Banita Jacks is a Washington, D.C. resident who was convicted in 2009 for the murder of her four daughters: Brittany (17), Tatianna (11), N'Kiah (6), and Aja (5). The case gained national attention due to the tragic circumstances of the girls' deaths and the systemic failures of local social services. In January 2008, U.S. Marshals arrived at Jacks’ southeast D.C. rowhouse to serve an eviction notice. Inside, they discovered the decomposing bodies of the four children in upstairs bedrooms. Investigators estimated the girls had been dead for several months, potentially since the late summer of 2007, during which time Jacks continued to live in the home with the remains. Jacks waived her right to a jury trial, leaving the decision to D.C. Superior Court Judge Frederick H. Weisberg. In July 2009, she was convicted of four counts of felony murder, three counts of first-degree premeditated murder, and four counts of child cruelty. In December 2009, Banita Jacks was sentenced to 120 years in prison (30 years for each child). The case led to significant reforms in Washington, D.C.'s Child and Family Services Agency after it was revealed that multiple reports of neglect had not been properly investigated prior to the murders.

In October 2019, Wade Wilson, a 25-year-old from Fort Myers, Florida, committed the brutal murders of two women in Cape Coral. On October 6, Wilson met 35-year-old Kristine Melton at a local bar and accompanied her home. The following morning, he strangled Melton to death in her residence. Later that day, Wilson encountered 43-year-old Diane Ruiz as she walked to work. After luring her into a vehicle he had stolen from Melton, Wilson strangled Ruiz and, upon realizing she was still alive, ran her over multiple times, leading to her death. ​In June 2024, a jury convicted Wilson of two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, along with charges of grand theft, burglary, battery, and petit theft. The jury recommended the death penalty, which was upheld by Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson in August 2024. Judge Thompson cited the heinous, atrocious, and cruel nature of the murders, as well as the cold, calculated premeditation of the second murder, as factors in his decision. ​Wilson's crimes have had a profound impact on the Cape Coral community and the families of the victims. Melton was remembered as a cat lover and a great friend, while Ruiz was a mother of two sons and described as the "heartbeat of the bar" where she worked.

Shana Grice was a 19-year-old woman from Brighton, England, who was murdered in August 2016 after months of escalating stalking by her ex-boyfriend. After their breakup, Michael Lane repeatedly harassed Shana—sending messages, showing up uninvited, and vandalizing her car. Shana reported his behavior to Sussex Police multiple times, but officers minimized the threat. In one instance, police even fined Shana for wasting police time after Lane claimed she was exaggerating the stalking. On August 25, 2016, Lane broke into Shana’s home, stabbed her to death, and then set the house on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. He later admitted to the killing. In 2018, Lane was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. An independent review found that police failures—missed warning signs, poor risk assessment, and a lack of understanding of stalking dynamics—directly contributed to Shana’s death. Her case is now frequently cited as a tragic example of how stalking is underestimated until it turns fatal.

Matthew Hoffman is an Ohio man whose crimes became known nationwide after a brutal triple homicide in 2010. On November 10, Hoffman broke into the rural home of Tina Herrmann in Apple Valley, killing Tina, her son Kody Maynard, and family friend Stephanie Sprang. He later dismembered the victims and hid their remains inside a hollowed-out tree in the nearby Kokosing State Wildlife Area. During the attack, he abducted Tina’s 13-year-old daughter Sarah, holding her captive in his basement for four days before police discovered her alive during a rescue raid.

Hoffman, who had a history of bizarre obsessions with trees, leaves, and the forest, never gave a clear motive for the killings. He ultimately pleaded guilty to multiple counts of aggravated murder, kidnapping, burglary, and abuse of a corpse. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

This case  centers on the horrific abuse and death of 15-year-old Timothy Ferguson, in Muskegon, Michigan. Timothy, who had autism and special needs, died in July 2022 after enduring months of starvation, physical abuse, and neglect at the hands of his mother, Shanda Vander Ark, and her older son, Paul Ferguson.

Investigators found that Timothy had been forced to eat hot sauce and bread soaked in hot sauce, was often denied food and water, and was confined to a filthy bedroom. Autopsy results revealed extreme malnutrition and signs of long-term abuse. Shanda was charged with first-degree murder and child abuse, while Paul faced related charges. In 2024, Shanda was found guilty of felony murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. The case shocked Michigan and drew national attention for its brutality and the failure of child welfare systems to protect Timothy.

The Exorcism of Michael Taylor is one of Britain’s most disturbing and infamous cases of alleged demonic possession.

Michael Taylor was a 31-year-old man from Ossett, West Yorkshire, living a quiet life with his wife Christine and their five children. In 1974, he became deeply involved in a local Christian fellowship group led by Marie Robinson, a young, charismatic pastor. Christine grew suspicious of their relationship and confronted him publicly, triggering what witnesses described as a violent outburst—Taylor shouted obscenities and claimed evil was inside him.

