Welcome to our first podcast of 2025! I'm thrilled to have an old friend and neighbor, the renowned comic book artist and creator Bryan Hitch, join me for this episode. I've known Bryan for about 36 years, and it was fantastic to reconnect with him. I've always admired his work, so it was a pleasure to chat about his journey—from growing up in Carlisle to starting his career with Marvel UK. We delve into the inspiration behind his iconic Nick Fury in Marvel's The Ultimates, which played a significant role in shaping the MCU. We also discuss how he designed the Doctor's TARDIS back in 2005 when the show made its comeback, as well as his exciting new collaboration, Redcoat, with Geoff Johns. We cover various topics, including his work in film, and it was truly a joy to have Bryan on the show. I can't wait to have him back again soon!

DOMINIC BRUNT IN CONVERSATION. 

We’re back with another cracking episode of the Carlisle Cult Cinema Club Presents: In this installment, PD has the pleasure of sitting down with a true icon of British television, the one and only Dominic Brunt, known to many as Paddy Kirk or Paddy The Vet from Emmerdale, a role he has embodied for the last 27 years. But today, we’re diving deep into a different side of Dominic—his passion for directing.

While most fans know him for his work on the soap, what you might not realize is that Dominic has a massive love for horror films. Over the years, he has directed five Cracking projects, starting with the slow-burn zombie apocalypse film, Before Dawn (2013), which he starred in alongside his talented wife, Joanne Mitchell. From there, he took a darker turn with the intense loan shark revenge tale, Bait (2014), and continued to explore the bizarre with the wonderfully chaotic Attack of the Adult Babies (2017). After a five-year hiatus, he returned with the gory and humorous werewolf film, Wolf Manor (2022), featuring James Fleet, and just last year, he unleashed the haunting psychological horror, Evie (2023).

In addition to his directing journey, we’ll also share a light-hearted chat about VHS and some of his favorite tapes from his collection, plus a little discussion about his time on Emmerdale. In this episode of the Carlisle Cult Cinema Club Presents, PD sits down with Emmy Award-winning writer David Quantick to discuss the Kickstarter for his latest novel, THE HYENA. Join us as David shares insights into the intriguing world of Deborah Parkinson!

THE HYENA is the story of an artist called Deborah Parkinson. She was a surrealist who grew up in pre-WW2 Plymouth where her dad ran a pub, then she ran away to Paris where she met Dali and Picasso and Frida Kahlo, and fell in love with a mysterious artist called Marius.

When war came, she followed Max Ernst and Leonora Carrington to Mexico, where she hung out with Kahlo again, and met Leon Trotsky. Implicated in Trotsky’s murder, she fled back to Plymouth to deal with the death of her family in the Blitz.

In her later years, she settled down with a family, resolved some issues in New York, and nearly died in an old people’s home.  Nearly.

CARLISLE CULT CINEMA CLUB PRESENTS: STUART MORRISS IN CONVERSATION. 

In the latest episode of the Carlisle Cult Cinema Club Presents, we have the pleasure of talking to Stuart Morriss, the mastermind behind The Misty Moon Film Society. Stuart is a multi-award winning producer and casting director, with a ca reer spanning over a decade in the arts and entertainment industry.

In 2009, Stuart founded Misty Moon Exhibitions and Events, which eventually led to the establishment of The Misty Moon Gallery in London. At the gallery, Stuart curated dark arts themed exhibitions featuring props from classic horror films. His collaboration with Adrienne King from 'Friday the 13th' resulted in her becoming the co-founder of The Misty Moon Film Society.

Misty Moon has gained a loyal following and currently holds events at The Phoenix Artist Club in London's West End and the Cinema Museum in Kennington. Stuart has produced over 100 performances of Robin Askwith's one-man show and organized nostalgic film and television events at these venues.

Stuart's talent extends to producing critically acclaimed plays, including 'A Day In The Lives Of Frankie Abbott' which received a 5-star review at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has also produced a number of short films, casting well-known British and American actors from cult film and television.

In 2022, Stuart appeared in the award-winning documentary 'Cult of VHS', discussing the era of 'Video Nasties' in 1980's Britain alongside his friend and illustrator, Graham Humphreys. Stuart's industry contacts have also allowed him to serve as the casting director on the film 'Pareidolia'.

Join us in this episode as we explore Stuart Morriss' remarkable career, his contributions to The Misty Moon Film Society, and his insights into the world of cult cinema.

Marvel fans, rejoice! PD and The Lads also delve into the superhero genre with two Marvel films. They share their thoughts on "Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania" and "Guardians of the Galaxy volume 3." These Marvel films always deliver an incredible cinematic experience.

Of course, they couldn't forget the horror genre.
