Revisiting How do YOU Feel Loved?

In keeping with the vein of revisiting episodes that can have a massive impact on our relationships I present to you: How do you feel loved?!

How we feel loved is different for every person. I am not just talking about romantic relationships here. For those of you who are parents, you know that each of your children is different in how they feel loved by you.

For our friends, they all are different in how they want to be cared about. How I emotionally support one person is completely different than another person. And if they didn’t tell me what they need, then how would I know that? It is our job to be clear about what our needs are so that we can tell other people. It feels terrible for both people if one is trying to help the other one feel better, but it isn’t in a way that person needs. The helper feels like a failure because nothing they are doing is right and the hurt person feels unsupported.

If we want to have amazing relationships, we get to do the internal work and get to know ourselves. This way we can communicate this information to others so they can care about us in a way that feels good to us. Not everyone is a mind reader.

Revisiting are you listening or offering solutions? One of the hills that I will die on!

I have been talking about this topic so much in the last couple of weeks that I decided to revisit it for everyone!

For those of you who know me personally, you know this is a big deal to me. It is one of the main principles I live my life by.

The bottom line is when we are not actively listening (last week's episode-here) we can easily fall into offering solutions when they haven't been asked for. When we offer unrequested feedback, it can feel like criticism, fixing, and straight up not caring. Which is the opposite effect that someone is usually trying to have.

When someone is in their emotions about something they CANNOT hear the solutions, you are trying to offer them. What most people experience in these situations is hearing they are doing it wrong, not feeling cared about, not feeling seen and heard, feeling invalidated, and unworthy of someone's time.

We are taught by society that fixing is caring and it is not. We are taught that doing is caring and in this situation it is not. In this situation BEING is caring. We are taught that we need to EARN our spot in the relationship by doing. This isn't true in this situation.

I invite you start to pay attention to your conversations with people and notice if they shut down when you start offering unrequested solutions. It is place where we can be more self-aware and truly care about someone.

This is a practice and perfection isn't the goal. I still sometimes fall into fixing simply because teaching is what I spend so much of my time doing. And I catch myself and apologize. It is a skill that can be learned and one of the things I help my clients with. It can change all the relationships in your life.

The second part of this is where we get to be responsible for ourselves and tell people up front what we are looking for. It is as simple as saying, "I need to talk about this, and I would like you to just listen, I am not looking for solutions." You have no idea how relieved the other person feels because now they know exactly what is requested of them and they know how to support you in a way that makes a difference.

Insights with Alicia-Revisiting Giving the Benefit of the Doubt

I decided to revisit an old episode of Insights with Alicia after a conversation I had with someone. She was talking about how she was repeatedly giving someone the benefit of the doubt and it was affecting the friendship. The friendship had become one sided and she was unhappy.

Sometimes our giving nature can put us in a place where we over give through the concept of giving the benefit of the doubt. I have been guilty of this which is why I originally created this episode.

As I took another look at this information, I realized I had recently fallen into some of the hidden negative sides of giving someone the benefit of the doubt. So here it is again in case anyone else needs to have this information! It’s good stuff!

One year ago today I embarked on a journey that I never expected. I started my podcast, Insights with Alicia. Now it has over 2000 views and downloads!

This podcast covers so many things! I talk about relationships, our behaviors and how to shift them for more in our life, intuitive topics and of course animals. It is a great resource to get information that I teach my clients for FREE!

It has been an adventure to create something like this and I’ve loved it. This is what it looks like when you follow your intuition even if you don’t know where it is leading you, even when it is scary and uncomfortable. Amazing things get created.

Insights with Alicia-People are Always Showing Us Who they Are!

In this week’s episode of Insights with Alicia I spoke about how people are always showing us who they are. Every word and action someone is saying or doing is a window into who they are. How they speak, what they say, how they treat people, how they treat themselves etc. is all information that shows us who they are. And we are doing the same thing, we are always showing people who we are.

So where do we get ourselves into trouble? We don’t pay attention to the information we are being given. We fight against the information. We try to prove ourselves. We stick our head in the sand and ignore the information we are being presented with.

How we easily believe sacrificing is love. And I guarantee you it is not.

Sacrificing puts us in victimhood believing we have to do something or give something up in order for someone to love us or for us to be worthy.

I spent years sacrificing until I shifted it and healed the parts of me that believed I needed to sacrifice anything. And now I get to guide others who want to change this for themselves and their family, especially their children. Because sometimes we are teaching this to children without even knowing it.

When we find ourselves in relationships (friend, romantic, work it doesn’t matter) and we are always stressing, worrying, trying to figure out, basically anywhere we are constantly needing to manage a relationship that IS drama. Embodiment isn’t about doing or being something else. We are already it.

When you get very clear about what you want in a relationship it helps in manifesting a relationship that is a match. And this gives you a foundation to build from, so you determine if someone is a match before going through the heartache and the confusion.

This is an exercise that helps you get to know yourself so you can be fully you in a relationship.