Believing he was possessed, local ministers arranged an all-night exorcism on October 5, 1974, at St. Thomas’s Church. Over seven hours, priests attempted to cast out dozens of supposed demons representing vices such as anger, lust, and blasphemy. Exhausted, they ended the ritual early—saying a few demons still remained.

Only hours later, Taylor brutally murdered his wife, tearing out her eyes and tongue and stripping her flesh. He was found naked, covered in blood, claiming, “It is the blood of Satan.”

Psychiatrists later attributed his actions to mental illness rather than possession. Taylor was found not guilty by reason of insanity and spent years in psychiatric care.

The case remains one of the most chilling intersections of faith, psychology, and violence in modern British history.

The Eriksson twins, Ursula and Sabina Eriksson, are Swedish twin sisters whose bizarre and disturbing behavior in 2008 became the subject of worldwide attention and speculation.

In May 2008, the twins traveled unexpectedly from Ireland to England for reasons that remain unclear. While on the M6 motorway near Stoke-on-Trent, they were filmed by a BBC camera crew for the show Motorway Cops after running into traffic and being struck by vehicles. Despite suffering serious injuries, both women displayed extraordinary strength and erratic behavior — screaming, resisting police, and attempting to re-enter traffic.

After being released from custody, Sabina appeared calm, but within hours, she fatally stabbed a man named Glenn Hollinshead in Fenton. She then jumped off a bridge but survived and was later convicted of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility.

The case remains infamous for its unsettling mix of shared psychosis (folie à deux), unexplained motives, and shocking violence.

The Redhead Murders were a series of unsolved killings that took place across several Southern states in the U.S. during the early to mid-1980s. The victims—at least six women, possibly more—were all young, light-complexioned, and had reddish or strawberry-blonde hair. Their bodies were discovered along highways in states like Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Mississippi.

Many of the women were never identified for years, and investigators believed they were likely hitchhikers, sex workers, or women living on the margins of society, making them vulnerable targets. The murders shared similar patterns: victims were strangled or asphyxiated and left near major roadways.

Despite investigations and task forces, the case remains unsolved. In recent years, DNA technology and renewed interest have helped identify some of the Jane Does, such as Tina Farmer and Lisa Nichols, but the killer—or killers—have never been conclusively caught.

Krystal Lynn Beslanowitch was a 17-year-old who had moved from Spokane, Washington, to Utah in hopes of starting fresh. On December 15, 1995, her body was discovered along the Provo River near Midway, Utah. She had been brutally beaten to death with large rocks, which were found bloodstained nearby.

The case went cold for nearly two decades, despite investigators collecting DNA from the rocks at the scene. In 2013, advances in forensic technology allowed police to recover a partial DNA profile from the rocks, which was then matched to Joseph Michael Simpson, a former Utah resident who had since moved to Florida. Simpson, who had a criminal history, was extradited to Utah and charged with Krystal’s murder.

In 2016, Simpson was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, finally bringing closure to a case that had haunted investigators for 18 years.

On May 5, 1993, three eight-year-old boys—Stevie Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers—were reported missing in West Memphis, Arkansas. The boys were last seen riding their bikes together in the early evening, near their neighborhood by the Robin Hood Hills wooded area. When they didn’t return home, their parents contacted police, and a search began.

The following day, May 6, searchers focused on Robin Hood Hills, a patch of woods near a busy truck stop and interstate. Around 1:45 p.m., a juvenile parole officer spotted a boy’s sneaker floating in a muddy creek. Investigators searched further and soon discovered the bodies of all three boys submerged in the water, their wrists tied with shoelaces.

 Sierra Mae LaMar, a 15‑year‑old freshman from Morgan Hill, California, went missing on the morning of March 16, 2012, while walking to her school bus. Within days, her cellphone and pink backpack containing her clothes were found in rural areas nearby. Forensic evidence showed signs she may have been abducted. DNA testing matched genetic material on her jeans and belongings to Antolin Garcia‑Torres, who lived about seven miles away and had a history of violence. Additional DNA evidence was discovered in his Volkswagen Jetta—hair on a rope and fibers on her clothing. In May 2017, after a 13‑week capital murder trial, Garcia‑Torres was found guilty of kidnapping and murdering Sierra, as well as attempted kidnappings of three women in 2009. The jury determined he should spend life in prison without the possibility of parole. Crucially, Sierra’s body has never been found, despite extensive volunteer searches—over 1,100 search efforts totaling around 50,000 volunteer hours.

