Scripture Text: Jeremiah 29:10-14 NRSV

 

Jeremiah 29 gives attention to those in exile, those who had been taken away, captured, kidnapped, deported from their homeland in Judah – and carried away to Babylon. A person can find themselves in exile while being geographically at home or at church. Perhaps many of you feel like those ancient Israelites felt. Perhaps you, too, feel like you’re not where you need to be. In today’s message we learn that God sent Jeremiah to remind the people that God planned to restore them – to give them hope for the future. And Christians today have that same hope. As we worship God and listen for His guidance, He will lead us to our destiny. And even when difficult days come, and they will, we can always live with hope because the Lord walks with us each day. How can you make prayer an important part of your life that indeed changes your life and the lives of those around you? Pastor Wallace suggests to us that how we approach God matters to Him. One of the questions the story about Elijah raises is how do we not only survive but THRIVE? How do we prosper? How do we receive the blessings in life that God wants to give us? When things are going great and when things are not going so great, and you see both in this story. There is a drought in Israel and God sends the prophet Elijah to a brook where he can get water; but then the brook dries up. This experience in his life – all of us have experienced at some time in our life. In today, message Pastor Wallace walks through this story almost verse at a time. Overall, the point of this message is that God wants to move your from here to there. “There” is that place in your life where God wants you to be so He can bless you. Are you where God wants you to be? Whether your brook is full or dry, how can you cooperate with God who wants to give you a bigger life than you can possibly imagine. Trust, risk, receive, and then a little bit of flour and oil becomes a whole lot. Poverty becomes provisions when we trust God. Gloom becomes grace when we trust God. Amen.

A mature Christian is one who is marked by the ability to endure the attacks of a hostile culture and still give God the praise anyhow. In today’s message, Pastor Wallace will teach us the marks of a mature faith. First, a mature faith realizes the power of God. Second, a mature faith recognizes the purpose of God. Third, a mature faith remembers the promises of God. Thus, because God remains faithful to His promises (2 Timothy 2:13), the righteous, in response to God’s faithfulness, will remain faithful, as well. In other words, you can hang on as long as you hold on to God’s unchanging hand. Build your hope on things eternal. Amen.

In today’s message, we will discover why the Bible is so important for our church. In Part II of our sermon series on the Book of Hebrews, we will learn another way God helps us to keep our faith to the end: we are reminded about the Word of God. Pastor Wallace takes this opportunity to reflect upon what is said in this passage with a desire to renew and increase our appreciation of the power of God’s Word. He begins by noticing four things the text asserts about the power of the Word: 1) The Word of God is “Living – it imparts new life to dead sinners and imparts renewed life to His Saints,” 2) The Word of God is “Active and Powerful,” 3) The Word of God is Sharp and Piercing, and 4) The Word of God Judges the Heart. We don’t have to try to hide our sins from God. God’s children can boldly confess even the sins that God’s razor-sharp Word has laid bare because we know that God forgives us, for Jesus’ sake. God’s Word reveals so that we can be healed. Praise God! Amen.

Pastor Wallace takes this opportunity to reflect upon what is said in this passage with a desire to renew and increase our appreciation of the power of God’s Word. He begins by noticing four things the text asserts about the power of the Word: 1) The Word of God is “Living – it imparts new life to dead sinners and imparts renewed life to His Saints,” 2) The Word of God is “Active and Powerful,” 3) The Word of God is Sharp and Piercing, and 4) The Word of God Judges the Heart. We don’t have to try to hide our sins from God. God’s children can boldly confess even the sins that God’s razor-sharp Word has laid bare because we know that God forgives us, for Jesus’ sake. God’s Word reveals so that we can be healed. Praise God! Amen.

