Benny Skinner, aka Bennydrama, has been entertaining us since we have an instagram account. This time, he gave us a TV show that finally portrays a struggle rarely truthfully represented: getting of the closet. That closet.

The icons introduced in Overconpesating made their way to our hearts quite fast, so we'll need a second season. As we wait for that, let us go trough our favourite moments, predictions, and personal dramas.

Serendipity (2001) is the quintessential romantic comedy for hopeless dreamers who believe that destiny will lead us to our soulmate: from missed connections to aggressively whimsical plot twists, this movie has it all, except logic. If we could describe this movie in three words, they would be: corny (because it romanticizes coincidence to the point of parody), insufferable (the leads exist), and implausible (it relies on the universe doing cartwheels and feeds unrealistic expectations). We might be professional haters, but trust - we came prepared with receipts.

We couldn't leave out Alex Consani's Swarovski vape and a heated discussion on which one of Rihanna's babies got the best pregnancy reveal - because coherence is cute, but chaos is on brand.

If you had told us this would be Bong Joon-ho’s next movie after Parasite, we honestly wouldn’t have believed you - but here we are. The world he builds feels so weirdly close to reality that calling it “sci-fi” almost feels wrong, as it’s more of a "see you in ten years" warning.

If you ever catch a megalomaniac throwing a tantrum after losing an election and deciding to colonise space to salvage his ego, do yourself a favour and don’t donate your body to science.

Starting strong with "Contact Hours", a BIFA-qualified short film that came into our lives on a random Sunday lunch-break, and brought to our eyes a harsh but very needed reality check. Following with "Snow White", for which we have the lowest expectations ever, but we're always happy to be wronged. No we're not. We truly hope this film will represent the very needed scapegoat of all of the issues and traumas we've collected so far. Then concluding with "Mickey 17", to which we were sold as soon as Bong Joon-ho's name popped in the credits.

Arguably Pedro Almodóvar’s most iconic film, it unravels the chaos, heartbreak, and absurdity that women face when it comes to men who treat love like a revolving door. Leaving women in their wake to pick up the pieces, while they move on to the next love story.

There’s little solidarity among women, and as we learn, solitude is the nurse of madness.

Nevertheless, The Brutalist will certainly go down in the history of film awards. And it remains a recommendation we'll always be happy to give.

Our mind is still not fully made up about this one. Our key word? Potential.
The expectations where there, but they haven't fully been meet. Is sex villainised or normalised? Though the goth world of this story helps immerse yourself in the film, the lack of depth of the dialogues quickly brings you back to reality. Pros and cons considered, this was overall an interesting watch.
Maybe this movie obtained a couple of nominations too much. What are your thoughts?

In a world where AI has taken over most human roles, it's easy for a lone man to develop a what-seems-genuine relationship with an Operating System.
Impactful and at times disturbing, with Her (2013) Spike Jonze perfectly portrayed what alienation can lead to. And although the hosts - finally - disagree in their liking of the movie, the recognition of its magnitude can't bee denied.
At times hyperbolic for the sake of sci-fi and entertainment, at times so real that it becomes unsettling. This film leaves a lot of space for contemplation, particularly about human relations and the acceptance of our feelings.

Today’s episode is dedicated to the new manifesto of the horny for the last quarter of 2023.
It’s a movie written, and directed by Emerald Fennell that dive steep into the dynamics of British aristocracy through the eyes of Oliver, a social climber played by Barry Keoghan.
Other honourable mentions are the performances by Jacob Elordi, Rosemond Pike, and Allison Oliver, that contributed to create an electric atmosphere. There were a lot of moments that were pleasing to watch, some that didn’t convince us completely but surely three of them shocked the shit out of us. Overall, it’s safe to say this is a solid recommendation. Enjoy the episode.