Michael Cochran, a 38‑year‑old from Beckley, West Virginia, died unexpectedly in February 2019, initially believed to be from a medical condition after exhibiting severe brain swelling and dangerously low blood sugar. Subsequent investigation revealed his wife, Natalie Cochran—a former pharmacist—had been running a $2 million Ponzi scheme through a fake government contracting company they had started together. Prosecutors allege Natalie poisoned him with an insulin injection to prevent him from learning the truth before a critical investor meeting. In November 2021, after Natalie had already received an 11‑year federal sentence for fraud, authorities exhumed Michael’s body. Forensic pathologist Dr. Paul Uribe testified that the evidence pointed to homicide by exogenous insulin administration. The defense countered that due to decomposition, the cause was “undetermined and undeterminable” and suggested Michael may have self‑administered insulin for bodybuilding. On January 29, 2025, a jury convicted Natalie of first‑degree murder. She was sentenced to life in prison without parole, concluding a tragic chain of deception motivated by financial ruin.

In 1978, 15-year-old Barbara Nantais was brutally murdered on Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego, California, while camping with her boyfriend, Jim Alt, who was severely injured but survived. In 2012, DNA evidence linked Claire’s murder to Ronald Tatro, a convicted rapist, and Kevin Brown, a former San Diego Police Department criminalist. Tatro died in 2011, and Brown died by suicide in 2014 before charges were filed, amid claims of possible evidence contamination. Despite similarities, police concluded the murders were not connected. Barbara’s killer remains unidentified, and both cases remain unresolved, leaving lasting grief for the victims’ families.

Joshlin Smith was a 6‑year‑old South African girl who vanished from her home in Middelpos, Saldanha Bay near Cape Town on 19 February 2024. Her disappearance triggered a massive search, including community efforts and an Interpol inquiry, but she remains missing. Her mother, Racquel “Kelly” Smith, along with her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis and friend Steveno van Rhyn, were arrested and charged with kidnapping and human trafficking, accused of orchestrating a plot to sell Joshlin to a traditional healer (a “sangoma”) for her eyes and fair skin. Neighbor witness Lourentia Lombaard testified that Smith admitted “I did something silly… I sold my child to a sangoma,” and described seeing the mother leaving with Joshlin in a white vehicle. In May 2025, all three were convicted of kidnapping and human trafficking. Kelly Smith and her co-accused were sentenced to life in prison, with an additional concurrent 10‑year term for kidnapping. The judge noted a lack of remorse from the defendants during sentencing. Despite the conviction, Joshlin’s whereabouts remain unknown and the search continues, supported by both local police and Interpol.

Ash Armand, born Akshaya Kubiak, is a former reality TV star known for his role in Showtime’s Gigolos. In July 2020, he was arrested for the murder of Herleen Dulai, a 29-year-old personal trainer and client. Dulai was found dead in Kubiak’s Las Vegas home, having suffered blunt force trauma and strangulation. Kubiak claimed he blacked out after consuming psychedelic mushrooms with Dulai and acted in self-defense during an alleged attack. However, evidence indicated a violent struggle, and Kubiak was charged with first-degree murder. In September 2021, he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and mayhem to spare Dulai’s family a trial. The Circleville Letters refer to a mysterious series of anonymous, threatening letters sent to residents of Circleville, Ohio, beginning in 1976. The letters targeted individuals with accusations of infidelity, corruption, and other personal secrets. One of the most prominent targets was Mary Gillespie, a school bus driver, who was accused of having an affair with the school superintendent.

In 1977, Mary’s husband, Ron Gillespie, died in a suspicious car crash after reportedly receiving a threatening phone call. The letters continued even after a suspect, Paul Freshour—Mary’s brother-in-law—was convicted and imprisoned in 1983 for attempted murder related to a booby-trapped gun intended to harm Mary. Strangely, the letters persisted even while Freshour was in prison, raising doubts about his guilt.

Despite investigations by law enforcement and coverage on shows like Unsolved Mysteries, the identity of the letter writer remains unknown, and the case is considered one of America’s most baffling unsolved mysteries.

​Wayne Nathan Nance, known as the "Missoula Mauler," was a suspected American serial killer active in Montana from 1974 until his death in 1986. Although never formally charged or convicted, law enforcement linked him to at least six murders and suspected he may have had more victims.​ Born on October 18, 1955, in Clinton, Montana, Nance exhibited disturbing behavior from a young age, including an interest in Satanism and a desire to commit murder. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1977 but was discharged for misconduct. After returning to Montana, he worked as a furniture mover in Missoula, where he was considered an average worker by his peers. However, several female customers reported receiving harassing phone calls after deliveries, and Nance was suspected of being the caller.​ 1Nance's criminal activities came to light after a failed home invasion on September 3, 1986. He attacked his co-worker Doug Wells and Wells' wife, Kris, in their home. Despite being stabbed, Doug managed to shoot Nance, who died the following day. Subsequent investigations linked Nance to several unsolved murders, including those of Michael and Teresa Shook, who were tied up and stabbed to death in their home in 1985. Items stolen from the Shook residence were later found in Nance's home. Additionally, he was connected to the deaths of Marcella Cheri Bachmann and Janet Lee Lucas, both of whom were found murdered near Missoula.​

