In this episode we reconnect with a previous guest Jennifer Streeter, who is currently reporting on the NHL, NCAA, and PWHL with Sports Illustrated & Sporting News. After a long time serving as a Rangers beat writer, and a Rangers fan at heart, we talk about the highs and (mostly) lows of the season, capping the season off with Jonathan Quick's retirement, the prospect development, and the New York Rangers leadership group as a whole moving forward.

With the last home game of the season, the Rangers fall short of completing an entertaining home-stand, losing to the Sabres after recapturing the lead briefly. In what has been a disappointing year on all fronts, some players have been truly entertaining to watch. As the organization embraces this new chapter, the apparent "youth movement" of players like Adam Sykora, Jaroslav Chmelar, Drew Fortescue, and to a lesser extent, Lafreniere, Perreault and Cuylle, have been exciting to watch as them come into their own. When the Letter 2.0 was first minted, I along with many Rangers fans had my second thoughts about how to team planned on executing such a task, but as we watch some of these players become household names, it's going to be a fun season to watch next year if instead of "retool" they really just meant "let the kids cook".

After an electric goalie fight between Igor Shesterkin and Jacob Markstrom, the New York Rangers extend their winning streak at home to three games, as they continue to find ways down the stretch to leave feeling good about their performance. As much as I'm rooting for some lotto luck, it is nice to see them not lose sight and put up strong games, albeit a little too late and against some teams that are also struggling. On today's episode, we are joined by Lydia Pirner, a New York Rangers beat reporter for WFUV Sports. We chat about the recent call-ups and their continued impression on the current lineup, with guys like Dylan Garand, Adam Sykora, and Drew Fortescue making decisions on management and coaching staff much more difficult than expected.

As we reach the end of the season, with playoffs hopes offically over with the loss to the Maple Leafs, we chat through this episode about the best usage of time for the final 10 games of the season. The Rangers have recently signed Drew Fortescue, a young and exciting prospect that could perhaps make his NHL debut sooner than later, with question marks surrounding the current d-core and Drury's willingness to move on from some of them. Adam Sykora made his NHL debut against the Leafs, and didn't look uncomfortable either. In my opinion, it's much better to have him play these games than someone like Sheary or Parssinen. And rookie goalie from Hartford, Dylan Garand, made his first NHL start the other night and looked good doing it, despite the shootout loss to the Jets. The Rangers are past moral victories, they're past the point of having hope come from the standings, what matters now as the season draws to a close is that they figure out what they have in the locker room, and what's waiting for them in the minor ranks.

The New York Rangers are a puzzling team. It took them the better part of the season to string together 4 wins, win a back to back, or manage to produce really anything to get the fanbase excited. Since the break, the team is 6-3-2 following the loss on Wednesday night to the devils, which doesn't exactly sound amazing, but if that was scaled over the course of an 82 game season, it would be good for 102 points, and put them comfortably in the playoff mix. If there's any silver lining, Igor Shesterkin has been nothing short of incredible, the power play is clicking, and the top line of Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, and Gabe Perreault is simply a treat to watch. In just the last 9 games, the three has 34 combined for points and has connected for some incredible plays, demonstrating amazing chemistry. When the games don't matter and the points don't either, it's nice that there's at least something to watch, even without a winning result. If they win? I'm happy to watch. If they lose? It doesn't hurt their draft lotto odds.

The New York Rangers sure picked the worst time of the season to start playing good hockey. Since the Olympic break, the team has just one regulation loss, earning points in 6 of their last 7, with back-to-back wins by four goal margins. While these wins haven't necessarily come against the league's best teams, they certainly aren't taking their lotto standings into consideration before the game. The dynamic line of Mika Zibanejad centering Gabe Perreault and Alexis Lafreniere has been white hot, recording 14 points in a 24 hour span, combining for 20 total points in their 4 games together. It serves as amazing benchmark for the potential the Rangers youth has in their system, and it doesn't hurt to have some fun hockey to watch, regardless of if it's too little too late. With a team comfortably outside of the playoff hunt, minus an unprecedented 19 game win streak, these last few weeks of the season can be extremely helpful for the organization moving forward to give them a better idea of who they are and what they have.

With just days leading up to the trade deadline, the Rangers receive blow after blow in what has been an absolutely miserable season. After finally getting Igor Shesterkin and Adam fox back from injury, JT Miller has been committed to IR and Fox in unsure about his future with the team. We unpack his initial comments, and the decision to double down on those statements even after being given an opportunity to spell it out to the fans whether he truly wants to stay here. As we near closer to Friday's deadline, it raises even more questions than simply "who will be here after this week?" or "what are we going to get back?. The question now becomes- how long is this going to take if Adam Fox does get dealt this offseason?

