Before reaching the Rockies, an unexpected stopover at JFK gave us a reminder that lifestyle isn’t just about destinations — it’s about the in-between moments. A surprise visit from our daughter, a hug between flights, and the simple joy of connection turned a routine layover into a memory. Moments like these show that lifestyle is built one intentional pause at a time.

From Denver’s kosher comfort foods to the snow-dusted peaks of Vail, the Rocky Mountains offered both beauty and perspective. Elk crossed the road like royalty, the sunset from our hotel window felt like a blessing, and the stillness of the mountains offered a powerful reminder: the higher you climb — in life or in business — the quieter it gets, and the more clarity you gain.

Our journey continued to Aspen’s John Denver Sanctuary, where the lyrics carved in stone echoed themes of love, gratitude, and nature. Then came the dramatic sandstone arches of Utah’s Arches National Park — a place that inspires awe without ever needing to “prove” anything. Each stop reinforced the core message: lifestyle matters because success without the freedom to enjoy your life isn’t success at all.

What can we do about Terrorism? Love Your Neighbor as you Love Yourself

A Story about Love

There was a happily married couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  When asked what the key to their successful marriage was, they answered that they learned early on to divide the decision-making process.  When it came time for very “important decisions” he would decide.  The “unimportant decisions” she decided.

So, he decided the “important matters” such as who they would vote for and what should happen in global politics.

She would decide the “unimportant matters” such as where to live and how to raise the kids.

This worked for the couple in this story, which I’m sure you get is a joke, but I’m sure we all realize the point.  We quite often get what’s really important in life mixed up with what is not.

How do we stop terrorism – through the commandment to love.

The world seems to be spiraling out of control and hatred between political sides and religious sides seem to be tearing every country apart.

I think it is this hatred that is allowing terrorism to happen and the way to defeat it is through love.

Terrorists are not taking a political or religious side in an argument.  Terrorists are using our ideas as an excuse to destroy, mutilate and demean the value of humanity.  It is a disease that cannot be allowed.

It is not the hatred of the terrorists towards us that is giving them power, it is the hatred between those of us who want this world to be the best place possible for all of us and have differences of opinion on how that should be done that is the problem.  It is blocking our ability to unify together and stop the terrorism however it is necessary.

We are commanded to Love 18 times in the Five Books of Moses.  How can you be commanded to love?  Isn’t it something beyond our control?

One of the 18 times is in Leviticus 19:18 it says “Don’t take revenge, don’t bear a grudge, love your neighbor as you love yourself, I am the Lord your G-d.”

One of my Rabbis. Rabbi Noah Weinberg taught that when you take revenge, they take revenge back and it never stops.  When you bear a grudge, it only hurts you as the other party does not even know.  Doing both of these things puts a block on your heart so you can’t love.  If you can love your neighbor as you love yourself then G-d joins into those relationships and all miracles can happen without limit. Hence the sentence ends I am the Lord your G-d.

A Historical example of the power of love

In the days of Shaul the first Jewish king, he was righteous and the Jewish people were all righteous but not victorious in battle.

In the days of King Ahab, who was an evil man, the Jewish people did not keep the commandments but were very victorious.

Why the difference?  In the days of Shaul we did not get along.  In the days of Ahab, we loved each other.

Sometimes it is as simple as that.

When we are fighting over religion and politics to the point that we hate each other there is a block on our hearts and we will be defeated.

When we put that aside and concentrate on the common bond, we all have as brothers and sisters in this world mad

In this episode of the podcast, Rabbi Dave shares his 10 ways of managing time effectively. Intrigued by this peculiar behavior, Josh engaged in a conversation with the young man, who eventually posed a thought-provoking question: What is more valuable, money or time? Devon was a high-powered lawyer for a big firm on the track to becoming a partner.  He had a great wife and kids, a huge house and a vacation home, lots of money, and lots of prestige.  Whenever his family needed him, he was always easy to find because if it was before 4 am, he was almost always in the office and the work stress was killing him.

Joe just lost his job after 35 years.  His wife and kids started to panic but not Joe.  Due to some wise advice Joe was prepared. A few years ago, Joe started a consulting business as a side hustle.  He started advising clients with histories of various health issues how to prevent expensive medical bills for their families down the road by making a few small shifts to remove toxins and poisons from their homes now.  Joe had a plan B in place and did not skip a beat as he just shifted from a side hustle to full time as his own boss.

Professional Space Work

As a professional in the space of working with nonprofit organizations that help others, I run into the following situation all too often.  The head of a nonprofit who is also quite often the founder dedicates their life to helping others but ignores their own needs and then a tragedy strikes, or an important donor decides a change is needed and the person who helped everyone else now has no one to help them.