​Amanda Plasse, a 20-year-old waitress from Chicopee, Massachusetts, was tragically murdered in her apartment on August 26, 2011. She was found with multiple stab wounds in her kitchen by her boyfriend, Seth Green, who immediately called 911. The crime scene showed signs of a violent struggle, including bloodstains and bloody shoe prints. Initially, investigators focused on individuals close to Amanda, but DNA evidence under her fingernails and a palm print at the scene did not match any of them. The case went cold until 2013, when detectives re-examined the evidence and noticed a message on a whiteboard in Amanda's bedroom: "Dennis was here 8/11/11." This led them to Dennis Rosa-Roman, who lived nearby. His DNA matched the sample from Amanda's fingernails, and he was arrested and charged with her murder. ​In 2016, Rosa-Roman was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. The case also led to advocacy for "Amanda's Law," aimed at prohibiting first responders from taking and sharing unauthorized photos of crime victims. This initiative arose after it was revealed that officers had taken and distributed photos from Amanda's crime scene.

​In October 2019, Wade Wilson, a 25-year-old from Fort Myers, Florida, committed the brutal murders of two women in Cape Coral. On October 6, Wilson met 35-year-old Kristine Melton at a local bar and accompanied her home. The following morning, he strangled Melton to death in her residence. Later that day, Wilson encountered 43-year-old Diane Ruiz as she walked to work. After luring her into a vehicle he had stolen from Melton, Wilson strangled Ruiz and, upon realizing she was still alive, ran her over multiple times, leading to her death. ​In June 2024, a jury convicted Wilson of two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, along with charges of grand theft, burglary, battery, and petit theft. The jury recommended the death penalty, which was upheld by Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson in August 2024. Judge Thompson cited the heinous, atrocious, and cruel nature of the murders, as well as the cold, calculated premeditation of the second murder, as factors in his decision. ​Wilson's crimes have had a profound impact on the Cape Coral community and the families of the victims. Melton was remembered as a cat lover and a great friend, while Ruiz was a mother of two sons and described as the "heartbeat of the bar" where she worked.

In October 2017, 39-year-old Nicholis Wilcox was murdered in Plantation, Florida, in a fatal love triangle involving his roommate, Eric Robinson, and Robinson's ex-girlfriend, Isabella Tagliarini. Robinson discovered Wilcox and Tagliarini together and fatally beat Wilcox with a metal rod. He then forced Tagliarini to assist in disposing of Wilcox's body in a dumpster and cleaning the crime scene. ​Robinson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. His initial trial in April 2023 ended in a mistrial due to a witness mentioning his prior domestic violence history. In a retrial, Robinson was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison in June 2023. Tagliarini pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact and awaited sentencing.

In January 1976, the town of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, was shaken by the disappearance and subsequent murder of Jerry Bailey, a beloved high school football coach. Bailey had recently resigned from his position as head coach at Sapulpa High School and was preparing to transition to another coaching role. On the day of his disappearance, Bailey and his assistant coach, Paul Reagor Jr., left the school together but did not return, prompting an extensive search by the community. 

The following day, authorities discovered Reagor in an abandoned farmhouse several towns away, covered in blood. Tragically, Bailey's body was found in the trunk of Reagor's car, having suffered multiple stab wounds. The nature and number of wounds indicated extreme anger, suggesting a deeply personal motive behind the crime. 

Investigations revealed underlying personal and professional tensions between the two coaches. Reagor was subsequently convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. However, he died of natural causes before serving any time of his sentence. 

The case has been revisited in various media, including the true-crime book "Because of the Hate: The Murder of Jerry Bailey" by Kirk McCracken, which delves into the events leading up to the murder, the investigation, and the trial. Additionally, the television series "Murder Under the Friday Night Lights" featured an episode exploring the complexities of the case, highlighting how football, crime, and social issues intersected in this tragic event.

 Amina and Sarah Said were two sisters from Texas who were murdered on January 1, 2008, in Irving, Texas. Their father, Yaser Abdel Said, an Egyptian-American, was convicted of their murders in 2022. The sisters had long suffered abuse and control from their father, and their deaths were widely considered an "honor killing." On the night of the murder, Yaser lured them into his taxi under the pretense of taking them to dinner but instead shot them multiple times. Sarah managed to call 911 before dying. Yaser went on the run for 12 years before being captured by the FBI in 2020. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Jodi Parrack was an 11-year-old girl from Constantine, Michigan, who was tragically found murdered in 2007. Her body was discovered in a local cemetery, sparking a years-long investigation. Ray McCann, a reserve police officer at the time, became a suspect largely due to inconsistencies in his statements and his suggestion to search the cemetery, where Jodi's body was later found. McCann was never charged with her murder but was later convicted of perjury related to the investigation and served 20 months in prison.