With the NHL olympic break officially over, we anxiously look forward to Rangers hockey returning, even if the team is solidly out of a playoff picture. The final stretch for the Rangers leaves a lot of question marks, especially in the wake of team USA capturing gold for the first time in 46 years. We briefly touch on the excitement of the games themselves, and segue into how key piece of the puzzle Vincent Trocheck may have only elevated his value through his showing in Milan. A key cog for the Rangers, who was left off the USA roster may also make his return tonight. Adam Fox, a no doubt cornerstone to the franchise, can prove the haters wrong in the waining months of the season and help cement himself back into the conversation for one of the league's best defenders. With the NHL season on pause, we enter not only the roster freeze but the Olympic break while the New York Rangers currently hold the 3rd best odds at the number one overall pick in the upcoming NHL entry draft. Outside of some luck to get the 1st pick, which I don't think many Rangers fans are confident they could actually secure some franchise altering talent, we chat in this episode about other teams in a similar position that may be worth chatting with to drum up a potential trade. The state of the upcoming UFA pool has been long discussed, and the Rangers brass needs to look elsewhere to improve this team if they wish to turn it around sooner. Whether it be Thomas from the Blues, Huberdeau from the flames, or Tkachuk from the Senators, there are a handful of teams floundering in mediocrity that I would be aggressively calling to make a deal if I'm Chris Drury.

The news finally dropped just as the clock struck 3pm this afternoon, signaling the NHL roster freeze is now in place. The bombshell that every Rangers fan had been anticipating all day, broken by Adam Schefter of all people, Artemi Panarin has officially been traded to the LA Kings for a underwhelming return. We dive in on this episode discussing the trade, which was spearheaded by Panarin's leverage in the situation, and why I would personally rather have a 20 year old prospect than a late 20s pick in the current retool climate. I'm just as sad to see him go as I knew I would be, but hopefully this is the first positive step towards brighter futures on Broadway.

"The Rangers Retool" has officially begun, and as predicted in last week's episode, it was done very shortly after the letter was released to the fans. In my opinion the return doesn't blow me out of the water, but Carson Soucy was a depreciating asset and not a part of the long term plan anyway, so it's nice to get some value for him. As for the next dominoes to fall? We've doubled down, and believe another trade will be made before we record next week. It's simply not smart to wait until the deadline proper and hold chips while the league is fully aware of your plan. Drury's best move would be to set the market and let people fight over scraps, rather than be a victim to it, or worse, keeping his hand and bluffing until it's too late.

With some time removed from the infamous Letter 2.0, we had some time to reflect on what the last 8 years has meant to the New York Rangers, and to us all, the fans. In this episode, we breakdown who out of the team truly represents "the core" and who makes up the list of players who can expect their time in blue to end shortly. The rest? It's pretty debatable. There's merit for some guys, as a handful of Rangers could surely net a fair return. There's also a list of players that would certainly do well with a change of scenery, but the overarching question is this: if this is a retool and not a full on rebuild like last time, how competitive can this team be in the next 18 months if it's gutted down to the studs in the coming weeks?

The New York Rangers are officially spiraling out of control, and the fans are calling for General Manager Chris Drury to be fired with loud chants of "Fire Drury" at back to back home games. It started with a smattering to Boston with a 10-2 loss, the teams worst loss since 2009. The problems continued on home ice in the following game after surrendering a 2-0 lead over the Kraken, only to give up 4 straight in Kakko's return to MSG. After Seattle the Blueshirts doubled that goal total, losing 8-4 in the Garden against Ottawa, where fans again chanted "Fire Drury"- this time just 5 minutes into the game after allowing two early goals. Where does the team even go from here? If Drury hasn't felt pressure from James Dolan, who in a recent interview gave a glowing review of the GM's management skills and even extended his contract at the start of the season, he's certainly feeling the pressure from the fanbase who has grown outwardly disgusted.

After a rough OT loss to the Utah Mammoth, the New York Rangers were struck with awful news- they will be without their star goalie Igor Shesterkin for a period of time, and arguably worse news, Adam Fox will be back on LTIR after recently getting him back into the lineup. It's tough to say which injury will do the team in the most, but considering how well Quick has played, and the tenacity he has brought in the games he's played, there is nobody on the team quite like Adam Fox. The power-play was starting to show hopes since his return, going 5 for 8 in the small sample size of games with number 23 back in the lineup, but this stretch of games will truly magnify what moves General Manager Chris Drury attempts as the team nears the trade deadline.