I’ve also coached many leaders in the same space who were not founders or directors and found that although they loved helping others, as their families grew they could not afford basic life expenses on a non profit salary and when they were at the top of their game they had to leave their career and enter the for profit world in order to give their families the life style they wanted to.  Just think of all the good these superstars could have accomplished if only they had dedicated a tithe of their time (since many of these dedicated individuals work day and night let’s call it one day or 8 hours per week) to another lucrative income stream so that they could continue to do what they love and support their growing families.

Their organizations and the entire world would be a much better place if organizations did not need to start over from scratch and lose their most talented employees because they can’t afford to pay them enough.

I know paying teachers, counselors, relief workers, health professionals and clergy at the same rate as high powered business people flies in the face of the traditional business model of sales and profits; but, if we can’t fix the system and I’m not saying we shouldn’t, each of us can set up a side income for ourselves so we can continue to help make this world a better place for many years to come.

I know, you are probably saying that you can’t find one extra hour in a week let alone 8; but, if you don’t put your families needs first you will burn out especially as the bills and the debts get larger and larger!

By putting your family first, making some extra income, saving money for emergencies and maybe being able to say yes to your wife and kids sometimes you will have the peace of mind to do a better job in the hours you do your holy work.  You will also be able to continue helping others for as long as you want as a “full time” professional.

Don’t think of it as taking time away from your mission or your calling.  Think of these 8 hours as a way to be even more effective and actually as important for your mission as any other activity.  It is very important to realize it is very hard to help others if you can’t even help yourself!

You may be asking, how do I identify ways to take that time and not waste it.  I need to make sure that the path I choose succeeds and isn’t a waste of time and money.

Important question! 

The world of the rabbi who got rich on Sunday. My goal is to share my hardearned knowledge and to help people who are like I was 22 years ago when my life came to a crossroads between living my dreams and giving up on my dreams to face reality and to be rich. Sure, I’ve made some spectacular mistakes, but I’ve also had unbelievable successes along the way.
I am living what I like to call with sincere thanks to the Almighty, my dream life.

What does it mean to be rich? I have an old friend, we’ll call him Peter who comes from a very rich family. When we were young men, I remember that he picked up a date for the first time in a regular car, wearing modest clothes.

And she Was very disappointed because she knew he was rich and she expected something else. He was upset that she was all about the externals and he proceeded to drive her to the airport, buy first class tickets to a nice location for both of them, spend a day in the sun, return home at night, drop her off and then tell her that he’ll never contact her again because her priority priorities were on money, not happiness.

I’ll never forget the impact it made on me that he had his priorities straight and was headed towards a dream life. And she probably learned a valuable lesson as we get older.

As we got older, ironically, he began pursuing money S much They never had time for his old friends, and now I only read about him in the news. And that’s not usually such a good thing.

So if you have all the money in the world and all the things that can buy, but you’re not happy, you’re not able to enjoy it.

Are you really be rich?

There’s a lesson in the Torah from a book called The Ethics of Our Fathers to be rich.

In chapter 4, the first item, it says Benzoma makes several points #1 who’s wise?

One who learns from every human, who is mighty, one who controls their inclination, who is rich, one who rejoices in what they have and who is honored?
One who honors their fellow human beings.

Money is great, and I’m all for material abundance.

But rejoicing All in all your blessings, including our fellow human beings and all of the wonders of this world, will really lead to true happiness.

One of my mentors, Rabbi Noak Weinberg, a blessed memory, used to ask his students, would you rather be rich or happy?

Invariably they would answer happy.

He would then ask them to study with him for six weeks and learn the secrets of happiness from the Torah.

They would say they can’t because of this or that commitment they had.

He would say, that’s such a shame because, you know, since so many people are unhappy, the government gave us a grant to give people $10,000 to take this course.

All of a sudden they’d say, did I say I couldn’t stay?

I was wrong, I can definitely stay.

Rabbi Weinberg would then say, I thought you said you’d rather be happy than rich.

But when I offered to teach you to be happy, you couldn’t accept.

And when I offered money, money, suddenly you could.

So now that you admit that it was not that you can’t, it’s just that you didn’t want to.
Now Are you ready to learn to be happy?

That is the goal of these podcasts.

Over many years, Jon has spent a small fortune on training and tools and an enormous amount of time but has not gotten anywhere close to achieving his goals. 

When Jon shares his concerns with his supervisor or support team, they tell him “just keep going”, that success is around the corner, and that everything is in place with the company for him to succeed as long as he works harder and smarter. 

Jon believes them but finds himself getting more and more depressed with each passing day. 

One day, a very different kind of mentor comes into his life. He tells him “Jon, did you ever think that perhaps you are doing everything right, that you have the right skills, but that the problem isn’t you?” 

That’s when the light bulb goes on in Jon’s head.