In 2015, DNA evidence led to the arrest and conviction of Daniel Furlong, a local resident, who confessed to Jodi's murder and an attempted abduction of another girl. After Furlong's confession, McCann's perjury conviction was vacated, and he was exonerated, highlighting serious flaws in the investigation that initially targeted him.

Marcus Schrenker is a former American financial advisor and businessman known for his dramatic attempt to fake his own death in 2009. Schrenker was facing multiple legal issues, including investigations for financial fraud and embezzlement from clients through his company, Heritage Wealth Management. As authorities closed in, Schrenker devised a plan to escape.

In January 2009, he took off in his private plane from Indiana and made a distress call over Alabama, claiming the windshield had shattered and he was injured. He then set the plane on autopilot and parachuted out, hoping the aircraft would crash and suggest he had died in an accident. The plane eventually crashed in Florida, but with no body found, suspicion quickly grew.

Schrenker was later discovered hiding in a campground in Florida, living under a false identity. He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to charges of securities fraud and causing the plane crash. He was sentenced to over 10 years in federal prison for the fraud and an additional term for the plane crash. Schrenker's story became widely publicized due to its bizarre nature, symbolizing the lengths some will go to escape justice.

Christa Pike is an American woman who became the youngest woman sentenced to death in the United States during the modern era. Born on March 10, 1976, in West Virginia, Pike had a troubled upbringing marked by instability and abuse. At 18, while attending a Job Corps program in Tennessee, she murdered a fellow student, Colleen Slemmer, in 1995, in what was described as a premeditated killing fueled by jealousy and obsession. Pike and her accomplices lured Slemmer to a secluded area, where she was brutally tortured and killed. Pike kept a piece of the victim's skull as a trophy, which became a key piece of evidence during her trial. In 1996, Pike was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death by electrocution.

Jersey Bridgeman was a six-year-old girl from Bentonville, Arkansas, whose tragic murder shocked the community in November 2012. Jersey had endured a difficult early life, including abuse by her father, David Bridgeman, who was convicted in 2011 for chaining her to a dresser as punishment. Afterward, she was placed in her mother's care.

On November 20, 2012, Jersey was reported missing, and her body was discovered in an abandoned house near her home. The investigation led to the arrest of her neighbor, Zachary Holly, who had been a trusted family friend. Holly was charged with kidnapping, rape, and murder. He was found guilty in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Jersey's death highlighted issues of child abuse and the need for stronger community safeguards to protect vulnerable children. Her story continues to serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and advocacy for child safety.

The Nutty Putty Cave incident occurred on November 24, 2009, in Utah when 26-year-old John Edward Jones became trapped while exploring the cave with his family. Nutty Putty Cave, a popular spelunking site known for its narrow, twisting passages, posed significant risks even for experienced cavers. John became stuck upside down in a tight, L-shaped crevice called "The Birth Canal," approximately 100 feet below the surface.

Rescue teams worked tirelessly for over 24 hours to free him, using pulleys, ropes, and other equipment, but his position made extraction incredibly difficult. Tragically, the extreme pressure on his body and restricted blood flow caused cardiac arrest, and he passed away. His body was never recovered due to the dangerous conditions, and Nutty Putty Cave was permanently sealed shortly after the incident to prevent future tragedies. The event highlighted the risks of caving and the challenges of cave rescues.

Little's early criminal history involved various assaults and violent crimes, but he was not convicted of murder until the 1980s. He was linked to the deaths of three women in Los Angeles, for which he was convicted in 2014, though it was later revealed that he was responsible for many more killings.

Up until his capture in 2012, Little had evaded detection by law enforcement, partly because he preyed on vulnerable women, often sex workers or addicts, who went unnoticed in police records. He used his charm and manipulative skills to lure victims, strangling them and leaving little evidence behind. Despite being arrested numerous times for minor offenses, Little's status as a serial killer was not confirmed until he was arrested in 2012 for a drug-related charge in Kentucky. While in custody, DNA evidence linked him to the 1987 murder of a woman in Los Angeles, and further investigations uncovered his involvement in at least 8 other murders.

 The Cokeville Miracle refers to a remarkable event that took place on May 16, 1986, in Cokeville, Wyoming. A gunman, David Young, and his wife, Doris, took over the town's elementary school, holding 154 people—including 136 children—hostage. Young, who had previously planned to commit mass murder, strapped a bomb to himself and placed a larger bomb in the school’s office. However, the bomb failed to detonate, and after a tense standoff, the gunman and his wife were confronted by law enforcement. The hostages were able to escape, and remarkably, no one was seriously injured or killed, despite the bomb being primed to explode. Many survivors attribute their safety to divine intervention, as several reported feeling a sense of protection or guidance during the crisis. The event became known as the Cokeville Miracle, highlighting both the inexplicable failure of the bomb and the heroism of the community members involved.