With the NHL season officially at the 50% mark for the New York Rangers, they find themselves in a difficult spot for the future, with the next steps ahead very unclear. Do they part ways with Artemi Panarin, waiving the flag of defeat in doing so, and try to acquire some pieces for the future? Not likely, as that would explicitly take them out of the playoff race, and they'd be lucky to make the playoffs even with him on the roster. Do they make attempts to re-sign him, even though it hasn't exactly culminated in success for the Rangers? Or does the team look at other roster players like Lafreniere or Trocheck to possibly deal, while still keeping most of their core around? The New York Rangers front office has some tough decisions to make before the deadline, and 2026 is shaping up to be an important year for the future of the franchise.

In a dramatic comeback win, the Rangers never seem to be boring. After trailing in the third period, the team rallied back with 5 goals for the first time in over 50 years, and have the third most 3rd period comeback victories in the league. They're quite fascinating, because this is the same team that dropped a lifeless effort to the Predators, and were able to beat on a team above them in the standings with a flurry of offense after a low shot total for two straight periods. As the team sets into a short break before the Winter Classic, let's hope they can put the year of 2025 behind them and focus on a playoff berth with just a few points separating them from the top of the Metropolitan Division.

After gutting shutout losses to the bottom dwellers of the league in the Blackhawks and Canucks, with a non-competitive loss on home ice sprinkled in there at the hands of the Ducks, the Rangers have quickly found themselves in hot water in the absence of Adam Fox. Since going down to injury, the New York Rangers are now 3-3-2 with just one regulation win in the last 8 games minus their top blueliner. In today's episode, we take it as an opportunity to stray from our typical ever-optimist path, and highlight some of the glaring holes with the benefit of a large enough sample size from this group. Here's hoping Chris Drury has the same impression as fans do, because time is quickly running out on this group if massive changes aren't done.

With back-to-back overtime losses to both the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights, the Rangers still found a way to secure 6 out of a possible 8 points in their last 4 contests, and find themselves in the midst of a tight race in the Metropolitan. With a short stretch of winnable games before the holiday break, can the team rally around some moral victories as they inch further in the standings, or will the season of mediocrity continue for New York? With key contributions up and down the defensive lines in the wake of the Adam Fox injury, it's going to be on the teams best players to continue their recent point totals if the team has a shot of embedding themselves in the playoff mix by the start of 2026.

With three straight wins on the road in impressive fashion, the New York Rangers were up to their usual tricks at Madison Square Garden, losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in what is now their 4th shutout loss on home ice this season, and their 6th home loss on the season. It's difficult to stomach, especially considering they led in shot edge for most of the first and played arguably the best 12 minutes to start a period at MSG than they have all year. The good news? The team plays their next game on the road before heading back to the Garden for some much needed wins against two very beatable teams in the Red Wings and Islanders.

The New York Rangers set an NHL record after the Oilers game but not the one anyone expected them to break. In the history of the NHL, no team has ever been shutout in their first 3 home games of the season...until Tuesday. Obviously the second the game starts for their first home game back against the Wild that record will only increase, and as much as their captain JT Miller has been quoted in saying they wont look into it, the pressure will be felt by the players and coaching staff alike to get out to an early lead. On the bright side, the Blueshirts begin a small road trip to Canada to take on the Leafs and Canadiens before rebounding back to Madison Square Garden. Is the sky falling? Not yet. But it could be soon if the Rangers can't convert their offense into goals, especially with the breaking news of Vincent Trocheck's injury landing him on LTIR until November.

In what was an absolutely wild few days for the organization, it feels like hope has been slightly restored within the New York Rangers fanbase. Chris Drury deserves his flowers for unloading K'Andre Miller for, in my opinion, a lot more than people were suggesting he would get back. He wasted no time in free agency, signing shutdown defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to lesser deal than he was rumored to receive, and on top of all of that, the money K'Andre made right after makes this entire sequence a slam dunk. There's no planet where Miller would have ever made 7.5 million dollars in a Rangers uniform, and with a bonafide top pair locked up with Adam Fox flanking Gavrikov, it gives the Rangers a chance to max our their potential with a skilled lineup that underperformed.

