Prey Drive !!!

Prey drive is a hot topic and one we absolutely loved recording. It’s something most owners and trainers will encounter at some point, especially if you’re working with high-energy or working breeds.

Paula and Georgia both own working dogs, so prey drive is something they manage and work with every day. In this episode, they share their real-world experiences – the challenges, the wins, and why, ultimately, prey drive is something they need in their dogs.

Understanding prey drive is a key part of successful training. It can be one of your greatest assets when channeled correctly — but if left unmanaged, it can just as easily become a curse.

We are so excited about you hearing this episode, Rhiannon tells her story all about her career as a detection handler from her beginnings to where she is now. We also get to learn about a world that not many get to experience or have access too. In this episode Rhi will tell her story as detection handler but also how we can apply it to our pet dogs and also how she teaches scentwork to pet dog owners, there is a bit for everyone!! “During my career I have worked in boarding kennels and for a specialist dog handling company, training, handling and recruiting rescue dogs. I have trained dogs to find drugs and tobacco, explosives, cash, live bodies and for conservation.

Dogs always amaze me with their talents, and I still find it astonishing that dogs were able to detect even the smallest trace of odour no matter how concealed the scent was.

Working with dogs has highlighted the importance of good communication with humans and dogs. There is always so much to learn when training dogs and I am continuously learning so I can offer the best approach for my clients.”

I have been involved with animal training for my entire life, from training dogs and horses to chickens, sheep, and cows. My favorite types of dog training are tricks, herding, and general obedience.

After finding positive dog training in 2008, I adapted my skills from traditional methods to more innovative ones. I have found that using positive methods with my dogs is not only more fun but also helps me to create great, no-regrets relationships with my dogs.

I have had high-energy border collies for over 30 years and have learned how to work and relax with them, not always an easy feat for Energizer Bunny dogs. Join me to explore positive new ways to interact with your dog.

All of my training is dog-lover-tested and pup-approved!