Ronald Clark O'Bryan, often referred to as the "Candyman," was an American man infamous for his involvement in the death of his eight-year-old son, Timothy, in 1974. O'Bryan poisoned Halloween candy with cyanide, aiming to collect on life insurance policies.  Georgia Tann was a deeply controversial figure in the early-to-mid 20th century, known primarily for her role as the director of the Tennessee Children's Home Society (TCHS). Operating in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1924 to 1950, Tann’s organization was involved in widespread illegal adoption practices. Under her leadership, Tann orchestrated a network of child trafficking that exploited vulnerable children and their families. Many children were forcibly removed from their biological parents or falsely declared to be orphans, then sold to wealthy families across the United States. Tann’s actions resulted in a significant number of stolen children and long-lasting trauma for countless families. Her unethical practices were exposed in the early 1950s, leading to widespread outrage and legal reforms in adoption practices.

Kristin Smart was a college student who went missing on May 25, 1996, while attending California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She was last seen walking home from a party with Paul Flores, a fellow student. Her disappearance triggered a prolonged investigation but initially yielded few leads. In 2002, Paul Flores was identified as a key suspect but was never charged due to insufficient evidence.

Over the years, various searches and investigations failed to find Kristin Smart, but in 2021, the case gained renewed attention. New evidence and witness testimonies led authorities to arrest Paul Flores and his father, Ruben Flores. Paul was charged with Kristin's murder, while Ruben was charged with accessory to murder.

In 2023, Paul Flores was found guilty of first-degree murder, and Ruben Flores was found not guilty of accessory to murder. The case remains a somber reminder of the challenges in solving long-term missing persons cases and the impact on families and communities as Kristin's body has still never been found.

Dennis Rader, the notorious BTK Killer, added to his horrific crime spree with the murders of Nancy Fox, Marine Hedge, Vicki Wegerle, and Dolores Davis. In December 1977, Rader broke into Fox's home in Wichita, Kansas. He strangled her to death with her own belt. In April 1985, Rader murdered Marine Hedge in her home in Wichita, Kansas. Her body was later discovered at a nearby church where Rader was a prominent member. A particularly disturbing aspect of the case was Rader's subsequent actions. He took photographs of Hedge's body in various positions at their church, revealing a level of sadism and obsession. On September 16, 1986, Rader entered Vicki Wegerle's home in Wichita, Kansas, posing as a telephone repairman. He proceeded to strangle her to death with a nylon stocking. In January 1991, Rader broke into Dolores Davis' home in Park City, Kansas. He strangled her to death with pantyhose and left her body near a bridge. This marked the end of Rader's known killing spree, as he would not be apprehended until years later. Davis' murder was a particularly tragic end to a series of horrific crimes that terrorized the community.
Following these murders, Rader went into hiding for over a decade. However, in 2004, he resurfaced, reigniting fear in the community. Through a series of taunting letters and packages to the media, Rader eventually revealed enough information to lead police to identify him as the BTK Killer. His arrest in 2005 shocked the nation, as he was a seemingly ordinary family man and church member.
Rader pleaded guilty to ten murders and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His case remains one of the most infamous in American criminal history.

• Kathryn Bright: In April 1974, 21-year-old Kathryn Bright was attacked in her Wichita home. Rader attempted to strangle her, but she fought back. He then stabbed her and fled the scene. Kathryn's brother, Kevin, was also present and was shot but survived. This was the second BTK murder, following the Otero family killings in January 1974.
• Shirley Vian: Three years later, in March 1977, Rader attacked 25-year-old Shirley Vian in her Wichita home. He forced his way in, possibly following her young son. Shirley's children were home at the time but were locked in a bathroom by Rader. He then tied Shirley up and strangled her.

These two murders, along with the Oteros, established a pattern for Rader's crimes, which continued for decades.

Dennis Rader grew up in Wichita, Kansas. Details about his early life are limited, but there are reports of him exhibiting disturbing behavior like harming animals. After high school, he had a short stint in college but dropped out and joined the Air Force in the mid-60s. Upon discharge in 1970, he returned to Wichita, married, and took various jobs, including one at a security company. By 1974, he seemed to be living a normal life, but beneath the surface, his dark urges were brewing. On January 14, 1974, Dennis entered the home of the Otero Family, making this his first set of murders.