For the first time in a number of years, the New York Rangers season draws to a close in April- something that still doesn't feel real to even imagine. The New York Rangers have been an utter disappointment, and the drop-off from first place overall to missing the playoffs entirely should be studied. How did they manage to get such varying results with a team that looked pretty similar to last year at the start of the season? If you look around the top 6, every single player had a down year, but the issues seem bigger than that. Not only did the stars of the team have huge set backs, but there seems to be a huge rift right now in the locker room, capped by the bombshell information that head coach Peter Laviolette doesn't even go into the room after a game. Not just after a loss, the coach is nowhere to be found after a win. Ask the Cup Champion Florida Panthers where their coach is after a game. Enjoying a post-win speech with the fellas, that's where. The Rangers fans just cant catch a break. After watching the team struggle to generate shots for the first period, mustering just two total on net before the first buzzer, I somehow convinced myself that it would be a good idea to stay up until 1am just to watch another devastating loss. The team has won just 3 of their last 10, and truly seem to be bowing out at this point. Even well respected players like Mika Zibanejad and Vinny Trocheck said they felt the team played well despite the loss...I couldn't disagree any more, and the fact that some of the leaders in the room feel this way tells you everything you need to know about their current state of unmitigated chaos.

It finally happened, the will to watch this version of the New York Rangers flounder helplessly has completely left my body. After what can only be described as a nightmare rollercoaster season, the Rangers have shown their true colors and flopped in the most epic of ways on Tuesday night. In arguably the worst showing of the season, the Blueshirts registered their lowest shot total since December 23rd- a moment in time that truly symbolized rockbottom. This Flames team was coming off a game where they were dominated by Toronto, and you'd expect a solid push from a group attempting to secure a playoff spot. Instead, the former President's Trophy winning squad put up one of the saddest performances in recent memory. The only one who looked engaged was Igor Shesterkin, posting a .943SV% and even mixing it up physically in attempts to spark something from his team. In hindsight, maybe it's a good thing we extended our franchise goaltender to such a lofty amount. If I were him I would also need eleven and a half million reasons to play for this team.

Rarely do I get this excited to talk about hockey when nothing major has really happened, but it really fires me up to hear how counted out the New York Rangers are. I've been told they're selling, they're not committed to the playoffs, they're not committed to the coach, but yet here we are sitting in a playoff spot. The team pulled off one of the best deadline deals they ever have, acquiring JT Miller for an injury prone 3rd liner and a 2nd round pick. The former 100 point player has hit the ground running and fit the mold of this team perfectly, scoring 14 points in his first 11 games as a New York Ranger. The only player with more in that timespan? His line-mate Mika Zibanejad. Make no mistake, this team expects to make the playoffs and the front office will do everything in it's power to force the issue.

One cannot help but be a little frustrated at this version of the New York Rangers. On one hand, there's a strong argument to be made that had JT Miller been on last season's Eastern Conference Finals team, or the iteration that went there two seasons prior, that the team very well could have advanced. We go from losing to the Penguins, a team that was reeling the loss of their only start player, to beating a more competitive team in the Blue Jackets that were also without their best player- both games decided by just a goal. In what looked to be a far-fetched idea at the time, the New York Rangers and Chris Drury shocked the world, with only the second most surprising trade in sports this week. The trade for JT Miller was originally speculated to include Lafreniere, Chytil, plus a first round pick just to start, but the Rangers were able to only include the latter of the two with Mancini as the sweetener. On paper, the Rangers spent more money to get older, but anyone familiar with JT knows this price only comes around once...unless you were the Lightning in 2018. Regardless, I think it's fair to say the Rangers won this trade and are still not done tinkering.

Though the team faired well against the fellow wildcard foes, it will be interesting to see how the new-look Rangers can navigate the upcoming schedule, with games against mostly struggling teams in contention.

In another game of one step forward and two steps back, the Rangers enter a really difficult stretch of games before the break and then return for more difficult opponents in a mad dash to save the season. Coming off a win vs the Dallas Stars, the New York Rangers took back to back losses to the Metropolitan Division Hurricanes and Devils who both currently jockey for the Metro lead. The break couldn't have come at a better time though, and should hopefully serve as a little reset for the team. It always seems like the break comes at a point in the season that disrupts our momentum, but this season, it could not have come at a better time!

As the NHL Stanley Cup Final presses on, it is a little relieving to watch the Florida Panthers completely have their way with the Edmonton Oilers. On one hand, the Oilers to me represent a team we could have very well beat if we had advanced to the finals. But on the other hand, it truly shows how good of a team the Panthers are. If they can hold McDavid and company the way they have, it's no wonder the New York Rangers star power completely dried up after an impressive showing to that point.

Recording an episode after losing in the conference final was challenging, but thankfully we had the weekend to sleep it off.