In order to get to the Olympics, you have to have three things: speed, skill and most important of all, you have to have endurance. If you don’t make it to the end of the race, you are not going to win any medal. The good news is that the Bible tells us that God always finishes what He starts. In today’s message, Pastor Wallace shares with us why God will help you finish the race. It is because of God’s Sustaining Grace. However, there are three things in life that can cause you to stumble, and that can cause you not to finish well in life. God’s Sustaining Grace says: “I will help you with those three situations: 1) when you are tempted; 2) when you are tired; and 3) when you are in trouble.” With God’s Sustaining Grace, you will be able to keep your eyes focused on the hope of heaven, not just on the here and now. If you don’t make it to the end of the race, you are not going to win any medal. The good news is that the Bible tells us that God always finishes what He starts. In today’s message, Pastor Wallace shares with us why God will help you finish the race. It is because of God’s Sustaining Grace. However, there are three things in life that can cause you to stumble, and that can cause you not to finish well in life. God’s Sustaining Grace says: “I will help you with those three situations: 1) when you are tempted; 2) when you are tired; and 3) when you are in trouble.” With God’s Sustaining Grace, you will be able to keep your eyes focused on the hope of heaven, not just on the here and now. The Manger was dirty. The Manger was planned. The Manger was a sign. Through the manger, there are three things we learn: Jesus’ closeness, poverty, and realness. The most important point, Pastor Wallace shares with us is that they (the shepherds) would never have received the message if they had not decided to go to Bethlehem (house of bread) to “to see this thing that has happened.” (2:15). In other words, one does not feel grateful until one feels satisfied. The paradigmatic example of tis is the Biblical matriarch, Leah, the unappreciated and unloved wife. Leah was the lesser loved wife of Jacob and her heart probably never stopped feeling the sadness of being rejected for her younger, more attractive sister, but in today’s verses we will see her go from desire of attention from a man to praising God! As we grow stronger in our faith and in our understanding of God’s love, we can and should follow the same path. Succinctly, we too, can learn how to be grateful by first being satisfied with what God has blessed us with.

Greetings and welcome to the third part of our sermon series: “How To…” Today's message is “How to Work Out Your Own Salvation: Act the Miracle!” The “miracle” in view here is the activity of God in producing in our hearts and minds and wills the desire and power to obey His Word. The word “act” has in view what you and I do as a result of the miracle God has already performed in our hearts and minds and wills. To “act the miracle,” therefore, is a call to each of us to be diligent in doing what God has commanded. Simply stated we work out the Christian life, or act in obedience to the Word of God, only because God has already been at work within, performing a miracle in our lives. In this sermon, Pastor Wallace will teach us that although, God must first produce within us the power to act; nevertheless, we must then perform the deed. We must make choices and decisions embracing our new found life in Christ Jesus!

]]> Greetings and welcome to the third part of our sermon series: “How To…” Today's message is “How to Work Out Your Own Salvation: Act the Miracle!” The “miracle” in view here is the activity of God in producing in our hearts and minds and wills the desire and power to obey His Word. The word “act” has in view what you and I do as a result of the miracle God has already performed in our hearts and minds and wills. To “act the miracle,” therefore, is a call to each of us to be diligent in doing what God has commanded. Simply stated we work out the Christian life, or act in obedience to the Word of God, only because God has already been at work within, performing a miracle in our lives. In this sermon, Pastor Wallace will teach us that although, God must first produce within us the power to act; nevertheless, we must then perform the deed. We must make choices and decisions embracing our new found life in Christ Jesus!

In today’s message, Pastor Wallace suggest that not much has changed today. There’s a desire and hunger at work that cannot be satisfied, gratified, or fulfilled. It’s the same hunger that Isaiah in chapter 55 wants the people to be attentive to. He wants them to feel the depth of their hunger, to feel the depth of their desire. For what do you really hunger? For what do you really thirst? What do you really desire? Or as White Castle ads suggests: “What you crave? These are questions we need to regularly ask ourselves. They are essential for life’s journey. In this message, Pastor Wallace will challenge you to examine what’s really driving you – what’s really motivating you. The answer is found in the One who alone can give us living water to well within us to everlasting life. We want you to come to or come back to Christ and to drink!

In today’s message, Pastor Wallace suggest that not much has changed today. There’s a desire and hunger at work that cannot be satisfied, gratified, or fulfilled. It’s the same hunger that Isaiah in chapter 55 wants the people to be attentive to. He wants them to feel the depth of their hunger, to feel the depth of their desire. For what do you really hunger? For what do you really thirst? What do you really desire? Or as White Castle ads suggests: “What you crave? These are questions we need to regularly ask ourselves. They are essential for life’s journey. In this message, Pastor Wallace will challenge you to examine what’s really driving you – what’s really motivating you. The answer is found in the One who alone can give us living water to well within us to everlasting life. We want you to come to or come back to Christ and to drink!