The Kurim case is a disturbing true crime story that occurred in 2007 in Kuřim, Czech Republic. It involved  the horrific abuse of two boys, Jakub (7) and Ondrej (9) Mauerová, by their own mother, Klara Mauerová, her sister, Katerina Mauerová, and a woman named Barbora Skrlová. Further investigation revealed a dark and disturbing story.  The boys were allegedly subjected to starvation, torture, and ritualistic abuse,  all documented by the perpetrators  themselves.  These videos were  intended to be used as evidence of alleged Satanic rituals by a nonexistent cult. The trial became a media sensation in the Czech Republic.  All three women were found guilty. Klara Mauerová received the harshest sentence of 12 years imprisonment. Skrlová and Katerina Mauerová were sentenced to  8.5 years and 10 years respectively.

This week Megan and Lindsay take you across the pond once again to take a look at the 1993 abduction of two year old James Bulger by two ten year old boys, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson. Denise Bulger took her eyes off of her baby for only seconds when Jon motioned to James to follow them. They easily took him by the hand and casually walked out of the Strand Shopping Center without anyone paying any mind. They take James on a 2.5 mile walk through town for hours, all while hitting and punching him and being seen by at least 38 adults. Not one person stepped in to save little James and in the end the boys took him to the train tracks where they ultimately beat him to death and left him lying across the tracks. Just before Christmas in 1997, a family had their world turned upside down when a fire broke out in their home. All family members were taken out of the home except 10 day old Delimar Vera. Delimar was asleep in the upstairs bedroom and when her mother, Luzaida, reached Delimar's room she was no where to be found. This week Megan takes us back to the 1960s when life was tough and trust in others was strong. Obviously her son had no idea that she had done this and she said that he is the happiest she's seen him in years!

We are jumping into one of the most well known serial killers, Edmund Emil Kemper, A.K.A. The Co-Ed Killer, The Co-Ed Butcher, Ogre of Aptos, The Mad Titan, and my favorite "Big Ed". He began murdering at age 15 and continued into his adulthood until finally killing the one person who seemingly sent him into these rages in April of 1973 at age 25. He's a dichotomy of a man in that he's one of the most horrific murders of our time but was also one of the most likeable. His police friends didn't even believe him when he called to confess and turn himself in. Pull up a chair, grab a drink, and strap in for this 3 part series on a man who duped more professionals than anyone could!

This week we take you to Macomb County, Michigan where a deputy is called to a vehicle on the side of the road, When he arrived he found a man who said he just needed a break because he has several stressful situations that were just overwhelming him but that he did not want to harm himself. When the officer asked if he needed anything he responded with, "a hug". The officer complied and spent several more minutes with the man and a backing officer making sure he had the resources he needed including their own contact information. The video is extremely heartwarming and we will post a link to it on our social media.

This week Lindsay covers a very recent case from Oklahoma. Lawrence Paul Anderson had his prison sentence committed and is released from prison early... Which ends up being proven a mistake. Just 3 weeks later he goes on to kill house unless lean Pye, his great niece Kaeos Yates, and their neighbor Andrea Blankenship. He also tried to kill his aunt Delsie Pye by stabbing her multiple times, including in  the eye. He cut out pieces of Andrea and tried to first his family you eat them for dinner.. He even made potatoes to go with her heart!

** This Week's Soul Cleanse**
17 Year old Grace Pontzer was at her local Planet Fitness working out with friends when  a man across the gym fell off of his treadmill. She really didn't think anything of it until she noticed that the man was not getting up. Concerned, she ran to see if he was alright. When she got to him, she noticed he was unresponsive. Being newly CPR certified she jumped into action rolling him onto his side then onto his back where she began life saving chest compressions. Another woman in the gym who was a CNA came to help Grace in doing the chest compressions. After about four rounds, she got the defibrillator and gave the man an electrical shock through the chest and by the time paramedics arrived on scene, he did have a pulse and was once again breathing. Dr. Blake Wachter, a cardiologist at the Idaho Heart Institute, said, "Grace absolutely saved this man's life.  Had he stayed on the ground a couple more minutes, he would not have had such a great outcome as he did."

This week we head to Las Vegas where a devoted father is found suspiciously mutilated, stuffed in a sleeping bag, and set on fire in his own garage. The one thing that is truly baffling is that his 16-year-old daughter Sierra is no where to be found and is not responding to phone calls or text messages. That is until she and her boyfriend are found in Salt Lake City, UT by the Utah Transit Authority Police. Come with us on this wild ride, you won't regret it!!

**This Weeks Soul Cleanse**
This weeks soul cleanse focuses on Smith Alley and his amazing life path, The Live Life Bigger Foundation. He is the founder and has one of the most touching stories. As a young teen, he found himself on the brink of committing suicide after  enduing bullying for a speech issue and size plus an addiction to pornography, something he was exposed to at an extremely young age. His parents found out about his suicide plan and told him that they were there to help him fight but he needed to fight for himself as well. So he began focusing on helping other children overcome so many of life's curveballs and to let kids know that they aren't alone and they are loved.

