, and why he owes an Aussie RV company a lot of money. We swap stories from our solo adventures and try our best to give advice to others that want to travel, but have no idea where to begin. We laughed til we cried, and disgraced the family name, one story at a time. Clearly, she was not alone in that want, as her shop has skyrocketed since launching. In just 3 years, from making jewelry herself in her bedroom, she now has an office space, a renovated VW van, many employees, and dream clients. Megan shares her secrets to success, mistakes she’s made, and what she learned from them, hiring and managing employees, staying unique, and utilizing social media and in-person markets to grow. We relate to the many woes of being a 28-year-old business owner, and the ways she’s attempting to work through those hardships. I’m having a bit of deja vu, it seems. Around this time last year, I was woefully sad about a boy; and here I am, crying over a man yet again. I'll tell you what- dealing with heartache, breakups, timing not timing for you perfectly, fights, rejection, loneliness, and relationship hardships are awful. I’ve experienced all of these things from multiple angles. I've learned a lot, and now have a lot of tools in my toolbox to cope in a healthy(ish) way. Alli Bridgers, a new friend of mine, is going through her own break up & heartache, so we decided to move through it together and talk about it on the podcast. On today’s episode of Raw Intentions, we dive into all things heartbreak, finding happiness in new singleness, knowing when to pull the plug on a relationship, dating, sadness, loneliness, the comparison game, and how to find that love and happiness again within yourself. To feel ALL the things, lean on friends when you need to, and be patient with yourself. Alli is a bit farther along in the grieving process than I am, so it was so nice hearing her perspective; I got some really fabulous advice myself from her wise words. At the time we recorded this, I could feel my own relationship crumbling as it happened, and knew something awful was around the corner. My gut always speaks to me loudly, and we discuss the importance of listening to your gut, always. If you’re going through this yourself, I am SO sorry. The business almost created itself from there, as the demand for the trucker style baseball cap absolutely exploded. Today on the podcast, please give the warmest welcome to our guest, Dr. Greg Louie, otherwise known as @the_ski_pt. THE physical therapist of the hour, specializing in helping injured skiers get back to the ski hill. I came across Dr. Greg’s page via a reel that found it’s way on my feed. As someone that’s torn their ACL skiing, I gave him a follow, as it seemed he knew a thing or two about ACL’s. After skiing all his life, getting his doctorate, and working in the field for a number of years, Dr. Greg discovered a HUGE gap in treatment. There is a huge difference between getting baseline mobility and strength back, and being truly ready to ski. The muscles and balance and specific movements required to ski with a lower risk of injury or re-injury is incredibly unique to the sport, and it takes a special doctor to recognize that. He has since broken away from his 9-5, and started his own online personalized coaching service, as well as released numerous courses specialized for skiers. Our conversations were so valuable for anyone that skis; whether you’ve suffered an injury, or want to prevent one, or just want to learn more about that realm of sport and recovery, this is the episode for you. Another facet of her life, however, is spirituality. She is incredibly holistic, spiritual, and in-tune with herself and the universe. We ended up talking about all of this for a long time, so I decided to run with it and wow! I’m so happy I did. Hailey shares with us her morning rituals and general practices to show up as the best version of herself. We discuss meditation, how to meet your highest self, the importance of the people you surround yourself with, and how to cut out people that no longer serve you, amongst other things. This is SUCH a valuable episode, and great for anyone dipping their toes into spirituality, or someone that can relate to much of this and wants some inspiration or a gentle reminder. Welcome back to Raw Intentions. This week I decided to take a solo episode and talk about something that so many of us struggle with. Our ever changing bodies, falling in and out of love with ourselves, and toxic relationships with food and exercise. I have struggled, mostly silently, with this for as long as I can remember. I’ve done every fad diet, created awful habits with food and workouts, starved myself only to binge drink and eat almost every weekend, juice cleansed on the regular- you name it, I’ve tried it. I’ve been to therapy for my disordered thoughts and obsessive nature, and have learned a LOT over the years from these various struggles. Not a fun thing to talk about, but i really wanted to share this with y’all; both for myself and for anyone else that has ever silently battled with food. Food is meant to nourish us, allow us to live our lives and be enjoyed, not be the source of anxiety and obsession and hate and guilt. I’ve slowly unlearned so much that I’ve taught myself though the pressures of being a girl in today’s world. So if you’ve ever had similar negative experiences with any of the above, I hope this episode makes you feel seen, heard, and less alone. As we near the end of 2022, I decided to take a look back and reflect on the year. Not only do I take you along on the ride that is my life, from January to December, but I also give you the tools to do this yourself. As an avid journaler, and reflection extraordinaire, I have a little routine I do at the end of each year. I think its important to take a beat, figure out what the last 365 days meant to you, and then look forward to the new year. Reflection is my favorite thing in this world, second to living and experiencing the things I now get to reflect on. So I hope you can use the knowledge from this episode as a blueprint to look at your own life happenings, and the ups and downs that come with this human experience. The belief in clean slates, resolutions, time ending, and beginning, like it does with a new year, is such a cute thing we do. Enter stage left, Hanna Dugas, one of my best friends since moving to Denver. Fitting enough, Hanna and I just returned from back to back travels in Mexico and Aspen. This seems to be a theme in both of our lives; always on the go and down for just about anything. I think that's how we became such close, fast friends; we share a love of exploration, saying yes, and prioritizing travel. So we decided to sit down together and share the tricks of the trade. On this week’s episode, I interview my friends Mack & Tony on a wide array of things. We sat and recorded conversations inside a van; a van who’s interior was built from scratch to create a home within the 70 sq. ft walls it provided. They sold all of their belongings, packed their lives and their dog Dixie, and hit the road for a year and a half of full van life adventures. Mack and Tony not only share advice on purchasing your own van, and building it from scratch (which they lovingly named Chicken Legs), but also share relationship advice, funny stories from their travels, and Kardashian gossip. These conversations were fueled with copious amounts of Cab Sav and Mary Jane, and went into the wee hours of the night. So many of us are on the dating scene; trying time and time again to put ourselves out there and find "the one." Although dating and being single can be endlessly fun and silly, it can also be really hard. On today's episode, Raw Intentions discusses rejection, heartache, and the ugly sides of the dating game. I've had countless experiences rejecting and being rejected throughout my life, but a recent experience had me turned sideways. I share my own recent experiences with the depths and heaviness that rejection involves, as well as things I did to navigate that temporary time in my life and come out on the other side. I also touch on how to be there for a friend when they're having sad girl hours, and how to know when you're ready to cannonball into the dating pool once more. Hola everyone, and welcome to the first officially official episode of Raw Intentions. Sarah Smyth here, and I can't wait to share this passion project with y'all. I say y'all, I'm not sure if anyone will listen, other than my roommates dog and my mom. Although mom, if you're reading this, you're not allowed to be here so go away (respectfully). Today is just a little teaser of what's to come, so I give you my little elevator pitch and tell you why I want to have a podcast in the first place. I have zero plans for this, and can't wait to see it take on a life of it's own.