This week Megan is taking us into the life of Israel Keyes, a man that has been referred to as one of the most prolific serial killers you've never heard of. He would spend his adult years traveling the country, burying "kill kits" across the United States so that in the weeks, months, or years to come, he could return and fulfil his desire to kill in that specific area. This story takes us into how the murder of Samantha Koenig, the only one he murdered in his home town, would be the one to ultimately get him captured and the murders of Bill and Lorraine Currier. A married couple who had simply vanished in 2011 and to this day, their bodies have never been recovered and most likely will never be found. He is a meticulous and deviant serial killer, one for the ages and I'm so glad is no longer a free man.

This week we are shining a spotlight on an amazing person with an amazing idea. His name is Iuri Melo and after being contacted by a Utah principal about the rising cases of teen suicide, he came up with SchoolPulse.  This is a text based platform that allows students the opportunity to speak up about their feelings in a way that is easy and familiar to them.  SchoolPulse is empowering students, schools, and parents to be proactive in promoting mental wellness. They have also started to branch out to service members, active or veteran.  You can reach them at schoolpulse.org.

This week Lindsay covers a story that was brought to us by a listener. We are so honored she wanted us to cover her personal story of loss. This is the story of her husband, Derek Davis and his best friend Chad Grijalva and their untimely murders.

A woman who was attacked by a man who was just out looking to kill, survived this terrifying attack and after recovering in the ICU, she was really upset about the brand new Cardinals jersey that she was wearing during the attack because it was ruined. The Davis County Sheriff's Department learned about this and pooled money together and bought her a new jersey! 

This weeks case is one of betrayal and deceit. We look into the murder of self made millionairess Mina Pajela, whose life goal was to help others, especially the elderly. She was taken too soon by someone who was supposed to be her friend and mentee.

This week we highlight Jaydenn, a little 9 year old boy here in West Valley whose birthday is on New Year's Eve and when no one showed up to celebrate his day, his mom took to Facebook just asking that people wish him a happy birthday so he knew that people did care. In turn, people started sending gifts and money to him all throughout the weekend to make sure his birthday was the best yet!!


Welcome back for part 2! This part, we are going to go over the more recent proceedings where the Utah State Mental Hospital had requested to release Jeremy Hauck. We will go over the 21 conditions on which the hospital said they would place in effect if he were released and what the judge ultimately rules. This case is so difficult. It's a matter of mental illness and murder.....

**This weeks Soul Cleanse**
This is a story about Sierra Sandoval, a mother of a four-year-old son and a six-month-old baby girl. Her daughter had just recently gotten out of the hospital after having RSV and the family was stressed with holiday expenses and medical bills. While at Walmart in Layton, UT, a little boy came up to her in the store and gave her an envelope saying, "I just wanted to spread the holiday spirit." After opening the envelope, she realized she had been given $500! Instead of using the money for her personal needs, she decided to pay it forward, using the majority of the money to purchase supplies for the Lantern House, a homeless shelter in Ogden, UT.  In the spirit of such a selfless act, we are hoping to help gather more supplies for the shelter as well. During these they invite women from the local shelters to come and get themselves some new clothes and whatever they need. How awesome is that?! Jessica Smith, a wife and mother of four, was diagnosed October 15, 2022 with a rare persistent chronic cancer called Adenoid Cystic cancer in the salivary glands. She will need extensive surgeries and facial reconstruction. Jess is a pillar in her community, getting involved in anything and everything to lift others, such as Cops and Cupcakes. She fiercely loves her family and her downtown Ogden home. She loves God and outs her trust in His will at this time. Instead, she took the time to reach out through Facebook and let Megan know she had her package. In these times, we believe that bringing light to kindness, in any form, is so important!

Now onto the nitty gritty! This week we are taking a look at the Derrick Todd Lee case part 2. I know I said that I was hoping that it would only be 2 parts but alas here we are and I am just finishing up research for the 3rd and final part! This week we spend our time in the 90s and early 00s going over the 7 confirmed victims, 3 more potential victims, 1 stalking case, and 1 case of survival.  This episode is long, gnarly,  and so so frustrating. So grab a Fiiz or your favorite drink and a snack and hunker down for this one, you won't regret it....at least, I hope!

We are heading to the deep south, Louisiana, a place with rich history dating back to the 1500s and deep deep racial lines. We'll be focusing on the towns of Zachary, where Connie Lyn Warner, Lee's potential first victim loses her life, and the town of St. Francisville, the home of Derrick Todd Lee who would later become known as The Baton Rouge Serial Killer or The Ghost of Baton Rouge. Taberon has been on Utah's death row for 23 years now, one of only 7 inmates we have on death row.
